Readers' Favorite ★★★★★ Review:
"Impossible to put down, a joy to read [and] a marvelous tale."

Description: Rebecca Lockhart moved to Vancouver to start a new life. What she found felt more like the end.

Raised with Victorian values and classically trained as a pianist, seventeen-year-old Rebecca takes solace in the prose of Jane Austen and the music of Debussy. But when a virtuoso guitar player exposes her to the free spirit of rock and roll, Rebecca's outlook on the world begins to change. She dares to take risks her old self couldn't imagine.

Hallway rumors of her new behavior reach the high school office, and Rebecca comes face-to-face with the vice-principal - Catherine Lockhart, her mother. Desperate to remain in mom's good graces, she lies. Before she can blink, Rebecca is caught in a web of deceit that envelopes her entire life. If she reveals the truth, she and her mother will have to face an unspeakable secret from their past. If she doesn't, a fellow student could be sentenced to prison.

Only the Good Die Young is a coming-of-age story for the teenager in all of us, laced with the dry, deadpan humor of a shy girl struggling to find her way.

The Hangman's Replacement: Sprout of Disruption by Taona Dumisani Chiveneko (Chiveneko Publishing Inc.)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Taona (publisher): I am the publisher of the book and would like to expand its readership by building a solid base of reviews, especially as a run-up to the sequel which is due in the next few months.

Description: SYNOPSIS

Zimbabwe’s last hangman retired in 2004. As the nation drifted towards abolition, no determined effort was launched to find a replacement. However, the discovery of carnivorous flame lilies at the Great Zimbabwe monument triggered a spirited search for a new executioner. Those who know why this discovery energized the recruitment effort refused to talk. The frantic attempts to find a new hangman were impeded by the lack of suitable candidates. Well-placed sources confirmed that the fear of ngozi was a deterrent.

According to this traditional belief, the spirit of a murdered person torments the killer and his family for generations. However, this is only half the story. Several promising applicants did come forward. None met the minimum requirements for the job. The selection criteria were designed to exclude the mentally ill, the vindictive, and the sadistic. However, they did not rule out the desperate.

The Sprout of Disruption (Book 1) introduces the universe of characters whose lives have been set alight by the plant which sparked the recruitment effort. It tells the story of the aspiring hangman who was obsessed with securing the job, the sympathizers who fought to protect him from his prize, and the anxious men who believed that emptying death row would end their horror before the meat-eating plants constricted around their necks.

Seventh Dimension - The King, A Young Adult Fantasy by Lorilyn Roberts (Roberts Court Reporters)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by llwroberts (author): I am the author and I am hoping some readers here might be willing to help me out with some reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.

Although this is the second book in the Seventh Dimension Series, you do not need to have read the first book in the series, "The Door." It's hard to categorize "The King" neatly into one genre. Perhaps "visionary" would be best. "The King" has elements of history, fantasy, Christianity, Judaism, and the future. The beginning of the book starts in the year 2015.

So far, I have two reviews on Amazon with five stars. The first book in the series, "The Door," has 52 reviews with 4.6 stars. "The Door" was a multiple award winner in the following contests:

2013 International Book Awards Finalist
2013 Grace Awards Finalist
2013 Selah Awards Finalist
2013 Readers' Favorite Finalist

I can provide a copy to be read as a .pdf, Mobi (Kindle), or .epub (Nook). Content is written for ages 12 through 19, though older adults would enjoy it as well.

Description: After a series of devastating events, a gifted seventeen-year-old Israeli boy becomes the focus of a wager between good and evil. Marked by one, he travels to first century Israel and meets a doctor who becomes his mentor.

When he unwittingly makes a pact with the devil and the girl he loves is betrothed to another, his life takes a different course - until his eyes are opened. Could the sufferings of his people for thousands of years be linked to a rabbi who claims to be the Messiah? Trapped in the seventh dimension, how far will God go to save him?

The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova (Back Bay Books)

Offered by RoeschLeisure: Discarded paperback in good condition.

Description: Andrew Marlow, a psychiatrist, has a perfectly ordered life—solitary, perhaps, but full of devotion to his profession and the painting hobby he loves. This order is destroyed when the renowned painter Robert Oliver attacks a canvas in the National Gallery of Art and becomes Marlow's patient.

When Oliver refuses to talk or cooperate, Marlow finds himself going beyond his own legal and ethical boundaries to understand the secret that torments this silent genius, a journey that will lead him into the lives of the women closest to Robert Oliver and toward a tragedy at the heart of French Impressionism.

Moving from American museums to the coast of Normandy, from the late nineteenth century to the late twentieth, from young love to last love, THE SWAN THIEVES is a story of obsession, the losses of history, and the power of art to preserve human hope.

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AmandaKerr (publisher): We are offering 10 pdf copies of the Humorous Sports novel, Slammin'. The author hopes to get more reviews for his book.

Description: SLAMMIN’ takes place in a different 2011. Fifty-three year-old tennis pro and family man, Wally Wilson is happily teaching Silicon Valley’s millionaires and billionaires at the double-wide estate of his temptress and benefactor, 17 year-old Ashley Margincall. But when Wally’s serve speed spikes and unidentified government agents appear, he begins a pro tennis odyssey that might lead him to the U.S. Open or the twisted nexus of a Grand Slam conspiracy. Strangely blessed, but always behind the curve, Wally realizes he’s been given all the power, but none of the control.

Recent Praise for Slammin’:

“Marcus Cootsona hits a clean winner with Slammin’.” – Jon Wertheim, Sports Illustrated.

“Slammin’ has the sort of wacky charm that keeps a reader following Wally’s excellent adventure as the plot, like the pro circuit, curves around like a snake eating its own tail.” – Michael Mewshaw, Inside Tennis.

“The world constructed by Cootsona feels very alive, and even in the face of the most bizarre dangers of the book a laugh can somehow be found.” – Self-Publishing Review.

The Hangman's Replacement: Sprout of Disruption by Taona Dumisani Chiveneko (Chiveneko Publishing Inc.)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Taona (publisher): As the publisher, I am conducting this giveaway to grow the book's review base.

KIRKUS REVIEW EXTRACT

"At nearly 500 pages, this intricately woven novel is a disconcerting parable exploded to epic proportions. The author renders its many characters, from the mad genius responsible for the impending botanical apocalypse, to the prostitute/undercover operative who falls in love with Abel, to the seemingly simple Abel himself, with frightening subtlety and detail.... A thought-provoking, singularly strange and absorbing novel."

INDIEREADER REVIEW EXTRACT

“This is a work of completely bizarre genius. The author has an almost Wodehousian gift with words, decorating his pages with phrases that can make the reader laugh out loud, question long-held assumptions about reality, or send a chill up the spine with just a few deft descriptive touches. Some of the characters, and the situations they find themselves in, can be completely off-the-wall, but the author’s writing ability carefully makes them almost plausible, even natural." “This is a delightful book for those who enjoy having their perspectives stretched, who take delight in the weird and idiosyncratic, and who love watching a master author do breathtaking juggling acts with the English language."

Meditation for Beginners: Learn How to Meditate for More Focus, Less Stress and Better Health by Sherri Stockman (Speedy Publishing LLC)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Colin.Scott (publisher): Let us know what you think of this book. Please leave us a review.

Description: This beginner's meditation handbook may be small, but it's mighty. Easy to read, and simple to put into action. In it, you'll learn how to use meditation to say goodbye to chronic stress, because chronic stress is NOT your friend.

Maybe you already knew that meditation is great for stress reduction, but there are so many options when it comes to meditating. Do you really have the time to wade through a big, scholarly, esoteric manual to figure out how to get the help you need?

I didn't think so.

Meditation for Beginners narrows it down and offers just enough suggestions so that you can easily decide what works best for YOU. What it is, where and how to do it, ways to enhance your experience... it's all in here.

There's even a free meditation audio you can use for your daily practice.

I believe the mental and emotional balance you can get when you learn how to meditate is our natural state, how we're meant to be as humans. Finding this balance leads to increased focus and concentration skills, improved productivity, and an upgrade in your overall physical, mental, and emotional health.

And FYI - Just because meditation gets serious results doesn't mean it can't be approached with a light heart. *Tongue in cheek commentary included at no extra charge.*

Astrology and Astronomy: Cosmic Cousins by John Philip Hunter (Speedy Publishing LLC)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Colin.Scott (publisher): Let us know what you think of this book. Please leave us a review.

Description: Astrology and Astronomy have been closely related ever since ancient times. Studying the stars and deciphering their language held a great importance for many ancient civilizations, as early as in Ancient Greek times. And as the famous late astrologer Dane Rudhyar once put it "astrology is a language. If you understand this language, the sky speaks to you." The purpose of this book is twofold: first, it seeks to bring about a correlation of information about astrology and astronomy. The two disciplines carry numerous similarities and, quite interestingly, used to be considered as one a long time ago. The book explores the similarities and differences between the approaches of astrology and astronomy on studying the sky and the stars, offering a better understanding and greater clarity to star enthusiasts. Second, it goes into different methods of astrology used today - the Western, Chinese and Indian-Vedic methods - as well as that used by Native Americans, offering the reader the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the similarities and differences among each of those methods. An added bonus, there's a chapter devoted to tips and advice on how best to use the book and how to choose which zodiac chart to use based on the reader's interests and goals. For some fun, there's also a chapter on the U.S. presidents and their personality characteristics that, with amazing accuracy, match their astrological charts. John Philip Hunter's Astrology and Astronomy: Cosmic Cousins is a pleasant mixture of fun, scientific facts and useful methods for a better understanding of one's self and place in the cosmos.

That and the self proclaimed stowaway was about to make the rest of the year very different as, armed with nothing more dangerous than a windlass and a box of Soviet made watches, the crew of the Mayfly set about doing their bit in preserving the inland waterway network before it was too late. In their travels they meet a number of unlikely allies, discover skills they didn't think they had, and, as the job of fugitive requires, are chased by some decidedly undesirable people.

The Reincarnation Of Columbus: A True Epic Voyage To The New World Of Empowerment! by Kevin O'Grady (Overcoming)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Colin.Scott (publisher): Let us know what you think of this book. Please leave us a review.

Description: Ryan Columbus O'Grady was found dead in his crib when he was four months old. There was no sound, no struggle. A postmortem failed to show an adequate cause of death. This book is an account of the profound effects his death had on the author's life, telling in graphic detail the results of buried emotion on family, friends and business relationships. It is a painful and sometimes desperate story of his struggle to move out of mediocrity into a life deeply searching for soul purpose. It is about a father's pain, a father's deep, core wound. It is a man's struggle, because he has documented in this book the ruinous effect this old male approach to grief had on his life, and in doing so, hopes it goes some way to healing the malaise, the mediocrity, the buried pain, the unforgiven, the unsaid, the hidden hurt in fathers, mothers and all those left behind after the death of a loved one. If you have been touched by grief, sadness, suicide, depression, loss or abandonment, this book may help you make sense of life and death. It may help you find who you are and why you are here! Join the author in this epic voyage from the pain and sorrow of a father's grief, to the new world of forgiveness, empowerment and love.

The Layman's Guide to The Glycemic Index Diet: A Concise Guide To The GI Diet by Lisa Patrick (Weight A Bit)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Colin.Scott (publisher): Let us know what you think of this book. Please leave us a review.

Description: "The Layman's Guide to The Glycemic Index Diet" helps the reader to get a more than basic understanding of what it takes to learn how to eat the right combination of foods to remain in optimal health and not to consume too many carbohydrates or increase the levels of blood sugar. There are quite a number of diets out there that are gaining popularity with what they are purported to do. What ends up happening however, is that after a while the individual that opts to do one of those fad diets finds out that the diet is only a temporary fix to the problem that they have. The one thing that has worked consistently is to learn how to modify the diet and have the right combinations of foods at each meal. This will help keep the carbohydrates consumed in check and the sugars as well. That is what the Glycemic diet is all about; learning control by watching the numbers.

What Jamie Saw by Carolyn Coman (Front Street)

Offered by RoeschLeisure: Discarded hardback in good condition. Newberry Honor Book.

Description: Reveals the impact of witnessing violence even as it affirms the luminous power of love. Jamie’s mother is there to catch the baby —this time. She does what she must to keep her family out of harm’s way, but still the shock waves of Van’s act reverberate through their lives. What Jamie Saw is a moving, visceral dramatization of violence in the home, told not from the point of view of a victim, but as witnessed by a nine-year-old boy. The impact of observed violence perpetrated against loved ones is profound and destructive, and altogether too common. Drawing on his mother’s desperate strength, his own determination, and help from an unexpected friend, Jamie confronts his fear and anxiety — learning, adapting, and triumphing.

Solomon the Peacemaker by Hunter Welles (Cowcatcher Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Cowcatcher.Press (publisher): Enter to win Hunter Welles's incredible debut novel, Solomon the Peacemaker.

Description: "Solomon the Peacemaker was one of the most devastating, beautiful things I've read all year. It is a masterful debut novel. I absolutely loved it." – Book Puke

"The author deftly weaves in philosophy, religion and our fears of technology without sacrificing his story." – St. Paul Pioneer Press

Vincent Alan Chell is coy about answering the questions of his captor. He’d much rather talk about his dead wife, Yael, whose suicide somehow led him into captivity. Or Preacher, the bearded leader of a cult-like group that meets in the bowels of a church basement. Or the Peacemaker, the computer intelligence that has guaranteed peace between nations for half a century.

Chell describes a world where cultural norms have changed the way people interact with technology. Humanoid robots, though ubiquitous, are confined inside private homes, giving the impression that all is well with the world. Which may be the case. Yet Preacher and his group are convinced that humankind is already in the thrall of the Peacemaker. And they might be right.

Solomon the Peacemaker, Hunter Welles’s debut novel, explores the limits of technology, nonviolence, love, and memory in the twenty-second century as it races to its incredible conclusion.

Others can have a happy life and go to heaven if they know more about this. My book is a guide to heaven and God.

Description: Angels have been speaking to me since I was eleven years old and I have been writing down notes of what happened and what they said. The angels mentioned in the book asked me to write down all that happened and get it to as many people as possible for their saving grace. This is an audiobook.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by jachmd (author): I am thrilled to have turned my fiction into an audiobook with an awesome narrator. I'd like to share copies with other audiobook listeners, stir up some interest and earn honest reviews!

Description: Pertinent to current life and trends in medicine, this fiction is about a possible HIV cure. An obstetrician adopts a baby with HIV and seeks to cure the infant through a stem cell donation from an individual lacking the CCR5 receptor. This individual is the obstetrician's brother, a gay man who lost his partner to HIV while he remained unaffected.
Exploring highly charged, emotional terrain without names or labels, the story precludes the blame and judgment so often associated with issues like this and instead puts laser focus on this transformative human journey to stunning effect.

Una flotta in potenza. Le navi da guerra austro-ungariche della Prima guerra mondiale by Russell Phillips (Shilka Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by phillipsrussell (author): Disponibile in formato PDF, EPUB e MOBI/Kindle.

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by phillipsrussell (author): Sono disponibili i formati PDF, EPUB e MOBI/Kindle. Se fosse possibile, gradirei ricevere una recensione. La più utile sarebbe una recensione su Amazon, ma apprezzerei molto una recensione su qualsiasi piattaforma.

Description: “Fu una questione dannatamente combattuta”

Description: Ivory Shepard didn't want to be a pirate when she grew up but she didn't plan on being orphaned and alone at thirteen with her three cousins either.

After a Spanish raid in Charles Towne left them with nothing, Ivory held her cousins together, trained them to fight for their lives and led them to a life of quiet refuge on the banks of the Ashley River. Out of reach of the hands of unscrupulous men, they found life on the farm a tolerable substitute for the traditional alternatives life would force onto them—until the night the pirates showed up.

Setting foot on that first pirate ship was nothing compared to the life of freedom and adventure awaiting them, once Ivory and the girls were through playing nice. Only one man believes he can stop her and he won't need a ship full of guns to do it.

Description: When Evil comes knocking do you dare answer?

There's a little evil in all of us — that part of the human soul that doesn't care if God is watching. It starts with a faint tap. Ignore it. If you’re lucky it will go away. Daniel Haley isn't one of the lucky ones. Evil kicks the door down and makes itself at home.

While cleaning the attic, Daniel finds a box labeled “Dark Stuff.” Hidden beneath the dust and cobwebs are relics of childhood scares — books about vampires and werewolves, slasher movies that kids shouldn't watch. The thing that stands out is a spirit board which contributed to the scariest night of Daniel's teen years.

Looking back, Daniel can't help but laugh. He no longer believes in the supernatural. Ghosts are just products of wild teenage imagination. Daniel decides to inject a little fear into the stale relationship with his girlfriend Jess by scaring her with the harmless toy.

But you never know what will happen when you play with The Dark Stuff.

The Monster on Top of the Bed by Alan H. Jordan (Jordan Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AlanHJordan (author): Reviews are most appreciated.

I am the author and publisher. Available in .mobi, .epub and .pdf. Please specify your choice. You will receive a download link that will be active for seven days.

I'm giving it away for three reasons: (1) To stimulate reviews, particularly on Amazon.com, and (2) Because I'm very proud of this book and want to see many people enjoy it; and (3) It's possible that some people who receive this giveaway will buy a copy of the companion book, My Monster on Top of the Bed which features the same artwork, but only background words (sound effects, etc.) and a cover where the child can put down their name as author. As the child goes through the illustrations, they write a story.

Upon request, I'll also provide an .mp4 file that plays the CD version of the book (slight changes in some wording--children enjoy discovering the differences) in English, Spanish and Italian. To get this, go to http://www.MonBed.com and sign up for the newsletter.

Description: Ages: 3-8

However, children from 8-12 enjoy the story, and some tweens and teenagers delight in reading it to younger siblings.

"Blimp, blop, blimp, bloop. Suzy gripped her sheets tightly. Was that noise coming from under her bed?"
Helps Children Banish Bedtime Fears
So begins Suzy's adventure where she meets Karrit, another child, and one that lives far under her bed. The two children banish their bedtime fears and become best friends by treating each other the way that they want to be treated.
A Fear of Monsters is Common
A fear of monsters under the bed is common with children of all ages, starting with a vague sense of the unknown with younger toddlers and graduating to perhaps a more solid image in the minds of older children.

The Monster on Top of the Bed flips the idea around, like the famous Disney Movie Monsters Inc., and bases the story on the concept that it’s the monsters that are actually afraid of the children.
The Children Model The Golden Rule
In this beautifully illustrated book we meet two children—Suzy and Karrit, and we discover that sometimes things are not always what they seem and when the monster fears the child, we come to see a different perspective on misunderstandings and ignorance.

We also discover that it is easy to misinterpret the meanings of words and actions, when Karrit explains to Suzy that certain things she says and does, frightens him.

Although the words, "The Golden Rule" never appear in the book, the way the two children treat each other as though they would like to be treated enable the two of them to work together to work out their differences. A friendship forms, and a new light is shed upon them both when they realize that maybe they aren’t so different from each other after all.

A Mantra that Banishes Nighttime Fears
When things get scary, both children use Grandmom's mantra, which is highly effective in banishing monsters, "“You’re welcome to stay until I say, ‘Nay!’ Then it’s time to go, and you can’t say, 'no.'”

This is an empowering bedtime story. There are slight differences between the words in CD version and the Kindle version. Children like the challenge of finding the differences.

...
It's perfect for three to six-year olds, and six-to-twelve year olds (who are sometimes still afraid of monsters) find the story charming and enjoy reading it to their younger siblings.

Offered by AnthonyJMelchiorri (author): I'm giving away 100 copies of the ebook in exchange for honest reviews, preferably on Amazon, Goodreads, and LibraryThing.

Description: In 2094, stealing a person’s identity is virtually impossible when every medical record, government document, and bank account is tied to their DNA via a personal Chip. Implanted beneath the skin, this microscopic device also augments people’s real world senses with a network of information, sending data and communications directly to the AR lenses in their eyes or the receivers in their ears. Nick, a former Army Specialist, is about to find out what happens when that vital connection is severed.

Venturing into an underground rave in an abandoned Estonian prison, Nick is encouraged to live life naturally, untethered by technology. But all is not as it seems. Nick is abducted and cut off from the rest of the world, including his fiancée. He unwittingly becomes embroiled in a biotechnological nightmare and embarks on a dangerous adventure to return home. The only person that might be able to help him is a man Nick never knew existed—his clone.

The Cathar Secret by Gregg Loomis (Turner Publishing)

Offered by TurnerPub (publisher): Turner Publishing is offering an advance look into The Cathar Secret, the latest Lang Reilly thriller from Gregg Loomis, author of The Pegasus Secret.

Description: In the secret archives of the Vatican, an ancient Tibetan document has remained hidden to everyone but the highest authorities in the Catholic Church. Those authorities had long ago disposed of the Cathars, the religious sect who’d once attempted to spread the document’s heresies of reincarnation. Centuries later, a young boy’s bizarre flashbacks as an Auschwitz prisoner threaten to prove the document’s theory of reincarnation, shattering the faith of millions around the world. The Church will go to any lengths to protect the scrolls’ contents and stop the boy, Wynn-Three, from spreading its heresies. But someone else has beaten them to it with an agenda of their own: the boy’s flashbacks may help reveal a long-lost treasure, stashed by the Nazis for safekeeping. Kidnapping Wynn-Three, these criminals take him to the snowy slopes of Germany and Austria in hopes he will lead them to the loot. And ex-CIA agent Lang Reilly may be the only one who can track down his young neighbor, Wynn-Three. With criminals hot on his trail, Reilly races across Europe to rescue the boy. But if he can’t pull the missing pieces together and uncover the missing document, Wynn-Three—and the Church’s reputation—may both be lost to history. A fast-paced, intriguing thriller, The Cathar Secret enraptures from the controversial beginning until the shocking conclusion.

The Quotable Stoic: A Book of Original Aphorisms by Michael Lipsey (Lost Coast Press)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by CypressH (publisher): Lost Coast Press is an imprint of Cypress House, we are the publishers and would love to receive reader reviews for this delightful new title we have just released.

Description: An aphorism is a statement of truth condensed into few words that express much. “Concise, clever, often paradoxical,” says Webster’s Dictionary. In the ancient world, the first aphorisms were inscriptions in verse, carved into the stone of tombs, statues, temples, and triumphal arches. With the advent of paper, they evolved into brief morsels of insight, often witty or satirical.

The Quotable Stoic is a new distillation of wisdom in the classic tradition of Mark Twain, H. L. Mencken, Epictetus, Samuel Johnson, and la Rochefoucauld. If you love aphorisms, you’ll be delighted by the original mind reflected here. If you enjoy seeing things from a different angle and like to examine life’s larger questions, then this is the perfect book for you.

South of Sixty by Michael Warr (antarcticmemoriespublishing)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by michaelwarr: author and publisher. Wider distribution.

Description: Living in the Antarctic in the 1960s was not for the faint of heart. The few men on each base lived in small wooden huts, heated by coal stoves. Water was from melted snow blocks, and travel over the frozen terrain was with husky dog teams.
The men made their own entertainment. They had to get on with each other, as they were isolated for eight months at a time until the relief ship could get through the sea ice. The experience left an indelible memory on all who lived in the Antarctic.
South of Sixty describes this life, and contrasts it with the changes in present-day Antarctica.

Description: What happens when you get the life you aim for and it hurts like hell?

The Johns family is unraveling. Hollis, a retired Ohio banker, isolates himself in esoteric hobbies and a dangerous flirtation with a colleague’s daughter. Susan, his wife of forty years, risks everything for a second chance at who she might have become. David, their eldest, thrashes to stay afloat as his teaching career capsizes in a storm of accusations involving a missing student and the legacy of Christopher Columbus. And young Tilly, the black sheep, having traded literary promise for an improbable career as a Hollywood starlet, struggles to define herself amid salacious scandal, the demands of a powerful director, and the judgments of an uncompromising writer.

By turns comical and poignant, the Johns family is tumbling toward the discovery that sometimes you have to let go of your identity to find out who you are.

"[A] cerebral page turner…a powerful and promising debut."—Kirkus Reviews

"In its structure and nature, [The Lion Trees] reminds me above all of John Updike’s wonderful Harry Rabbit novels and their ability to summarize the essence of change in American society across a decade at a time.” - BookIdeas.com

"[Five Stars] — [A] powerful, gripping and realistic story…The Lion Trees does what so very few great novels can: it will take a lot out of you, but leave you with much more than you had when you began.”—Pacific Book Reviews

c3 by Sherrie Cronin (Cinnabar Press)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by SherrieCronin (author): c3, a new metaphysical fantasy about out-of-body experiences, is a book about an important topic aimed at mature fantasy lovers of all ages. I attempted not to gloss over the difficult subject matter of human trafficking, and yet to produce a story appropriate for those as young as sixteen. c3 is part of 46 Ascending, a collection of loosely interrelated novels about five very different family members who each discover that they can do the extraordinary when circumstances require it. These books are designed to be read as stand alone stories or in any order. Each book explores a facet of magical realism, as its down-to-earth hero comes to understand the powers that he or she holds within.

Description: Teddie likes her country music and her old pick-up truck and she's not sure how she let her best friend talk her into spending a semester abroad in Darjeeling India. Once she arrives, her innocence collides with an underworld in which young women are bartered and sold. As she fights to understand a depravity that she never dreamed existed, Teddie finds that her own mind develops a unique ability for locating her friends and that an ancient group is willing to train her to save others by using her innate skills for out of body experiences. It will require trust in ideas she barely believes, and more courage than has ever been expected of her. When it becomes clear that the alternative may be her friends' deaths and the unchecked growth of an evil crime lord's empire, Teddie accepts the challenge and shows those guilty of unspeakable crimes just how powerful a young woman can be.

emergency cesarean section on an HIV-positive woman. The baby,
born with the disease, soon becomes an orphan when her mother dies,
leaving no other family to care for the newborn female.
Suffering from infertility and undiagnosed depression, the ob-gyn
decides to adopt the baby and enlists a lawyer specializing in
adoption for non-traditional families. Desperate, driven, and with the
help of her hospital community, she fosters the infant and names her
Hope.
The ob-gyn’s brother, who recently lost his partner to HIV, moves
in to welcome the new baby home and assist in caring for her. Hope
becomes sick, giving her new mother and uncle what seems to be an
insurmountable obstacle. With not much to go on but the slimmest of
chances, the brother and sister move ever forward, determined to see
that the newest addition to their family lives. In so doing, they open up
a healing process that just may save their own lives as well.

raining frogs and heart attacks by Frank Crimi (Tate)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by FMC2 (author): I am the author of raining frogs & heart attacks and am hoping to share my book with other Library thing readers

Description: I’m sure that when a person descends into madness, it comes along gradually and doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t seem reasonable to think you go to bed — faculties intact — and then find yourself the next morning in your underwear, standing in front of your house, yelling at the mailbox.
I’m not certain when the actual moment of my own descent occurred, the point at which I lost all semblance of my true identity, but it may have started around the time I lost my job. Prior to that moment, I was a sharp guy wearing a suit and tie who got up early each morning to wage the corporate battle. The next thing I knew, I sat clad in a stained bathrobe, clipping coupons at my kitchen table.
When Frank Crimi lost his job after years in the corporate world, he also lost himself. After a time of uncertainty and a bit of fumbling, he decided to fulfill his lifelong goal: become a writer.
A collection of honest, hilarious, and emotional stories, Raining Frogs and Heart Attacks will draw you in and consistently entertain you as Frank chronicles his quest to change his life at midstream and achieve his dream. You’ll laugh at the unexpected twists and turns in Frank’s journey and discover what unexpected pleasures can arise when you follow your dreams — even later in life.
As you read through the collection of essays, both humorous and uplifting, you are sure to learn to see the beauty and whimsy in everyday life.

The Daughter of the Sea and the Sky by David Litwack (Evolved Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by dlitwack (author): Award winning author David Litwack is offered ebooks for review. Winners will receive a Kindle gift copy

Description: After centuries of religiously motivated war, the world has been split in two. Now the Blessed Lands are ruled by pure faith, while in the Republic, reason is the guiding light—two different realms, kept apart and at peace by a treaty and an ocean.

Children of the Republic, Helena and Jason were inseparable in their youth, until fate sent them down different paths. Grief and duty sidetracked Helena’s plans, and Jason came to detest the hollowness of his ambitions.

These two damaged souls are reunited when a tiny boat from the Blessed Lands crashes onto the rocks near Helena’s home after an impossible journey across the forbidden ocean. On board is a single passenger, a nine-year-old girl named Kailani, who calls herself “the Daughter of the Sea and the Sky.” A new and perilous purpose binds Jason and Helena together again, as they vow to protect the lost innocent from the wrath of the authorities, no matter the risk to their future and freedom.

But is the mysterious child simply a troubled little girl longing to return home? Or is she a powerful prophet sent to unravel the fabric of a godless Republic, as the outlaw leader of an illegal religious sect would have them believe? Whatever the answer, it will change them all forever… and perhaps their world as well.

Everyone wants to realize his/her true potential in life, but few figure out how to bring this dream to fruition. The question you need to ask yourself is, “Could I improve myself if deep down I believed that the goal was impossible?” Years of scientific research suggests that the answer to the above question is, “No.” It is a well-known fact within the scientific community that inaccurate beliefs can greatly hinder personal growth. What is surprising is that Stanford University professor and eminent researcher Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. along with her colleagues discovered that most people in the US (and probably in other Western cultures as well) have inaccurate beliefs about their true potential. Most people believe that they are endowed with unchanging skill sets, behaviors, level of intelligence, etc. Such beliefs typically cause people to perform poorly and to be generally less successful in life overall. The good news is that these same researchers also discovered that inaccurate beliefs about human potential can be rectified, and that performance can drastically improve as a direct result. In this text, author and engineer David Lowell and Licensed Medical Technician Gertrud Lola present a 5-step program to accomplish exactly that. The program is based on similar programs implemented by Dweck, et al. in numerous studies that helped so many participants to become successful. Note: the program is not only for people that are struggling in life, but also for people that are already successful, but want to take it to the next level. You will learn 1) why accurate beliefs are critical to realizing your true potential; 2) why you and so many other people have inaccurate beliefs about human potential; 3) how these inaccurate beliefs have been conclusively disproven by modern science; 4) the best strategies for personal growth; and 5) how to put together a personal plan to realize your own true potential. *Includes a tribute to Professor Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. & her colleagues for their recent discoveries regarding human development. Note: the material presented in this text does not carry their endorsement.

Polly and the One and Only World by Don Bredes (Green Writers Press)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by WileySaichek: Publicist for Don Bredes. SaichekPublicity@gmail.com

Description: Set in a much-diminished America called the Christian Protectorates, a poor country ravaged by coastal flooding, drought, and catastrophic social upheaval, the novel features 15-year-old Polly Lightfoot, a maiden witch of deep heritage and tender ability in the craft. When her identity is exposed, Polly is forced to flee New Florida, where she has taken refuge from a military purge of the country's infidels, pagans, and followers of false creeds. With the help of her steadfast familiar, a raven named Balthazar, and her brave teenage companion, Leon, Polly undertakes a harrowing journey from the troubled south to the wild north to rejoin her people in Vermont and save her ancient craft from obliteration.

Polly and the One and Only World presents a frighteningly vivid depiction of our stricken land in the stifling grip of fundamentalists and suffering the grim consequences of climate calamity. Yet the story's dire vision will inspire readers of every age to appreciate their own freedom and their capacity, today, to work for positive social and political change.

Offered by keelykeith (author): This is my debut novel and I'm new to LibraryThing, so I thought I'd join the party with a giveaway! The Land Uncharted is written like a historical, set like a scifi, and includes a (clean) romance.

Description: Lydia Colburn is a young physician dedicated to serving her village in the Land. Day and night, she rushes by horseback to treat the ill and injured, establishing a heroic reputation as the village’s new doctor.

Naval Aviator Connor Bradshaw is flying over the South Atlantic Ocean on a mission to secure any remaining sources of fresh water in a 2025 world torn apart by war. A malfunction activates his aircraft’s ejection system, parachuting his unconscious body to the shore of a hidden land.

Lydia risks her safety to help the injured outsider despite the shock of his mysterious arrival and the disastrous implications his presence could have for her peaceful society, which has gone undetected for seven generations.

Connor searches for a way to return to his squadron, but his fascination with life in the Land makes him protective of Lydia and her peaceful homeland. And while Lydia’s attraction to Connor stirs desires she never anticipated, it also pushes an unwanted admirer to stage a dangerous attempt to win her affection.

As Connor tries to keep the Land off the radar, he learns the biggest threat to Lydia lurks in her village. But when Lydia’s greatest passion and darkest fear collide, will she look to the past or the future to find the strength to survive?

The Chosen by Annette Gisby (Smashwords)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by agisby (author): I'm offering a giveaway in the hope of getting reviews, but I don't want to pressure readers thinking they have to review. Review it if you want to, but if you'd just prefer to read without reviewing, that's good too :)

Description: Male/Male Romance

The neighbouring kingdoms of Oscia and Arcathia have been at a tentative peace for three years after centuries of warfare. Prince Severin of Arcathia has been brought up to put duty before all else and as the only son of the King and Queen, it is his duty to marry and produce an heir. His parents want him to marry an Oscian princess to cement that tentative peace. Unfortunately Severin isn't interested in princesses. Now, if he had his pick of princes that would be another matter.

Havyn has been a slave all his life. When his aptitude for wizardry is discovered, he finds himself purchased and freed by Prince Severin and apprenticed to the royal wizard, Ildar. His duty is to stay chaste to keep his powers strong, but his feelings for Severin sorely test his resolve.

With kingdoms at war, the throne hanging in the balance, magic in the air, and outside forces trying to keep them apart, can the two men find happiness together, or is duty more important than love?

Aquarius Rising: In the Tears of God by Brian Burt (Double Dragon Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by btburt (author): I'm giving away 10 eBook copies of my debut novel to celebrate its being named the winner of the 2014 EPIC eBook Award for Science Fiction. Description: On an Earth ravaged by climate change, and a disastrous attempt to reverse it, human-dolphin hybrids called Aquarians have built thriving reef colonies among the drowned cities of the coast. Now their world is under siege from an enemy above the waves whose invisible weapon leaves no survivors. Ocypode of Tillamook is an Atavism: half-human and half-Aquarian, marooned in the genetic limbo between species. Only he knows why the colonies north and south of Tillamook Reef have been destroyed, literally turned to stone. Ocypode knows that Tillamook will be targeted next, but sharing the reason might prove as deadly to Aquarius as the Medusa plague itself.

Ocypode and his Aquarian and human comrades flee into the open ocean to escape Medusa, until another Aquarian’s treachery leaves them at the mercy of a killer storm. Ocypode must pass through the Electric Forest, where he faces nightmarish creatures and a legendary sea witch who becomes an ally. Finally, he must confront the cyber-ghost of the human he most despises: Peter Cydon, the Great Father who bioengineered the mutagenic virus that gave birth to the Aquarian species. These unlikely allies provide the only chance to stop the Redeemers, rogue scientists who are determined to resurrect the land by slaughtering the sea. Even these allies will not be enough, and Ocypode must decide whom to trust with a secret as lethal as any plague.

DINNER INVITATION by Henry Sullivan (Henry L. Sullivan III)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by henrys708 (author): Thanks to everyone who read and reviewed SWEPT AWAY, episode one of THE AMERICAN FATHERS. I know you will enjoy DINNER INVITATION. This sequel to episode one is full of interesting twists in Sheila's relationship with Jasira. And on top of all that, you meet Irene.

Description: Hung over from their first weekend together, Sheila is delivered a mysterious invitation to join Jasira for dinner.

DINNER INVITATION is episode two of THE AMERICAN FATHERS. It opens with Sheila wondering why Jasira is going to New York instead of DC, a worry which is exacerbated by Jarira's mention of 'a friend' named Irene who is helping her with an assignment.

This episode is important for several reasons.

First, it furthers Sheila's relationship with Jasira. They've only just met, and they've only spent one weekend together. So there's still a lot they don't know about one another.

Second, Sheila has questions about how she met Jasira in the first place. It's clear to her that their meeting was planned, but she wants to know the circumstances. Who set it up? Rima, or Jasira? How long did they plan this? Sheila goes to Rima with these questions and also confronts her on comments that were made at the dinner at Rima's house on Friday night.

Third, this is the first time readers of the series will meet Irene Daco, which means this is also your introduction to the point one percent world of THE AMERICAN FATHERS. This world is different from anything Sheila could imagine. I'm confident readers of the series will find it quite interesting.

Space City 6: Houston Stories from the Weird to the Wonderful by Greenleaf, Leventhal, Maguire, Rothberg, Shaughnessy Broughton (Black Mare Books)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by castlemaguire (publisher): Space City 6 is the debut anthology from the Space City Scribes, a Houston-based independent writers' group. We have gathered together a weird and wonderful connection of stories in different genres (from the historical to the hysterical) with a Houston flair. We are seeking reviews pending the official launch on November 8, 2014.

Description: Space City 6 is a collection of short stories from the weird to the wonderful, all with a Houston flair. We begin with the birth of Houston in a mosquito—and alligator-people—infested swamp where a mermaid is intent on stopping human encroachment. Fast forward to the 1940s where we join a soldier and his new bride as they struggle with the challenges of separation due to World War II. We take a funny and fantastical turn with a Louisiana transplant who learns the hard way that jackalopes do exist. And they have a penchant for blood and hard liquor. And then we journey to a darker side of the city as we find out what happens when an unstable woman with a loaded gun wreaks havoc on an idyllic community. Follow us on another twist as we explore the ins and outs of discrimination - all the new professor wants is to fit in, but students and faculty shun her as readily as she shuns the light. What's a vampire to do? Finally, travel to the far future on a treasure hunt. The Houston tunnel systems are in ruin and a wealthy real estate tycoon wants to revitalize, but he soon discovers more than just real estate under the rubble.

Offered by DGSandru (author): This is a book about tree houses in a giant tree

Description: An experiment in a weird book causes four youngsters, Nathan, Perry, Melissa, and Michelle to appear in an incredibly strange and desolate world. Trees as large as mountains, scattered across the desolate land like oases, support all life, safe from the monsters that patrol the night fog on the ground. Races of people living in medieval societies populate the giant trees. Known as the Lorns in this particular tree, they welcome the four kids into their world—until Hellferata, the evil spirit descendent of Medusa, intrudes upon their beloved tree.
As the kids search for a way home, Hellferata searches for the prophesied mortal superhero she must battle to the death. Suspecting Michelle for this golden-haired superhero, Hellferata sends her son, Dracu Mort, into the Lorn Tree to kill her. Fearful of the evil spirit the Lorns move to expel the four Americans from their tree. Thinking quickly, the kids devise a plan to avoid the monsters roaming the land and travel to the next tree, where it is rumored there may be a path back home. Will their ingenuity, cunning, and courage help them make it to the Cascade Tree and find a way home, or will Hellferata and Dracu Mort mete out their wrath before they can escape?
Imparting the inspiring message that fear is but a passing foil and love is the true answer, Arboregal- The Lorn Tree is a spiritual quest of hope and friendship that exposes the inherent power we all share.

The Fragrance of Crushed Violets: Forgiving the Inexcusable by Cathy Bryant (WordVessel Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by catbry1 (author): This giveaway is provided by the author, Cathy Bryant.

Description: A Bible study about forgiveness...

What do we do when a loved one, boss, co-worker, friend, or enemy seem determined to bring us down through an attack? How do we handle it when their assault is personal, public, deep, unjust, unfair, and unfounded? Take it one step further. How do we deal with meaningless acts of destruction and death, say in something similar to the Twin Towers incident or a school shooting, especially when the offender shows no remorse? Do we file it in our brains and rack it up to "one more senseless act" and chance to think that God somehow messed up?

In short, how do we move past the hurt and anger to a place of forgiveness?

Join us as we examine relevant scriptures and come away with a scriptural understanding of:
• what forgiveness is and what it isn't
• God's role in the process of forgiveness
• what Jesus accomplished at the cross for each of us
• our mandate to forgive as we've been forgiven
• what gets in the way of forgiving others
• how to truly forgive

Neither right-wingers, nor lefties, meat-eaters or vegetarians, CEOs or clerks could take any solace from this hilarious, outrageous satire. On the British side, Malcolm is present at Dunkirk and his mother, Helen, experiences the bombing of London.
Nell, British, Rudi, Austrian, and their daughter Acorn sit out the war in Southern Rhodesia, but nonetheless, war touches every aspect of their lives.

The Austrian contingent consists of Amelia, an aristocrat, who is mother of Rudi and two teenagers, Werner and Sofie, who live in Nazi-occupied Vienna. The family is anti-Nazi but pays lip-service to the Nazi overlords, while helping to run a Monarchist Resistance group. Werner, an ambulance driver, is injured in Normandy. Sofie creates a problem for her family by falling in love and secretly marrying a Nazi officer who participates in Hitler's Russian Campaign.
The story follows the British members of the family through to the euphoria of VE-Day and, at the same time, the Austrian members through to the Allied bombing of Vienna. Rudi and Nell in Africa are caught between the winners’ euphoria and the losers’ humiliation.

There are 100 copies of the book available for free giveaway for 100 lucky winners

But one more thing....

If you read and enjoy the book, then kindly help leave your honest review on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Colonial-Advent... or http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00JU...

Thanks and enjoy the book!

Description: Colonial Adventure is a graphic novella written in rhythmic prose depicting a slice of British colonial history (1936—1977) as experienced by individuals on both sides of the racial conflict.

It begins with a British couple who leave the sophistication of London to establish a large agricultural operation in what was then Southern Rhodesia, later Rhodesia and now Zimbabwe.

With the rise of Black Nationalism, the black majority rebels leading to a brutal civil war that has a severe impact on the two families, one black and one white, whose lives the story follows.

Of the shorter stories, also written in rhythmic prose, one concerns a female architect from Haiti, another a young boy abandoned at a country fair by his mother and a third addresses an over-reaction in the climate of fear surrounding Islam. The fourth story portrays an outrage committed against a teenager seeking to free herself from family domination, while the last tale is a dramatic monologue conducted by an African dictator.

A Ruined Boy by Eric Bishop-Potter (Matador)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by ericbishoppotter (author): This book does not contain vampires, witches, gremlins, dragons, demons, children with magic wands, werewolves, muscle-bound warriors with flaxen hair, castles, dungeons, enchanted forests, extra-terrestrials, time-travellers, robotics, school prom queens, terminally ill teenagers, or cats of any description.
There goes my dream of a million sales.

Description: Abandoned as a baby, Sonny Bunn at age 12, psychopathic, precocious and demanding, is reunited with his hated mother, Honey, a coarse, bloated, sexually rampant nightclub entertainer (she impersonates male movie stars: Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, George Raft, etc.), whose lover, Thomas Calvino, is a hit-man and procurer of boys for crime lord Sylvano Mastrioni. Calvino, seeing Sonny as suitable fodder for Mastrioni, inveigles Honey into handing the boy over to him. Sonny, who himself is a manipulative scheme, preferring a life of concubinage to the maternal bosom, moves in with Mastrioni, who, dazzled by Sonny's beauty falls hopelessly and slavishly in love with him, much to the concern of the Mob. The story jumps nine years, and Sonny, now in a state of permanent vendetta with Honey, sets in motion a plan that will wreck her career. But Honey and Calvino have a plan of their own - a devilishly clever one - which, if successful, will rid them of Sonny and Mastrioni both and make them plenty money. But plans, even the best laid ones, have a nasty habit of going horribly and horrifically wrong....

Set against a backdrop of Hollywood and the Mafia in the fifties, "A Ruined Boy" is a bawdy, blackly comic tale brimming with memorable characters - Harry Finn, a cynical, self-pitying stand-up comic unable to come to terms with his wife's horrific suicide; Tiny Templar, a diminutive movie star steeped in depravity; Henry and Jessica Lansbury, pillars of the community with a shocking secret; Jake Blickerman, a tyrannical movie magnate obsessed with the fear of scandal; Milburn Poole, a backstreet lawyer dreaming of success.

"A finely written, superbly plotted novel that will have you hooked from horrific start to gruesome finish. The dialogue is often hilariously droll. Marvellous." - Anna Cheska.

The Prediction by Darren Sugrue (KDC Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by DarrenSugrue (author): First 100 Reviewers - VIP List
http://www.darrensugrue.com/first-100...
To an unpublished writer, a positive review or rating is like gold dust. It's a tiny step in the journey of getting your work noticed (and possibly published). I've given myself the goal of collecting 100 honest reviews by the end of 2014. It is for this reason that I am giving The Prediction away for FREE!
Obviously I would like to attract as many positive reviews as possible, but if you genuinely don't like the book, I still encourage you to write a review. Dealing with criticism is part of what being a writer is all about.

I do ask however that you read the blurb before downloading the book or entering the Giveaway just to see if it is in fact your kind of book to begin with (i.e. Thriller, Drama, Suspense).
What do the first 100 Reviewers get in return?
If (when!) it is officially published - a free signed physical copy
A free e-copy of my next book (probably 2015)
A link to your blog (if you have one) on my website
Special mention in the acknowledgements section of my next book
And well, if I ever make it big and become a bestselling author, trust me when I say the First 100 Reviewers VIP list is NOT something I will easily forget! :-)

Description: PRAISE for "The Prediction":
"Gripping storyline, full of suspense and a most unexpected ending."
"An engaging suspense-filled book that kept me awake reading way into the night!"
"I finished it in one sitting - amazing. This book deserves to be read!"
"This is one of the most compelling, vivid, clever stories I've read in quite some time."

Nobody knows the day they’ll die... until now.

Mathematical genius Daniel Geller has developed a formula to predict a person’s date of death only to have it rejected by the faculty at Trinity College. Totally devastated Daniel turns his back on the world he once loved.

Twelve years on, Daniel’s old professor John Redmond and his wife are coming to terms with the death of their ten-year-old son. Could Daniel's formula have predicated his death? Revisiting the thesis, the professor makes an astonishing discovery: out of the five fellow students whom Daniel used the formula on, one of them died on the exact date predicted by Daniel.

One more is due to die in six days: Daniel’s ex-lover Grace.

The professor draws Daniel back into the world of mathematics where he is suddenly faced with the dilemma of allowing someone he once loved to die to be one step closer to proving his thesis and enjoying a prestige he once dreamed of...

Set in the vibrant cities of Dublin and Amsterdam, The Prediction is a powerful story about coping with shattered dreams, the loss of a loved one, and an illustration of just how unpredictable the human heart can be.

A Jab of Deep Urgency by E. Kristin Anderson (Finishing Line Press)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by EKAnderson (author): The giveaway recipient will receive a copy of A JAB OF DEEP URGENCY from the limited first-printing, signed and personalized by the author.

Description: A JAB OF DEEP URGENCY is a collection of 30 poems crafted during Found Poetry Review’s Pulitzer Remix project in 2013. Mined from the text of Jennifer Egan’s novel, A VISIT FROM THE GOON SQUAD, these poems were all created using the erasure method (also known as blackout or whiteout) on various pages of the original text, resulting in a brand new narrative.

Praise for A JAB OF DEEP URGENCY:

“See, it’s mine” is a line from one of E. Kristin Anderson’s delicious found poems. Her source text is a Jenniger Egan novel and Ms. Anderson has made from those splendid pages something uniquely hers and equally satisfying. Did I mention I love this collection? I do.
— Ron Koertge, award-winning novelist and author of The Ogre’s Wife and Indigo

With and through Egan's text, Anderson speaks in a vivid and original voice. It's a 'staggering metamorphosis' (a phrase in the book) from one fully realized butterfly to another.
— Jessy Randall, author if Injecting Dreams into Cows

Found poetry is a deceivingly challenging practice; working within a constrained vocabulary, poets must remake the text anew. In A Jab of Deep Urgency, Anderson carefully erases pieces of Egan’s text, leaving behind a dynamic, personal narrative made all the more remarkable because of the myriad voices represented in the original text. The poems, each remarkable in their own right, cohere into a perceptive commentary on the relationships people have with each other and the environments in which they live.
— Jenni B. Baker, editor-in-chief of The Found Poetry Review

Using the needle of poetry, Anderson extracts the emotive music in Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad like an expert phlebotomist. Spare, dramatic, lyrical, and revealing, the poems in A Jab of Deep Urgency are strange and playful portraits of the exposed inner life. Confident without seeming cold, Anderson’s poems are as unique as the novel they were inspired by.
— Ada Limón, author of Lucky Wreck and Sharks in the Rivers

Description: On an Earth ravaged by climate change, and a disastrous attempt to reverse it,
human-dolphin hybrids called Aquarians have built thriving reef colonies among
the drowned cities of the coast. Now their world is under siege from an enemy
above the waves whose invisible weapon leaves no survivors. Ocypode of
Tillamook is an Atavism: half-human and half-Aquarian, marooned in the
genetic limbo between species. Only he knows why the colonies north and south
of Tillamook Reef have been destroyed, literally turned to stone. Ocypode knows
that Tillamook will be targeted next, but sharing the reason might prove as
deadly to Aquarius as the Medusa plague itself.

Ocypode and his Aquarian and human comrades flee into the open ocean to
escape Medusa, until another Aquarian’s treachery leaves them at the mercy of a
killer storm. Ocypode must pass through the Electric Forest, where he faces
nightmarish creatures and a legendary sea witch who becomes an ally. Finally,
he must confront the cyber-ghost of the human he most despises: Peter Cydon,
the Great Father who bioengineered the mutagenic virus that gave birth to the
Aquarian species. These unlikely allies provide the only chance to stop the
Redeemers, rogue scientists who are determined to resurrect the land by
slaughtering the sea. Even these allies will not be enough, and Ocypode must
decide whom to trust with a secret as lethal as any plague.

My Psychic War with Uncle Sam by E. Alexander Scianna (Harmonious Circle Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by alecazandre (publisher): E-book edition (.epub or .mobi) of our timely underground literary fiction novel My Psychic War with Uncle Sam.

We’d appreciate your sincere LT book-review, and if possible on Barnes & Noble (http://goo.gl/x1CnT) or Amazon (http://goo.gl/Z2rKw).

Regards,
Harmonious Circle Press
http://theharmoniouscirclepress.net

Description: An intellectual coming of age, My Psychic War with Uncle Sam swings from life on the military base with G.I. Joes in starched fatigues to the streets of Seattle where Dennis and Marcel encounter the hippie culture seeking nirvana on hallucinogenic drugs. The reader is taken on an exhilarating romp through western thought and history as the ideological struggles that permeated the 60’s generation are juxtaposed with the uncertainties of modern day life. With heavy doses of mysticism, drama, and humor—just to keep things interesting—the authors ask, “Who is Uncle Sam?”

Dennis DeLuccio invites the reader into his underground garden to rethink politics, war, sex, drugs, philosophy, religion, the occult, the origin of the hippie movement, and the meaning of a psychic war. Dennis drifts back to 1968 and his first assignment at Fort Lewis, Washington. He remembers Marcel Dreyfus, a young soldier who has just returned from a tour of duty in Vietnam. The many GI’s who say they don’t believe in the war, yet stand at attention, fall silent and follow orders even as they are shipped out to Nam, mystified Dennis. Marcel however cuts through the illusions of the so-called patriots with wit and rhetoric.

Packed with documented facts of U.S. foreign policy, paraphrased from the works of Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Bertrand Russell and others, as well as broadcast news reports of the period, My Psychic War with Uncle Sam infuses social comment with lived experience. Like Joseph Heller’s Catch-22, it fashions the account of a young army recruit living stateside through the Vietnam era into an eloquent and deeply funny plea against butchery in the service of authority. My Psychic War with Uncle Sam weaves historical fact and dramatic fiction into an essential storybook of our times that is both entertaining and enlightening.

“What a surprise! This is an exuberant romp through history, politics, and philosophy, through the eyes of a modern Alice in Wonderland. Escaping down a hole in his living room floor, Dennis seeks refuge from the horrors of 9-11 in his secret garden only to confront madness and paranoia, as he tends his garden and searches for an understanding of his experiences in the army during the Viet Nam era. The novel will keep you wondering what supposed masters of truth can be trusted to guide Dennis home in his psychic war with Uncle Sam?”
—Cynthia McKinney, U.S. Congresswoman and 2008 Green Party U.S. Presidential Nominee

“A dramatic account of one man’s psychic and political struggle against the cant and crimes of establishment institutions. Written with engaging candor and much human spirit.”
—Michael Parenti, author of Contrary Notions and God and His Demons

So far My Psychic War with Uncle Sam is earning mostly 5-star reviews on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, LibraryThing, and Goodreads. Here are some links relevant to the novel and its authors:

The Trigger by L.J. Sellers (Spellbinder Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by ljsellers (author): I introduced Agent Jamie Dallas in Crimes of Memory (Detective Jackson #8). I had so much fun writing her undercover role that I knew she needed her own series. The Trigger is the first book featuring Agent Dallas as the protagonist. I hope you enjoy her as much as I do.

Description: Agent Jamie Dallas loves undercover assignments that get her out of the Phoenix Bureau. But when a woman and her baby disappear from an isolated community of preppers in Northern California, she knows the risk of infiltrating the armed group is dangerously high.

Once inside the compound, she discovers that the brothers who founded Destiny are scheming something far more devious than kidnapping or murder. Meanwhile, her local FBI contact, Agent McCullen, is pulled from her team and assigned to investigate the murder of a woman with phony ID, found at the bottom of a motel pool.

Soon Dallas finds herself in deeper trouble than she's ever encountered—with no way to reach her contacts. Can she break free of the bunker and stop their bizarre end-of-world plans? Will Agent McCullen identify the killer in time to help?

The Trigger is a gripping story that highlights our greatest fear—how a megalomaniac and a hacker-for-hire can threaten civilization as we know it.
