Imperial Hostage, Book 1 of the Destruction Series by Phil Cantrill (JournalStone)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by DuncanMoron (publisher): We hope you enjoy our latest YA release.

Description: From the moment 12-year-old Prince Erechtheus docks in Poseidia, capital of the Empire, to be a hostage for 13 years, nothing in his life is easy – or safe.

An unexpected and foreboding prophecy, uttered by a blind seer, puts the prince immediately in the crosshairs of Al-Jinn, the powerful and paranoid High Priest from the Temple of Bel. In a fit of perverse desperation, Al-Jinn and several other priests ravenously abuse Erech before placing him on an altar for ritual sacrifice to Lord Bel. Only last-minute intervention from Kul-Kan, High Priest of the rival Temple of One, saves the prince from a gruesome fate.

At the Temple of One, although he remains a hostage, Erech is befriended by others his age as they are all educated in the Empire's arts and sciences. The Temple offers relative sanctuary, but the prince is repeatedly attacked. He survives with the help of his new-found friends and hand-to-hand combat training from Myriné, heir–apparent to the Queen of the Amazons.

Erech gains exceptional fighting skills and an understanding of the natural world as he matures, but he suffers a series of crippling, heart-breaking losses – most as a result of the many attempts on his life. At the twilight of his captivity as a hostage, the 25-year-old prince encounters one last trial, a trial that could very well lead to war between his native land and the Empire.

Crossroads Road: A Novel by Jeff Kay (Smoking Fish Media)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by jeffkay (author): Hello, folks.

Thanks for your interest in my book. Winners will be sent an electronic version, via email, in your choice of mobi (Kindle), ePUB, or PDF. In exchange, I would very much appreciate an honest review at LibraryThing, Amazon, BN.com, GoodReads, or wherever else you see fit.

Description: Product Description

Jovis McIntire's quiet life in the suburbs is turned upside down the day his mother-in-law wins $234 million in a multi-state lottery. She quickly makes an identical offer to all her children and their families: a large, custom-built home, and two million dollars cash. But there's a catch, a nasty hook hidden inside the bait. If the deal is accepted, they will be required to live together on a newly-created cul-de-sac in southern California, for the remainder of the matriarch's life — a woman Jovis sarcastically calls Sunshine. Not a chance! And that would only be the beginning of it, he knows. The rest of his wife's family is no prize, either. Nancy the bohemian earth child with organic, free-range armpits, Kevin the pompous scarf-wearing intellectual, Sue the 400-pound attention junkie who throws herself down flights of stairs for sympathy… Jovis sees them all as kooks, in one way or another, and they want him to live amongst them? Not for a million bucks! Or two million, even. But his defiance begins to fade when Jovis returns to his job, and realizes he's now there by choice. Crossroads Road is the first novel by Jeff Kay, proprietor of the popular humor site The West Virginia Surf Report! It is a rollicking comedy, perfect for fans of National Lampoon's Vacation, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. An early reader called the book "relentlessly hilarious."

About the Author

Jeff Kay has maintained The West Virginia Surf Report!, a strangely addictive humor website, since late 2000. He grew up in Dunbar, West Virginia, and now lives near Scranton, Pennsylvania with his wife, two sons, and a border collie named Andy (aka Blacklips Houlihan). Crossroads Road is his first novel.

Ghosts of Coronado Bay, A Maya Blair Mystery by JG Faherty (JournalStone)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by DuncanMoron (publisher): We hope you enjoy one of our latest YA releases.

- Jeff Mariotte, award-winning author of DARK - VENGEANCE"Maya can see ghosts; it's when seeing ghosts turns into dating them that the trouble starts. With the frightening, funny, and first-rate GHOSTS OF CORONADO BAY, JG Faherty takes readers on a cruise to some dark waters indeed."

Description: By all accounts, 16-year-old Maya Blair is a typical teen-age high school student. She hangs out with her best friend Lucy, has a turbulent relationship with her ex-boyfriend Stuart, and works at her family’s diner – the main restaurant on the island of Coronado Bay.
But Maya has an extraordinary secret – she can see, hear, and talk to ghosts. And when spirits are near her they revert back to solid form. She is what her deceased grandmother Elsa calls a Seer.

For years, Elsa was the only ghost Maya knew. But that changes when the century-old wreckage of the Black Lady, a ship that capsized in Coronado Bay’s waters, is raised from the ocean floor and placed on display in the local museum. During a school tour of the Black Lady exhibit, Maya meets Blake Hennessy, a young, fair-skinned boy to whom she is instantly attracted. Shortly thereafter, a sensual, gothic young man named Gavin Hamlin crosses her path, and she is equally smitten. Her feelings bloom before she realizes they are both ghosts – Blake, the kind-hearted spirit who cares for Maya’s well being, and Gavin, the dark wizard who thirsts to finish the evil task he longed to complete 100 years before.

To accomplish his nefarious plan, Gavin has to be human again. And for that, he needs the blood of a virgin witch. In his mind, Maya is the perfect candidate. Now it’s up to Maya, Lucy, and Blake to save Coronado Bay and the world from destruction. But time is running out, people are dying, and Gavin’s powers are growing.

Things were so much simpler when all she had to worry about was a date for the dance.

Chop Suey by Ty Hutchinson (Ty Hutchinson)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Review are appreciated. I'm curious to know what affect Darby has had on you.

Chop Suey is available in all ebook formats and in paperback at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBook, Smashwords. Coming soon to Borders and Sony E-Store.

Throw in a couple of gang members.
Mix in a pair of Chinatown detectives.
Then combine it all with Ling Chi, death by 1,000 cuts.
And you have the perfect recipe for Chop Suey.

Book Description:
When disgraced sales associate Darby Stansfield discovers he has six months to save his job, he does what any normal person would do. He freaks.

Desperate to resurrect his career at Teleco Wireless, he conjures up an international scheme filled with the promise of endless high-spending clients. It’s brilliant, it’s successful, and it involves doing business with organized crime.

But soon those closest to him find themselves caught up in his dangerous plan, and one of these unknowingly has the power to destroy him. Darby must now make a tough decision––give up on the one good idea he ever had or risk it all.

"Chop Suey, a debut novel by Ty Hutchinson, is a fast, funny and well-plotted thriller set in San Francisco and Hong Kong. Chop Suey mostly stays light and fun, then turns gritty when the storyline calls for it. I enjoyed the book. It kept me turning pages. It’s not easy to write comedy, introduce a vicious serial killer, and navigate successfully between the two." ––Reading Review

Can one man prevent a global Internet Armageddon? At what personal cost?

Today, every computer connected to the Internet is under constant attack from viruses, worms, port scans, and spam. Security professionals continually fight to contain newly unleashed cyber attacks, known as zero day attacks, only to have new attacks launched. Millions of computers have already succumbed, and, without their owner's knowledge, have become slave computers - remotely controlled zombies. Under the control of organized crime and backed by foreign governments, these computers are morphing into collections known in the industry as botnets, short for robot networks.

Internet security expert Mick O'Malley is the only one who recognizes the growing threat of the ultimate zero day attack on the Internet from a massive botnet. His unique hacker skills and network of friends enable him to fight back, breaking the encryption used by the botnet. More cyber prep than cyber punk, Mick uses real-life tools and techniques to encrypt all his communications. Mick uses encryption on a personal level, too, having multiple passports and multiple names and identities. While crisscrossing the globe in the air, on land, and at sea investigating the threat, Mick becomes the target of attacks on his reputation, his identity, and ultimately his life.

Along the way, Mick meets Kateryna Petrescu, a beautiful Romanian firewall expert. Mick's attraction to Kateryna develops as they work closely together and share the excitement and danger. Why is the government following Mick and trying to intercept his communications? Can he stop the zero day attack before it is unleashed? What will be the cost to Mick for his single mindedness?

Unfolding across three continents, the novel Counting from Zero gives a realistic insider's view of the thrust and parry world of computer security and cryptography, and the very real threat of botnets.

The Virgin King by Joseph Fullam (http://BaldPunk.com)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by Joe979 (author): I gave this book away in the past and got some great feedback. I have since had the book edited. I am not asking for reviews.

Description: What if the famous, larger-than-life King Henry VIII didn't die, but was sent into secret exile? What if he escaped back to England, only to be captured by his brilliant daughter Queen Elizabeth, who must decide what to do with her dangerous father, the rightful King?

THE VIRGIN KING begins seventeen years after King Henry VIII’s secret exile, just as he is preparing to send his bastard son William off to England. Faced with what appears to be their final moments together on a deserted island off the coast of Spain, Henry tells William the truth about his exploits as King. What follows is a lively and entertaining narrative that will also give the reader a feel for the paradoxical world in which they are about to enter. One that, in addition to its many colorful characters and surreal backdrop, is truly brought to life as it is seen through the eyes of William, a completely unadulterated knave whose entire world view was shaped by the vainglorious and half-mad King.
-
Set in one of the most dazzling and exciting periods of England's royal history, THE VIRGIN KING is a high-flying tale that will entertain the reader with each page. It is in no way an esoteric work. It is an ambitious novel written about two legendary figures, and although it portrays an intimate and scandalous portrait of Elizabeth, it is one that is consistent with historical data and the spirit of the times.

That’s until she meets Dan McKenzie, a man who she believes to be the knight in shining armor she’s been searching for all her life. However, Dan’s not who he appears to be. He lures Marcie into his world of lies, greed and high-grade marijuana. But fate intervenes on Marcie's illicit trip for Dan to New Orleans, when she's robbed in a crowded airport. The thug not only makes off with her suspicious backpack, he knocks her down, her head slams on the concrete floor, and she loses her memory right in the path of DEA agent, Sam Carre.

After a six-month investigation into the activities of a big time drug dealer crumbles, the same day damming evidence is found stuffed in Sam’s locker – evidence suggesting he’s the notorious leak on the team, Sam jumps on the first plane home. Arriving in a crowded airport in New Orleans - his reputation and loyalty are in question. But even though Sam’s tired, disillusioned and haunted by a past that gives him no peace, he stops to help an attractive stranger when she falls in front of him. When questions arise about Marcie, and what she’s involved in, the answers lead them to the exact felons Sam investigated in the Pacific Northwest.

When her illusive memory returns, this complex case pushes them both to explain the unexplainable, and leaves Sam with a haunting question. Was she set up, or was this a game she played? Sam’s forced to make a choice, walk away from the attraction that connects them, or risk losing everything.

Worst Impressions: A Novel by K.L. Brady (LadyLit Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by kbullock27 (publisher): Author is an ebook and will be gifted through Smashwords. If you enjoy it, please leave your kind review on LibraryThing, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your other favorite book sites. Thank you and good luck!

Description: WORST IMPRESSIONS is a YA urban twist on Pride and Prejudice featuring Liz Bennett, a basketball phenom whose already dramatic world is turned upside down when two popular boys enter her life—one vying for her affection and the other plucking her nerves. It's a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy for young adults of all ages.

Sharp-witted basketball phenom Liz Bennett just wants to finish high school under the radar...and without constantly defending herself against false rumors about her sexuality. With two trouble magnet kid sisters and a mother obsessed with protecting her virginity, she's already dealing with more drama than an Emmy-winning daytime soap opera. But sparks fly when two popular new guys enter her life, and she's forced from the shadows and onto center stage.

Trent Whitman, Liz's hot new admirer, pursues and woos her with his silver tongue and hazel eyes. He turns on the charm, and Liz turns off all common sense. Darcell Williams, on the other hand, is a star football player, who sticks his cleats in his mouth from day one. As far as Liz is concerned, Trent is a dream and Darcell is a devil reincarnate.

During the Back-to-School dance, Darcell spews an oh-no-he-didn't insult that cements Liz's contempt for His Evilness. Oh yes, their feud is on and popping! Driven by spite and embarrassment, Liz instigates a series of misunderstandings that propel her into an inevitable confrontation with Darcell. But when a Bennett family crisis reveals Darcell's and Trent's true colors, will Liz's pride prevent her from accepting each for who he really is?

Lost & Found by Violet Yates (self-published)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Morganna1afey (author): I spent thirteen years writing these poems. Most were written during my marriage and divorce; I went through a lot of trials and tribulations during that time, and experienced a lot of gut-wrenching pain. I had turned to alcohol following my separation from my husband. I thought over and over again that I could not survive it, but I did. I made it into recovery, and while it wasn't a smooth ride, I overcame. I owe it all to Jesus Christ, and it is to Him that I devote my book.

Description: Picture this: a turbulent marriage, four years of college and post-graduate work, single motherhood, a devastating divorce, disabling illness and a debilitating addiction. Anyone else might have just given up. But Violet Yates is a fighter. Embark upon a journey with her as you read thirteen years worth of poetry that comes straight from her heart.

Who Got Liz Gardner by Elizabeth Allen (You Write On)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by eallen99 (author): I am the author of "Who Got Liz Gardner" which is book one is a series of three. I will also post a giveaway for book two "Discovering Arugula" but it's important that the books are read in order. Book three is still being written.

Description: WHO GOT LIZ GARDNER, by Elizabeth Allen, is a coming-of-age novel about the (mis)adventures of a dysfunctional, self-centered but essentially good-hearted aspiring actress growing up during the hedonistic 80s and 90s. A first-person narrative, the story is mostly set in New York City and later Los Angeles, as Liz pursues her twin goals of finding A) a career in acting, and B) a decent man (The One). Both of these goals prove elusive, though not from any lack of trying on Liz's part.

The daughter of a five-time drama queen divorcee and a thoroughly despicable wealthy philandering shrink, Liz starts out with more psychological baggage than most people collect in a lifetime. It's no surprise that she soon seeks out male companionship to fill her emotional void, or that the assorted men she beds invariably prove to be disposable ciphers. But instead of caving in and becoming a basket case, Liz summons up her inner moxie and sets out on her quest to find a good life and someone with whom to share it.

Discovering Arugula by Elizabeth Allen (Outskirts Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by eallen99 (author): I am the author of "Discovering Arugula" which is book two in a series of three. Book one - "Who Got Liz Gardner" MUST be read first! Book three is being written.

Description: Liz Gardner is ripe for Mr. Right. She has lived an admittedly reckless and debauched life, all the while questioning, "Why does everything happen to me?" Enlightenment finally kicks in and Liz's forward path leads her directly to her soul mate. Unfortunately, she soon learns that real life doesn't mimic fairy tales or chick flicks. Even though she feels healthy and balanced, her destructive patterns have their teeth deeply embedded into her ankles like a persistent rabid Chihuahua she can't shake off. Fears of old habits, pining ex-lovers, the discovery of an ill-fated dark family secret and even murder threaten to sabotage the happily ever after she's worked so hard for.

How do you handle all the crap after Happily Ever.

In this sequel to her critically acclaimed first novel WHO GOT LIZ GARDNER, author Elizabeth Allen cleverly takes us back to the moment when Eric Alexander gets Liz. Then she proceeds to take the reader on a courtship ride with more spins, twists, bumps and turns than the Coney Island Cyclone. By story's end, you will be breathless, white-knuckled and lining up to go again!

Kirkus Review of Colin Preston Rocked And Rolled
From Kirkus Reviews (March 2011)

Murray charts a lustily tormented story of first love and heartbreak.

It's September 1985 in the bosky precincts of Elerby University (though it conveys the intimacy of a small liberal arts college) in upstate New York. Colin is entering his sophomore year with a lousy love life and a lousy relationship with his father, but he does have a good friend in Karl (a handsome natural athlete who has a way with women) and in the Beatles—"when you love a band so much that its songs fill the empty spaces inside your head and heart." But along comes Jasmine, a serious dish with lips like butter, who really gets inside Colin's head and steals his heart. Murray's writing is phonetic; Colin's voice lifts from the page—young and inexperienced, star-crossed and love-lost, which will come true soon enough as Jasmine drops him like a load of bricks and proceeds, that very afternoon, to have sex with Karl, into whose room Colin charges without knocking, looking for commiseration and finding betrayal: "'Yes! Yes! Don't stop'…the girl demanded loudly. Her voice sounded familiar." Murray draws Colin with immediate emotional pungency, and he doesn't lose the beat even when the situations turn slapstick. Nor does he tidy Colin up, rather letting him sink into a great morass of self-pity from which he must drag his own sorry butt toward whatever measure of salvation a decent, immature young man can find. Yes, the Beatles do offer the solace of shared experience, of meaning and even a little direction, but it is Colin's slowly gathering circle of friends—a very human society of odd fellows, including a dorm-cellar-dwelling delusional, a dark and mysterious Spanish professor on the run from her demons, big-hearted Big Ty and sweet Liz—who help illuminate the road ahead. Some of the sex scenes carry informational overload, but even then it is more humorous than cringing, perhaps even another epiphany that Colin collects: "There was no disappointment with Twinkies. You knew exactly what you were getting. Unlike Jasmine. Unlike love. Unlike life."

A coming-of-age story with plenty of sting, where love is not only blind, but it blindsides.

— Kirkus Reviews

"Bert Murray has produced a novel that is simultaneously absorbing, moving and funny - a character-driven page-turner that captures lightning in a bottle, and preserves a moment in time for eternity. I found the Beatles (and especially John Lennon) material compelling on several levels - as a fan, yes, but more so as a symbol of a generation gap, a figure for a grasping adolescent (or adult) to use when trying to figure things out, and as a touchstone - something every character and situation can be informed by."

— John Altman, author of The Watchmen and A Gathering Of Spies

"Colin Preston Rocked And Rolled is a novel that does a wonderful job of capturing the voices and lives of a certain time and place. The use of music – both music contemporary to the characters and Colin's beloved Beatles (already, of course, at the time of the novel, classic) – works especially well. Instead of using words, Colin, when in the grip of a strong emotion, puts on an appropriate song. Overall, the compactness of the story and the ease with which one identifies with Colin and his situation create an inevitability about the events that has an almost tragic quality as well as a strong structure. I felt I experienced it all with Colin, and it was a pleasure to read."

An Epitaph for Coyote: A Novel by Bryan R. Dennis (Bryan R. Dennis)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by tamamushi (author): Copies will be available through Smashwords in all popular eReader formats. If you feel it deserves a review, please leave one at Amazon, Smashwords, or Library Thing etc. I enjoy hearing from you.

Description: Here lies Henry Pluck — real estate closer and frequenter of nursing homes, who believed his life was one slice short of the starry-striped apple pie of success. A perfectionist at work and an eater of sandwiches, he drove an import, lived alone in a box, and was virtually indistinguishable from any other salaried clerk in Vegas Baby, Nevada.

So might have read the inscription on his gravestone.

But when he encounters Rosa Santana, an unconventional and perplexing young woman from the desert, he learns what a defunct building feels like before a wrecking ball.

This is a portrait of a lonely man coming to terms with his flawed interpretation of perfection.
For the world is not what Henry thinks it is, and as he’ll soon discover, neither is Rosa. This is the wild, mysterious world of 4,000 year old movies, cosmic irony, predators, and prey.

This is the American Dream, just before its pants fell down.

Amazon 2008 Breakthrough Novel Award semi-finalist

This is an intelligent and at times very funny novel as unpredictable as life, and as memorable. The "message" is so cleverly presented as well-written and engaging fiction that one may find oneself rereading the last few chapters, again and again.

ELEMENTS OF WISDOM AND FOLLY by Ernest Kinnie (Kindle & Smashwords)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by tzzo (author): The goal of my writings is to expand what you can feel, what you can think, and what you can become. They range from self-help psychology books to the wild adventures of a young girl, Alice, who can dance with time, space and the Shadow World. A warning. Not intended for the easily offended. Adult language is used when appropriate to the narrative, such as in ALICE, and techniques for enhancing sexuality are given in THE MAGIC THEATER II. I’m a retired psychologist, using a lifetime of experience to create entertaining and useful books for your enjoyment and personal growth.

Description: The ELEMENTS OF STYLE, by Strunk and White, described the most important elements in the use of the English language. The ELEMENTS OF WISDOM AND FOLLY does the same for self-help psychology.

THE ELEMENTS OF WISDOM AND FOLLY is not meant to be read as you would a text book. Experiential, not intellectual, understanding is emphasized. For instance, ELEMENT 5 doesn’t spend any time describing and analyzing Pavlovian conditioning and the creation of conditioned responses. You create the Power Word RELAX, and then use it in your life.

Alfred North Whitehead, in THE AIMS OF EDUCATION, believed that concepts and strategies become alive only when they are experienced. Otherwise, they become more like playing chess with words—-which can be very enjoyable, but doesn’t have much relevance beyond itself. In ELEMENTS OF WISDOM AND FOLLY you directly experience concepts and strategies, and think about them later, except for the theoretical section at the end of book.

Seriously consider writing down your experiences, maybe even keep a journal. The words WHAT I FOUND will be the cue to do so. Writing down adds a dimension to the experience. Reading later what you wrote adds another.

Use good judgment as you move through ELEMENTS OF WISDOM AND FOLLY. If you feel uncomfortable as you read something, or you are asked to do something that does not feel right, stop, pass on, and do something else.

The book is divided into four sections:

A. ELEMENTS
The 75 adventures and strategies in this section invite you to explore and enhance many aspects of your life. The descriptions of the ELEMENTS are very short, but the time to complete each will often take a week or more. Some ELEMENTS are fun adventures. Others will change your life, if that is your wish.

B. DEEP RELAXATION
ELEMENT 5 creates a connection between RELAX and relaxation, and that may be all you need. But, if you have trouble relaxing, or want to deepen the connection, follow the directions in this section. It is a very long, very detailed, very effective relaxation program that will create a powerful connection between the word RELAX and deep relaxation. The ability to use the word RELAX to quickly relax is a fundamental skill used many times in the book to help manage and change emotions and behaviors.

Also, fantasy adventures are much more vivid when you are deeply relaxed. You will be invited to go on a number of fantasy trips after you have completed the relaxation exercise—-you deserve a big reward after all of your hard work. In the final adventure, you’ll recover a past life. In groups I’ve run, most people bring back past lives, and are very excited by what they find. Of course with no collaborating evidence the probability is what they found is only an enjoyable fantasy trip. But who knows. I still enjoy magic, so 10% of me believes.

C. WISDOM AND FOLLY
360 quotations. You decide which are wise and which are foolish.

D. THEORETICAL FRAMWORK FOR THE BOOK
This section is for those who believe that logic and concepts further their understanding of what they experience as they go through life. Maybe so. Maybe not.

ELEMENTS
Best to begin with the first 10 ELEMENTS as they lay the foundation for the rest. The peaceful, happy place you find in ELEMENT 1 will help you be creative, and experience the other ELEMENTS to best advantage. The rest of the 10 will give you the basic tools to explore and change your life.

Some people will find these first 10 ELEMENTS are all they need. For most people, I suggest you use the Zen approach to explore the rest of the 65 techniques and adventures—-go with the flow as you move among the ELEMENTS, doing them in any order that feels “right”. A few people will do all 75. That will require a very impressive amount of time and effort.

The ELEMENTS can be done alone or in a group. If you have the opportunity, try both and notice the difference.

El Brujo---2-act play version---four university professors learn a hard lesson by Ernest Kinnie (Kindle & Smashwords)

Description: The 2-Act play version of the novel, The Brujo.

A performance of El Brujo would best carry a warning.
THE COMBINATION OF CANDLE LIGHT AND GUIDED FANTASIES USED IN THE PLAY IS POWERFUL AND NOT FOR EVERYONE.

Act 1
Scene 1

It is evening and four university professors are sitting around a table in Ralph’s study. The group is stiff and reserved. The room is drab, with browns and tans, and is, as you would expect, full of books and papers scattered around. They are drinking an Australian Merlot that Ralph recently discovered, and an early Mozart sonata is softly playing in the background.

Ralph is a big bear, who much prefers to go along to get along. The woman, Jean, is slender and has the look and manner of a bird of prey. Bill is tall, serious, self- satisfied, and has very sharp fangs. Johnny prides himself on being open-minded and multidimensional, and is intolerant of those who are not.

RALPH
A toast to our newest full-professor.
(All raise glasses to Jean.)
No one deserves it more. Your book analyzing the effectiveness of different therapies on rape victims was outstanding. May the power and glory lie softly upon your shoulders. Or is the word lay? Never could keep them straight.
(Everyone chuckles politely.)

JEAN
Thank you. I’m so lucky to have such decent people as friends. They are hard to find these days.

RALPH
You had something Johnny?

JOHNNY
Yes. I want to bring a guest to our next meeting. A magical man who will amaze and Delight.

BILL
(Rolls his eyes.)
I don’t know Johnny. That theologian you brought last time didn’t exactly amaze and delight.

JOHNNY
You and Jean were all over that poor guy.

JEAN
We were just testing his sainthood—-he didn’t pass. I didn’t know human faces could get that red.
(Laughter.)

JOHNNY
Well, the man I want to bring isn’t a saint either, but I doubt you can get his face red. He’s not a theologian, not a philosopher not a physicist. He’s a shaman, a Brujo from the Sonoran desert.

JEAN
Johnny, you have to be kidding. Is he that creepy character out of Castaneda? Or just an old fashioned guru, gulling the gullible as he drives another Jaguar into his garage?

JOHNNY
(Laughs but is becoming irritated.)
That is for you to decide. I just hope that he can get past your iron-plated skull.

JEAN
(Said with a slight trace of condescension)
No problem, if there is any merit in what he has to say. But, I don’t waste time on nonsense. And, you shouldn’t either.

JOHNNY
How can you evaluate an idea before you hear it?

JEAN
You do it by playing the odds. You know in advance that ideas coming from some people are just not going to be worth wasting your precious brain cells.

RALPH
I felt sorry for that poor theologian. We never gave him much of a chance.

JEAN
He didn’t deserve a chance. He still lives in the middle ages. And this shaman still lives in a cave, somewhere far out in the wilderness of the Sonoran desert. Stones talk to him as he walks by, and the friendly crows he meets are smarter than he is.

Alice---a wild, super-intelligent, street-wise kid, who can twist space and time by Ernest Kinnie (Kindle & Smashwords)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by tzzo (author): The goal of my writings is to expand what you can feel, what you can think, and what you can become. ________________________________

Description: A tough, wild, super-intelligent, street-wise kid, born with The Gift—-the ability to dance Space, Time, and the Shadow World. She watched her mother go sobbing out the door when she was 4. Ten foster homes later, she easily conned her way into UC Berkeley and has fun running circles around students and faculty. She never knew her father, but he left her a very large trust fund. Better than nothing.

Foul language comes easily to Alice when she is angry, upsetting the sanctimonious, or just for the Hell of it. This book is not for the overly sensitive or, as she so bluntly put it, “not for prissy hypocrites”.
____________________

I remember the first time I realized I was different, that I had the Gift. I was maybe 2 ½ and stacking my blocks. I was using my little chubby hands, and also using my magic hands to help. My magic hands are invisible, well I can see them a little bit, and I could move things with them. The blocks were almost lined up, but not quite. So I reached out with my invisible hands and pushed the blocks just right. My special, invisible hands weren’t as clumsy as my real ones and they were stronger.

My mother noticed. She made a kind of little squeaky noise and looked back and forth between the blocks and me. And suddenly I knew. You see, I had been wondering why mommy never used her magic hands. And now I knew. She didn’t have any and couldn’t see mine. She had such a shocked and scary face that I learned my second lesson that day. People are scared of my invisible hands, and if they catch me using them, they won’t like me anymore. So, after that I was careful not to get caught.

And, the first grade is when the fun started.

Ugly Dorothy spit on me once. After that she kept spilling her drink all over herself. Like, once when she was about to take a sip of orange juice, my invisible hands pushed the glass just a little away from her mouth. I can reach a long way with my invisible hands. Down came all that bright yellow juice, all over her pretty green dress.

In high school I learned all about linear time and Euclid’s three dimensions. The dumb teacher figured he had the whole universe figured out. Nope. Time and space twist and squirm all over the place. When he reached for his chalk, my invisible hand moved it a little to the left. He hid his surprise the best he could. I give him credit for that. But the 4th time it happened he freaked. His simple minded universe fell apart, and his little brain just wasn’t up to the challenge.

A guy hit on me once. Put his hand where he shouldn’t, and my invisible hands squeezed his balls—-just a little. What a wonderful yowl he made.

And then there was that amazing time in church, when there was a miracle. The nice priest was raising the Eucharist before all of the sheep—-I know, I’m supposed to call them a flock of lambs, but they looked like sheep to me. Anyway, he raised the white wafer and guess what? It slipped out of his fingers and kept on going up into the air, with a little help from my invisible hands. I learned to reach a long way by then. Oh my, the sheep went crazy. There were a lot of gasps and grunts and shouts and screams. I let it stay up there for a while—-and then dropped it. The priest must not have been much of a baseball player. He missed the catch.

The talking heads were all over it, carefully and confidently explaining what happened with meaningless words like mass hysteria, group hypnosis, or whatever. Nobody suspected it was just a little 16-year year old girl, having a little fun.
____________________

I was so excited as we all gathered in the large meeting room at the mansion. I wanted to add a little suspense, so I asked Johnny and Molly what they found in the supernatural and occult literature.

"Huge piles of bullshit," Molly began. "What happens is that some guy stumbles onto an awareness of Shadow reality, and from that tiny understanding or ability, creates a huge fantasy world. And if he is a gifted leader or writer, a cult is born. And if the cult fits the needs of the King, Sultan, Emperor or politician, a religion is born. And then they have huge wars, each side absolutely sure they have The Truth. Of course the rulers have no interest in The Truth. Religion is just a valuable weapon to gain power, glory and money. And there are always so many useful idiots ready to bow and pray, and die."

_________________________

Dorothy and Squeaky ran down the huckleberry path. Splashed across the tiny brook. Hurried past the stinky skunk cabbage. Waved to the red-headed woodpecker banging his nose against an old tree. And came to the huckleberry patch. Hundreds of blue huckleberries. Thousands of fat huckleberries. Millions of juicy huckleberries.

They stuffed their mouths and stuffed them again, and were about to stuff them some more when they heard a sound nearby. They went over to see who it was, except it wasn’t nobody. It was a big, black, sow bear, eating huckleberries like everybody else. Except she didn’t want to share. She reared up on her hind legs, growled, and waved her long yellow claws in the air. A very selfish bear. And then she dropped down on all fours and started toward them.

“RUN!” Dorothy shouted. And they ran.

They ran into the woods. Past the squawking blue jays. Past two noisy squirrels jumping up and down on a tree branch. Past a brown rabbit with big eyes who stared at them as they ran by. Past the green bushes and the green trees. Deeper and deeper into the Darkwood. Past bright yellow bushes and bright blue trees.

They ran until they couldn’t run anymore. They looked back to see if the old, black, sow bear was following them. No sow bear. She was probably back at the huckleberry patch eating all those juicy huckleberries.

It was getting dark and everything looked very strange. “Are bushes supposed to be yellow,” Squeaky asked, “and why are all the trees blue?” “Weird,”and Dorothy began to think that they were in a very creepy place.

Everything became very quiet as the darkness came on. The strange trees and bushes disappeared into the darkness around them. “What are we going to do.” Squeaky asked. “Well it’s too dark to find our way home now, so we’ll just have to wait until the sun comes back up,” Dorothy answered. “I don’t wanna,” Squeaky wailed, and began to cry. Dorothy wasn’t feeling too happy either, but had to be brave for her little brother.

We’ll make this quick and easy friend. I need money. You got money. Gimmie!

JIM
Why should I do that?

ROBBIE
Because if you don’t, you gonna die.

JIM
Well bad luck fella. I only have 8 dollars.

ROBBIE
Gimmie!

JIM
You’d kill me for a lousy 8 bucks?

ROBBIE
I’d kill you just for fun. Gimmie!

JIM
What do I care. I’m a sick old man.

ROBBIE
Last chance. Gimmie what you got, or you’re a dead old man.

JIM
No.

ROBBIE
You’d die for a measly 8 bucks?

JIM
Why not? Hell of a lot better than dying in a hospital with tubes sticking out both ends. Anyway, you’re bluffing.

ROBBIE
Well—-ya. I am bluffing. So, keep your lousy 8 bucks and live it up.
(Both straighten up and laugh.)

JIM
OK. That wasn't too bad. But your gangster accent was terrible.

ROBBIE
Whatchu mean terrible? I been to movies. I know gangsta talk. Cagney is my hero.

JIM
Cagney died a long time ago Robbie, and so did his accent.

ROBBIE
Whatever. So. What next?

JIM
How about a heart attack when somebody comes by?

ROBBIE
I don't know. What happens if somebody freaks and screams?

JIM
Then we pull a quick miracle and get the hell out.

Description: Who killed Niles Norman, the new head of the philosophy department?

When Norman is found murdered in his office, Liza Ryder, a professor of philosophy, offers the police her help. She’s worried they won’t take academic motives seriously. And she also investigates her colleagues herself.

Was the murderer the dotty old hippie? The vindictive former department head? The prodigiously incompetent administrative assistant?

Liza is horrified by how many motives she finds. Extortion. Deception. Secrets kept since grad school. Will anything be left of the philosophy department when the investigation is over?

The Core: Introductory Calculus...As It Should Be by Ugochukwu Akwarandu

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Ugo_A (author): This book is for gifted dreamers who would like to build mechanical wonders like hover boards, jet packs or flux capacitors. It's for those who would like to equip themselves with the skills to start a renewable energy revolution or actually do 'rocket science'. This eBook is available in PDF format, and I might be able to convert it to ePub or PRC/Mobi if there is enough demand for it. All reviewers are asked to please rate this book on Amazon and Librarything. Please give your honest opinions. Thanks!

Description: In theory, one's algebraic ability should be an indicator of one's calculus ability. That is, a student’s algebra skills should be a direct indicator of his or her calculus skills. The majority of this book is based on that idea. Because most (if not all) modern calculus books don't take the necessary steps to emphasize this idea and teach calculus algebraically, there will be a number of students who miss this link. My hope is that this book will change that. By mastering what I have presented in the book, one will be able to fully grasp calculus and put it to use as one sees fit.

Description: Evangeline has spent her teenage years in obscurity. Her foster parents have the emotional aptitude of robots and her classmates barely acknowledge her existence. About to turn eighteen and feeling like a social pariah, she is desperate to connect with someone. Anyone.

When Evangeline meets Sofie after literally stumbling upon her café, she believes she’s found that connection. Willing to do anything to keep it, she accepts a job as Sofie’s assistant and drops everything to fly to Manhattan, where she is thrust into a luxurious world of Prada, diamonds, and limitless cash.

With such generosity and kindness, it’s easy for Evangeline to dismiss certain oddities . . . like Sofie’s erratic and sometimes violent behavior, and the monstrous guard dogs. She’s even willing to dismiss her vivid dreams of mob-style murders, beautiful homeless people living in caves, and white-eyed demons that haunt her each night as figments of her imagination—especially when one of those figments is the gorgeous Caden. When she wakes up with bite marks on her neck, the fairy tale quickly turns into a nightmare. She slowly unravels the mystery surrounding Sofie and friends, and the reality of the bites and the “dreams.” What she discovers is far more mysterious and terrible than anything she could have imagined.

In a world where everyone has motive to lie for personal gain, Evangeline must decide which deception is least likely to get her killed.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by bhealey (author): The story deals frankly with issues of economic instability and individual consequences of job loss, including loss of a sense of purpose, identity and struggle for stability. Suitcase Full of Dreams by Hoy Kersh (Cozilove Enterprises)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by CypressH (author): Suitcase Full of Dreamsgiveaway is being offered by the author. Hoy feels this is a good book for young adults and would like to receive some feedback.

Description: Stripped of our dignity, how tall can we stand?

"As tall as our dreams," Hoy Kersh responds. In vibrant and emotive prose, Kersh shares the sorrows and joys of growing up in the dirt-road, Jim Crow South in the 1940s and early '50s, just prior to the Civil Rights Movement. As she tends her sweet garden and fends off the Klan, her compassion shows us a way beyond the pain.

Throughout the book, Kersh shares her personal memories, including those of various historical figures who inspired her—Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers, Martin Luther King, Jr.—all from a child's perspective. Hoy Kersh devoured books and learning while growing up, and despite being an African American girl in 1950s Alabama, she never feared to speak her mind. Kersh spent many of her days questioning authority and avoiding her mother’s heavy hand, but she still managed to remain compassionate—and determined.

Following is a quote by Christy Orion, Principal - Whale Gulch School

"My English class, mostly boys age 15 and 16—a tough audience—sat mesmerized when Hoy read her vivid account. History was suddenly a tangible experience."

Last Train From Berlin by Irene Magers (Shady Tree Press)

Offered by Cityreader (publisher): The publisher, Shady Tree Press, is giving this book away in response to the overwhelming demand and wonderful comments the first two books of the trilogy generated. We thank all our readers!

Jenni by Shanda Sharlow

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Yusagi (author): This is my newest novel, and I would greatly appreciate any Amazon reviews

Description: Jenni Matthews thinks she knows everything about the world she lives in. Nothing changes and nothing matters short of surviving for the day. Life isn't much, and for Jenni life is even less than most, but it's better she knows it and be less, than more, and live ignorant.

One day, her static world changes.

Despite her strongest wishes, the changes in the world and in her life don't stop. In fact, they increase, faster and more drastic every time. Yet, with every new life she lives, it seems as if she is the only one who notices it at all. At first, she writes off the changes as imagination and vivid dreams, but as time goes on the changes become impossible to ignore.

As she becomes more aware of the changes she begins to find that, while she does not initiate them, she can influence these changes, affecting her past choices and manipulating the present life she lives to her whim. Yet, as she grows in strength and control, she is faced with a choice: to use these strange changes to her own advantage, regardless of the catastrophe that befalls those around her, or to use her increasing influence to fight them, and settle the world into static once more?

Description: In 1707, hapless vampire Jack Bentley made a pact with the Devil in order to escape a vampire hunt. Dealing with Satan seemed better than your standard angry mob at the time. But three centuries later, Satan is ready to collect His dues, whether the vampire likes it or not. He's taking Jack to Hell, and He's even got a job picked out for him down below: an eternal position at the Registration Office of the Damned.

Jack attempts to adjust to life on the Administrative Level of Hell, where fire and brimstone have been replaced by board meetings and the occasional broken copier. But the whiny complaints of the recently deceased and the legions of suited, cookie-cutter demons are the least of his problems. Try adding to the equation a dead ex-lover, a dangerous attraction to his high-ranking demon companion, Alexander Ridner, and the sticky and distorted anti-vampire politics of a Hell that is surprisingly like our own world.

Description: A fun chick lit that will appeal to fans of Sophie Kinsella and Marian Keyes. Bridget Jones meets The Office. Madison Lee is a fresh college grad, ready to take on the world of print media. But she has zero luck landing a job. Unemployment is at ten percent and on the rise. Desperate and left with no other options, she accepts a position as a service rep at a call center in Pocatello, Idaho. At the Lightning Speed call center in Spudsville, Maddy plunges into the wild and dysfunctional world of customer service where Sales is prided over Service and an eight hour shift is equivalent to eight hours of callers bashing her over the phone. Oh sure, the calls are bad. But Maddy manages to find humor on the phone and off the phone. And with all the salacious drama behind the calls, there is never a dull moment at the Lightning Speed call center.
Lately . . . Maddy has been pining for her smolderingly gorgeous co-worker Mika Harket. Now things are heating up on the phone—and elsewhere. Don't hang up on this novel. Working at a call center has never been this garish . . . or this delightful.

Reviews:
This novel is chick lit at its best. ~Booksessed

Sassy and fun. A perfect escape after a long day! ~Chick Lit Is Not Dead

Funny, romantic and realistic. Lisa Lim is a great new voice in chick lit. ~Chick Lit Club

There are so many memorable episodes; if this book was adapted to film, it would translate very well on screen. ~Bookmarked

***Disclosures - There is quite a bit of swearing (mainly by the callers, not the protagonist). And I do take the Lord's name in vain. May our Heavenly Father forgive me.

Look for Our Mother and Our Father by Anonymous (Nada y Nadie)

Offered by NadayNadie (publisher): This is for paperbacks of "Look for Our Mother and Our Father." You have to have an open mind when you read this book; it's very different. It is a criticism of our cultural beliefs. If you like to explore new ideas and ask, “what if?” this is a good book for you. Remember, “you can prove anything you want, but you can’t prove truth.”

The manuscript is in the format of forty-two essays, ranging in length from two pages to thirty-eight pages. You have to read them all to see how everything ties together.

Note: covers may be scuffed, books may have stray marks, etc.

Description: This is a book about everything we think we
know, everything we think we have learned through the
natural and social sciences, and every theory proposed by
our philosophers and theologians. This holistic look at our
culture examines our knowledge, spirituality, lifestyle, and values and provides a new and unexpected perspective.

Imagine you have spent your life in the middle of a dust
storm, and the air finally clears. Suddenly you see that
every step you thought was a step forward was actually a
step backward, and you are not where you thought you
were. Imagine you can clearly see things now that you
had not even realized were distorted, because you were
accustomed to the way everything looked in the middle of
that cloud of dust…

Here is a sad tale of a culture that thought it was the
most advanced, enlightened culture ever – but wasn’t.
The author takes a concrete look at our lives and shows
us that we are not where we think we are.

The message of the book is that we need to look at our actions critically in order to understand what we are doing in our lives. The hope of the book is that we can learn to respect all the beings with whom we share the planet.

The Art of Flourishing by Dr. Jeffrey B Rubin (Crown Archetype)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by CrownPublishing (publisher): Crown Publishing is giving away 15 copies of The Art of Flourishing by Dr. Jeffrey B. Rubin. We'd love to hear what you think!

Description: “What a wonderful book! Jeffrey Rubin seamlessly integrates east and west, heart and mind, science and metaphor, universal principles and personal advice.”
—Tal Ben-Shahar, author of Being Happy

We all want more love in our lives, especially when the world requires more from us every day. Lasting intimacy—a close and enduring relationship with someone we love who cherishes us—is an indispensable source of strength, resilience, and hope, one that we especially turn to in challenging times. But too often being in an intimate relationship means we have to compromise—or lose—vital aspects of ourselves. How can we avoid sacrificing our own self-care to get the love we want?

In this original, surprising, and deeply revealing exploration of the self and relationships, Dr. Jeffrey Rubin brings the art of flourishing to life. The idea is startlingly simple: self-care is the foundation of intimacy, and intimacy is the culmination of self-care. The Art of Flourishing provides the reader with the tools necessary to thrive, to live a life of meaning, passion, and fulfillment.

An expert on both Eastern meditative and Western psychotherapeutic traditions, Dr. Rubin draws on the best practices of each to create a new and accessible path to living authentically. His unique synthesis provides a remarkably lucid guide for handling our emotions wisely, discovering our purpose, and uncovering barriers to intimacy—the hidden emotional weeds that kill passion, such as conflicts over communication and power, boundaries and sexuality. Drawing from case examples and personal experiences, Rubin explains how to remove these obstacles to nurture empathy and mutual respect. Creating and cultivating a garden of love enables us to grow as individuals and nourish our connections with others. It widens our horizon of possibility, deepens our humanity, and helps us flourish, which is a priceless gift to the world.

Clutches and Curses by Dorothy Howell (Kensington Publishing Corp.)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Kensington (publisher): Kensington Publishing Corp. offers 15 copies of Dorothy Howell's latest cozy mystery, CLUTCHES AND CURSES, featuring amateur sleuth and professional fashionista Haley Randolph.

Description: Life is finally looking good for amateur sleuth/professional fashionista Haley Randolph. Her sort-of-boyfriend Ty is now her official boyfriend, her job at Holt’s department store is going well, and she’s on track to get her hands on the Delicious—the hottest purse of the season. What could possibly go wrong?

A curse from an irate customer? Haley doesn’t believe in curses but when things start to go really wrong she jumps at the chance to pack up her wardrobe and transfer to the new store near Las Vegas…where she promptly finds the body of Courtney Collins, an old classmate, sprawled across the floor of the menswear department.

It seems the curse also made the trip from L.A. because Haley is now suspect #1. Sure, everyone knows she was jealous of the now un-fashionably late Courtney back in the day, and Courtney was about to launch a spectacular new line of designer bags. And, well, there weren’t any witnesses when Haley actually found the body…

Since she definitely doesn’t look good in prison stripes, Haley’s going to have to get to the bottom of this increasingly strange mystery. Finding and catching the killer won’t be easy…and getting rid of this curse once and for all may mean going against everything a real fashionista stands for…

But to succeed, she’ll need the help of her fellow quilters, including the one friend she never thought she’d see again—or forgive. Offered by Kensington (publisher): Kensington Publishing Corp. offers 15 copies of Elizabeth Bass's WHEREVER GRACE IS NEEDED to fans of heartwarming women's fiction.

Description: Elizabeth Bass—author of Miss You Most of All—creates an unforgettable story of friendship, compassion, and the extraordinary love that lies at the heart of every ordinary family.

When Grace Oliver leaves Portland for Austin, Texas, to help her father, Lou, recuperate from a car accident, she expects to stay just a few weeks. Since her mother’s divorce thirty years ago, Grace has hovered on the periphery of the Oliver family. But now she sees a chance to get closer to her half-brothers and the home she’s never forgotten.

But the Olivers are facing a crisis. Tests reveal that Lou, a retired college professor whose sharp tongue and tenderness Grace adores, is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Grace delays her departure to care for him, and is soon entwined in the complicated lives of her siblings—all squabbling over Lou’s future—and of the family next door…

Ray West and his three children are reeling from a recent tragedy, particularly sixteen-year-old Jordan, whose grief is heightened by guilt and anger. Amid the turmoil, Grace not only gives solace and support, but learns to receive it. And though she came to Austin to reconnect with her past, she is drawn by degrees into surprising new connections.

With wit, wisdom, and unfailing insight, Elizabeth Bass tells a story of loving and letting go, of heartache and hope, and of the joy that comes in finding a place we can truly call home.

The Book of Awful by Romi Moondi (Amazon)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by RomiM (author): My last giveaway surprised me with a decent number of entrants, so why not give away some more? ;-)

Winners will receive the book in the format of their choice, for what will hopefully be a great free summer read! After that, there will be NO MORE FREEBIES until the Fall (unless I randomly change my mind); that's right, screw you guys, I need to make some money over here!!!

Ahem.

A review on Amazon/Goodreads from the winners is requested, if they (you?) would be so kind. But I won't hunt down the winners and force them to review, I promise.

To follow up on my last giveaway, I will say once again in more serious terms:

-It's my mission to prove that a self-published author can be just as successful as the "big boys", even with just one title in the mix. I feel confident in this mission, with advertising placements slated throughout the summer, and with a passionate belief that my book will be a treasure-trove of pleasure for your reading sensibilities (are you getting turned on yet? Have you disrobed?...)

-I also want to prove that women can be funny; it's certainly been proven before, but for some odd reason (possibly related to shows like "The Bachelor" which invite silly women to behave like one-dimensional rose-obsessers), modern society doesn't seem to be getting the message...and what the H is up with that?!

On my main Librarything member page, I've posted potential taglines for my book; here they are again:

The Book of Awful: "Not just for hookers anymore..."
The Book of Awful: "You'll get so high from laughing, you'll never have to buy cocaine by the kilo again!"
The Book of Awful: "Your mom."

Good luck in your contest entry; may the odd-Gods be with you...

-Romi

Description: Product Description
Wouldn't it be nice if we all held hands and pooped rainbows?

Sure, but until our world becomes a technicolor paradise, what's the REAL way for people to get happy?

Avoiding catastrophe.

This parody of "The Book of Awesome" outlines one awful scenario after the next, to demonstrate how much worse life could really be. Whether it's a world where you finally meet your evil twin, the cancellation of Facebook, or the discovery of unicorns that forever alters society, you'll feel relieved you're only READING about it.

For ease of comprehension, the author lends her humble experiences to several topics, and leaves no stone of embarrassment unturned (not even the one where she had head lice as a grown adult).

To cover off a vast array of concerns, the book is sectioned off into highly relevant topics for mankind:

1. Self-Image
2. World Issues
3. Life Skills
4. Food and Drink
5. Society and You
6. Alternative Lifestyles
7. Dating, Stalking and Romance

By the end, the reader won't feel "awesome", but overwhelming relief?

Highly probable.

And relief isn't all that different from happiness, is it? Let's not split hairs...

The Kitchen Shrink by Dee DeTarsio (Just Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by DeeDeTarsio (author): I am a new author--looking for readers! I have 10 copies of THE KITCHEN SHRINK available to be gifted to you as an Amazon Kindle ebook, which I can gift to readers via Amazon. Description: THE KITCHEN SHRINK
A Novel
by Dee DeTarsio

From TV writer Dee DeTarsio, comes a new novel, featuring the humor, vulnerability, honesty and flaws of a suburban heroine...

The Kitchen Shrink
If your life is a mess, your house could probably use a makeover, too. Welcome to the behind-the-scenes world of reality TV in The Kitchen Shrink:
“My kids smoke dope, my ex is one,
I said ‘nope' when I wanted to run…
Into your arms…And feel your lucky charms…”
When did Lisby Shaw’s life turn into a country music song? Probably when her best friend signed her up for the debut of the new reality TV show, The Kitchen Shrink, for the ultimate life and home makeover! Unable to squirm out of this “it will be fun” opportunity, Lisby tries to juggle her upstairs-behind-the-scenes-life with her downstairs-in-front-of-the-camera persona, where everything she says and does can and will be used against her.
Hopefully, the show doesn't find out about her fling with that hunky carpenter. Or that she and her friend smoked hootch she found in her daughter's room. Lisby cannot believe what a freak show her life has become. At least no one knows about her crush on Sam, Sam, the Cameraman…
Lisby tries to find her way as the TV cameras capture her every move, zooming in on drama with her kids, her ex, her mom and her best friend. Stay tuned for Lisby’s extreme close-up as she becomes a jilted laughingstock on national TV. All is lost…or is it?

Description: Are you managing your brain, or is your brain managing you?

Independent philosopher James Olson explores how distortions and even destructive polarizations can occur – in politics, culture, and our relationships – when one brain hemisphere is dominated by the other. But what if our goal is to gain the cooperation of others and live in peace?

The answer, Olson shows in his new book, The Whole-Brain Path to Peace, is that each of us must learn to consciously integrate the contrasting views of the world provided by each brain hemisphere.

Based on 20 years of research, The Whole-Brain Path to Peace reveals that we have the freedom to adjust our perceptions — and harmonize our relationships — by shifting our brain perspectives at will, as each occasion demands.

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by M.G.Harmon (author): Wearing the Cape will be posted directly to selected readers through Amazon (where it is now available for $.99). It is readable on Kindles, PCs, I-pads, Androids, and Blackberries.

Description: "I was driving east on the Eisenhower Expressway when the Teatime Anarchist dropped the Ashland Avenue overpass on top of me, using enough C4 to bring the whole southbound span down at once."
—————————————————————-

WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO?

Hope did, but she grew out of it. Which made her superhuman breakthrough in the Ashland Bombing, just before starting her freshman year at the University of Chicago, more than a little ironic.

And now she has some decisions to make. Given the code-name "Astra" and invited to join the Sentinels, Chicago’s premier super-team, will she take up the cape and mask and become a career superhero? Or will she get a handle on her new powers (super-strength has some serious drawbacks) and then get on with her life-plan?

In a world where superheroes join unions and have agents, and the strongest and most photogenic ones become literal supercelebrities, the temptation to become a cape is strong. But the price can be high—especially if you’re “outed” and lose the shield of your secret identity.

Becoming a sidekick puts the decision off for awhile, but Hope’s life is further complicated when The Teatime Anarchist, the supervillain responsible for the Ashland Bombing, takes an interest in her. Apparently as Astra, Hope is supposed to save the world. Or at least a significant part of it.

Moxie for Managers: The Secret to Evolving from Manager to Leader by Ann Tardy (Fish Head Publishing)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by PaulaKrapf: We are the publicity firm working with Ann to get the word out about this inspiring book on leadership.

About the author: From Silicon Valley corporate attorney to award-winning execution expert, Ann Tardy has never met a dull moment. Ann prepares managers to execute in complex bureaucratic environments. By combining the art of management with the science of behavioral economics, Ann teaches middle leaders to implement, execute, and effect change by learning to influence intrinsic motivation, the foundation of moxie.

Description: When innovation, progress, and brilliance matter, it’s time to unleash moxie in the middle lane. It’s time for business as unusual. It’s time we all stop selling ourselves and our people unacceptably short. As a middle leader, you have the power to strike the match that will start it all. You are a clandestine superhero with the power to influence people’s behaviors and actions. Your power only works, however, if you operate with the knowledge of influence that every manager must use to ignite change. Apply the nine essential influencing tenets to a battle cry and add a dose of iconoclastic (sometimes irreverent) action, and you have the power to impact from the middle. That’s the power of moxie.

Ann Tardy’s Moxie for Managers uses behavioral science to blast myths about employee motivation and engagement. Tardy replaces these myths with strategies and tools that influence, instigate, and inspire people to own their work, their own success, and the success of the company. People are hungry to make a difference, but they’re hardwired to hold themselves back. When managers understand how to access and rewire that hardwiring, they can evolve into leaders.

By the end of this book, you will know how to:
1. Master the ten influencing tenets that impact all human beings.
2. Swap “motivating people” with “influencing them to motivate themselves.”
3. Drive change in any organization, regardless of your position or title.
4. Become more effective in day-to-day interactions and big picture strategy.
5. Evolve into the leader that anyone would follow into battle.

The time for middle leadership to shine is now!

The Glister Journals: Bronze by B B Shepherd (China Blue Publishing)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by BBShepherd (author): I am a newly published author seeking quality reviews for my first novel. It is the first in a four volume series. The first few chapters can be read at the book's website: theglisterjournals.com.

Description: Bronze is the first novel in The Glister Journals, a Young Adult fiction series in four volumes. Set in California, it is first and foremost a story of friendship. Themes include first love, high school, family relationships, and horses. Supplementary pages include a Vocabulary section and Questions for Discussion suitable for book clubs. Ages 15-Adult.

Allison knows she's a little different, but it hadn't bothered her too much. Not until now. Moving away from everything she's ever known to a new house, new neighborhood, and new school is bad enough, but it's her first year of high school too. She's even more aware of her social and physical limitations than before. Then there are the new people she meets: the tough-looking girl in her home room; the cute, but dangerous-looking boy she encountered before school even started; the quiet, older girl who keeps to herself; the sullen-looking, apparently isolated junior that obviously doesn't trust or like her at all. Can she trust them? While her peaceful new home seems to amplify her own doubts, she also begins to learn that things are not always what they seem. Her world is turned upside-down by these and other new 'friends,' two-legged and otherwise, and life soon becomes more complicated, and much more interesting.

Olga - A Daughter's Tale by Marie-Thérèse Browne (Marie Campbell)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by olgasdaughter (author): 'Olga – A Daughter’s Tale'

Based on a true story….a family saga from Jamaica to England amidst World War II about heritage, prejudice and revenge. The story of an innocent and how world events, personal tragedy and malicious intent all combined to separate her from her beloved family in Jamaica.

Description: 'Olga – A Daughter’s Tale'

Based on a true story...a family saga with an epic feel - a story about heritage, prejudice, identity and revenge. Set in Jamaica and moving to London at a period in time when Jamaica was the jewel in the crown of the British Empire.

In 1994, my mother, Carmen Browne, was admitted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, UK, seriously ill. As she slowly recovered, I realized that, had she died, so too would the chance of my finding out about her past, her family in Jamaica and, of particular importance to me, who my father was, information she had resolutely refused to share with me. So, I decided to find out for myself.

My first discovery was that my mother’s real name was Olga Browney, born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and one of eleven children from a close-knit, coloured Catholic family. A kind, naïve and gentle girl, my mother arrived in London in 1939, to stay with a malevolent, alcoholic aunt and intending to stay for only six months. However, world events, personal tragedy and malicious intent all combined to prevent her from returning home to Kingston.

Written with diary entries and letters, "Olga – A Daughter's Tale" is based on a true story about cruelty, revenge and jealousy inflicted on an innocent young woman and about her moral courage, dignity, resilience and, in particular, love. It is the story of a remarkable woman who, because of circumstances, made a choice, which resulted in her losing contact with her beloved family in Jamaica. That is, until nearly half a century later, when her past caught up with her.

The Book of Awful by Romi Moondi (Amazon)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by RomiM (author): The "Book of Awful" is a high-euphoria experience like several hundred grams of cocaine, except you don't have to visit a dangerous neighbourhood to get it.

Hooray!

It sounds too good to be true, but your desire is really all it takes, along with a review which I would greatly appreciate!

So why did I write the "Book of Awful" anyway?

1. Because the happy-go-lucky sunshine of "The Book of Awesome" makes me uncomfortable

2. Because I want to prove that a self-published author can be just as successful as the big boys

3. Because your mom told me to write it, that time I was "givin' it to her" all night...(PS: I never actually "gave it" to your mom all night, especially since I'm a girl and that's not my thing)

Description: Wouldn't it be nice if we all held hands and pooped rainbows?

Sure, but until our world becomes a technicolor paradise, what's the REAL way for people to get happy?

Avoiding catastrophe.

This parody of "The Book of Awesome" outlines one awful scenario after the next, to demonstrate how much worse life could really be. Whether it's a world where you finally meet your evil twin, the cancellation of Facebook, or the discovery of unicorns that forever alters society, you'll feel relieved that you're only READING about it.

Description: A New Breed Of Fiction! Fantasy, adventure, mystery, horror, and a smoking hot romance all rolled into one!

The Heart of Hannen is an adult fantasy/romance novel. 18+ Mature content.

Christine is a troubled teen with a dark past. She is miserable in her small town. Shadowed in shame, she is destined to live her lonely life as an outcast. She has no idea that her true destiny lies in a different town, in a different world, a most brutal world called Atriia. There she will learn the true meaning of misery, the true meaning of loneliness, of shame. She will also learn that her bravery is boundless as she battles against a most formidable foe, a dark shadow that will smother the land. She will learn the true meaning of love, as well, this in the arms of a most unlikely candidate.

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by L_C_Russell (author): I am giving away five copies of the new release of NOVEMBER IN SALEM: The Bargain of Witches launched this month. All I ask is an honest review posted in Amazon.com, LibraryThing, Shelfari, or GoodReads. Thanks, L.C.Russell

Description: WHAT IF YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD SPARE THE SOULS OF THOSE HANGED FOR WITCHCRAFT IN 1692 SALEM, BUT YOU HAD TO BARGAIN YOUR OWN SOUL TO DO IT?
The old Danvers asylum has stood abandoned on the hill for as long as the townsfolk can remember. But when November Atwood and her twin cousins, Jeff and wheelchair-bound Hawk, discover a wooden box buried in its shadows, they set in motion events leading to the long-awaited conclusion of a pact signed in blood, by church elders, more than 300 years in the past—when Danvers was still Salem Village and witchcraft was a hanging offense. Cryptic clues and a curious gold coin, prompt the trio to venture into the tunnels beneath the asylum, where Jeff is struck by “elf-shot,” then abducted and replaced by a changeling.
With the aid of a gnome named Dynnis, the cousins embark on a journey to save Jeff on the Eve of Hollantide—deep inside the Hill of Hathorne. There they encounter The Room of Rings—a portal into the past. And its keeper, who informs November she is "…the one they have awaited for 305 years"—she is "The Prediction."
The pair travel through the Rings to 1701 Salem Village. There, November meets Thomas Parris and discovers a love that can span time. But first, she must face the diabolical Lord Astaroth and bring to an end The Bargain of Witches.

When her father is transferred to a new station, Lillian is anxious to meet the assistant keepers and their two sons, Heath and Ayden. She had never met children her own age, had playmates, or made a friend.

Heath, the handsome teenage boy who desires to become a doctor someday, welcomes Lillian. However, his younger brother, Ayden, doesn't like her and she struggles to win him over. Before long, a secret bond between the three is forged and to Lillian's delight, they become close friends.

After so many years, Lillian's childhood is beginning to resemble that of a normal girl. No longer is she lonely and isolated from the rest of the world by over-protective parents. Instead, she experiences new adventures, attends school, and falls in love for the first time.

However, her glorious days on Jasper Island are short-lived as her beautiful young mother begins a tragic descent into insanity and passes away. Lillian is left in the care of her sinister grandmother Eugenia Arrington, who, since the end of the Civil War, continues to steadfastly hold onto the once glorious Georgia plantation known as Sutton Hall. It is there that the immoral secrets of Lillian's parents are revealed, and she is left to pick up the pieces of her scandalous past, and somehow, find her long way home.

THE LOSERS' CLUB: Complete Restored Edition! by Richard Perez (Ludlow Press)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by bonkers (author): This is my first novel. My new novel, out now, is PERMANENT OBSCURITY ~ ¤*.¸¸.·´¨`°*» And what is PERMANENT OBSCURITY?

... Are masochists the ultimate romantics?

“Are you bipolar?” Casual Interview with Richard Perez by Rebecca Goodman-Smith

About: THE LOSERS' CLUB:

Description: Set in downtown New York City, THE LOSERS' CLUB tells the story of Martin Sierra, an unlucky writer addicted to the personals. His journey brings us into the East Village, pre-9/11 — and in contact with Nikki, his dream woman, who remains unattainable romantically yet becomes his friend and confidant during his illuminating misadventures. A romantic comedy and coming-of-age story.

"Every generation must describe for itself what it means to be a young writer or artist struggling with anonymity and a mountain of rejection slips in a city like New York. Richard Perez's THE LOSERS' CLUB tracks the poet Martin Sierra's melancholy and yet somehow humorous and hopeful life with an acid, yet not unsympathetic, pen. Perez has written a sharp, quick-paced satire of the personal ads subculture and the generally doomed semi-relationships it leads to, the bizarre and manic club life, where slam-dancing and other dangerous sports fail to mask the chronic—one might say terminal—loneliness of the participants. I especially like how the kaleidoscopic whirl of people and objects energizes the author and delights the reader with an almost photographic sense of time and place."
—Robert Siegel, author: Best-selling author of THE WHALESONG TRILOGY

"Richard Perez's THE LOSERS' CLUB moves fast without blurring, and documents New York City in all its self-invented variety: kitsch/retro bars and cafes, goth vampires, dyke rock bands, desperately clever personal ads, the endless cruise for a parking space, and loneliness so relentless its victims wind up feeling stillborn. In its quicksilver way, Perez's novel manages to be cheerful, bleak, and edgy all at once."
—John Vernon, author: A BOOK OF REASONS, PETER DOYLE

"I was hooked. I couldn’t put it down until I finished.... I was simply impressed that these were real, instantly recognizable people ... poor lonely bastards of every stripe resorting to utter humiliation and personal endangerment in the barest hope of hooking up with a kindred spirit. It’s a brave book with a great deal of heart."
—Poppy Z. Brite, author: LOST SOULS, LIQUOR: A NOVEL

"A story of youth, very well told, and it dwells in the mind long after a reader finishes it." —Joanne Greenberg, author: I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN

"A very beautiful valentine to a time and place almost faded from existence."
—Mary Gaitskill, author: BAD BEHAVIOR, VERONICA

"THE LOSERS’ CLUB gives a complete panoramic view of the downtown New York scene of the '90s, and along with all its flamboyant extremes... this novel has an appealingly old fashioned love story at its core."
—Madison Smartt Bell, author: ALL SOULS' RISING, TEN INDIANS

All of that changed when she found herself sitting before Official Agnes below the Command Center with no recollection as to how she arrived there. Desperately seeking answers, Autumn sets out on a mission that will slowly, but surely, begin to unravel everything she thought she knew, including herself. Can she save the only place she knows as home from destruction or will she lose it all in the process?

"Lucas’ mind was an interesting place. He was always thinking of a back up plan, there was always an escape already in place just in case things went wrong. It was fascinating, yet frightening at the same time. Through his memories I was able to determine that at some point in his life, he was actually a decent human being."

Love At Absolute Zero by Christopher Meeks (White Whisker Books)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by chrismeeks (author): The book is out now on Kindle and Nook, and will be released in a printed version on September 17th. The ARCs are in, and I'm looking for reviewers.

Description: Love At Absolute Zero is the story of Gunnar Gunderson, a 32-year-old physicist at the University of Wisconsin. The moment he’s given tenure at the university, he can only think of finding a wife, causing his research into the physics of Absolute Zero to falter. To meet his soul mate within three days—that’s what he wants and all time he can carve out—he and his team are using the scientific method, to riotous results.

You may fall for Gunnar who nonetheless can be as clueless as John Kennedy Toole's Ignatius J. Reilly in A Confederacy of Dunces. Can Gunnar make it in this world of normal people? Gunnar plunges into love—and learns the cold, hard facts.

Think of the book as the humor of Toole and Nick Hornby (High Fidelity), the science of Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), and maybe even the romance of Sara Gruen (Water for Elephants). It's a special cocktail.

“As if Einstein didn’t struggle hard enough failing at a unified field theory,” says Philip Persinger, author of Do The Math, “Meeks ups the ante by tossing philosophy, anthropology, hashish, and love (with a capital L) into the mix. And while we’re so sorry, Uncle Albert, in Love At Absolute Zero, Meeks succeeds absolutely.”

"As engaging as it is amusing, Love at Absolute Zero is, ultimately, a heartfelt study of the tension between the head and heart, science and emotion, calculation and chance." - Marc Schuster, Small Press Reviews

Destined (Book #4 in the Vampire Journals) by Morgan Rice (Morgan Rice)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by morganrice (author): Hope you enjoy it!

Description: In DESTINED (Book #4 in the Vampire Journals), Caitlin Paine wakes to discover herself back in time. She finds herself in a cemetery, on the run from a mob of villagers, and seeks refuge in the ancient cloisters of Assisi, in the countryside of Umbria, Italy. There, she learns of her destiny and her mission: to find her father and the ancient vampire Shield needed to save mankind.

But Caitlin’s heart still pines for her lost love: Caleb. She desperately needs to know if he has survived their trip back in time. She learns that her mission requires her to go to Florence, but if she wants to pursue matters of the heart, she must go to Venice. She chooses Venice.

Caitlin is overwhelmed at what she finds. Venice of the eighteenth century is a surreal place, men and women dressed in elaborate costumes and masks, celebrating an endless, lavish party. She is thrilled to discover and reunite with some of her close friends, and to be welcomed back into their coven. And she is excited to join them in Venice’s Grand Ball, the most important costume dance of the year, where she hopes, once again, to find Caleb.

But Caitlin is not the only one who can travel back in time: Kyle soon arrives, too, and is determined to hunt her down and kill her once and for all. Sam, too, arrives, determined to save his sister before it is too late.

At the Ball, Caitlin searches everywhere, and finds no sign of Caleb. That is, until the very last dance. She dances with a masked man who takes her heart away, and she feels certain that it is him. But as the partners change, she loses him again. Or does she?

Caitlin soon finds herself torn between the two loves of her life, and discovers that she has to be careful what she wishes for. Her joy at finding what she wants might just come mixed with tragedy and heartbreak.

In a climactic, action-packed ending, Caitlin finds herself up against true evil, Rome’s ancient vampire coven, and the most powerful vampire coven that ever existed. Surviving will demand all her skills, as she finds herself battling for her very life. She will have to sacrifice more than ever, if she is to save the one she loves….

DESTINED is Book #4 in the Vampire Journals (following TURNED, LOVED and BETRAYED), and yet it also stands alone as a self-contained novel. DESTINED is over 60,000 words.

Loved (Book #2 in the Vampire Journals) by Morgan Rice (Morgan Rice)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by morganrice (author): I am the author. Enjoy!

Description: In LOVED (Book #2 in the Vampire Journals), Caitlin and Caleb embark together on their quest to find the one object that can stop the imminent vampire and human war: the lost sword. An object of vampire lore, there is grave doubt over whether it even exists.
If there is any hope of finding it, they must first trace Caitlin’s ancestry. Is she really the One? Their search begins with finding Caitlin’s father. Who was he? Why did he abandon her? As the search broadens, they are shocked by what they discover about who she really is.

But they are not the only ones searching for the legendary sword. The Blacktide Coven wants it, too, and they are close on Caitlin and Caleb’s trail. Worse, Caitlin’s little brother, Sam, remains obsessed with finding his Dad. But Sam soon finds himself in way over his head, smack in the middle of a vampire war. Will he jeopardize their search?

Caitlin and Caleb’s journey takes them on a whirlwind of historic locations—from the Hudson Valley, to Salem, to the heart of historic Boston—the very spot where witches were once hung on the hill of Boston Common. Why are these locations so important to the vampire race? And what do they have to do with Caitlin’s ancestry, and with who she’s becoming?

But they may not even make it. Caitlin and Caleb’s love for each other is blossoming. And their forbidden romance may just destroy everything they’ve set out to achieve….

LOVED is the sequel to TURNED, yet it also stands alone as a self-contained novel. LOVED is 51,000 words.

"TURNED is an ideal story for young readers. Morgan Rice did a good job spinning an interesting twist on what could have been a typical vampire tale. Refreshing and unique, TURNED has the classic elements found in many Young Adult paranormal stories. Book #1 of the Vampire Journals Series focuses around one girl…one extraordinary girl!...TURNED is easy to read but extremely fast-paced....Recommended for anyone who likes to read soft paranormal romances. Rated PG."

Betrayed (Book #3 in the Vampire Journals) by Morgan Rice (Morgan Rice)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by morganrice (author): I am the author. Enjoy!

Description: In BETRAYED (Book #3 in the Vampire Journals), Caitlin Paine awakes from a deep coma to discover she has been turned. Now a true, full-bred vampire, she marvels at her new powers, including her ability to fly, and her superhuman strength. She finds that her true love, Caleb, is still by her side, waiting patiently for her to recover. She has everything she could dream of.

Until it all, suddenly, goes terribly wrong.

Caitlin is horrified to discover Caleb with his ex-wife, Sera, and before Caleb has a chance to explain, Caitlin tells him to leave. Heartbroken, confused, Caitlin wants to curl up and die, her only consolation being in her wolf-pup Rose.

Caitlin also finds consolation in her new surroundings. She finds she has been placed on a hidden island in the Hudson River—Pollepel—amidst an elite coven of teenage vampires, boys and girls alike, 24 in all, including her. She learns that this is a place for outcasts, just like her, and as she meets her new best friend, Polly, and begins her training in elite vampire combat, she realizes that she might finally have a place to call home.

But a major vampire war is looming, and her brother Sam is still out there, kidnapped by Samantha. The evil Kyle, too, now wielding the mythical Sword, is still on the warpath, and he will stop at nothing to wipe out New York. Caitlin, despite her new home, and despite her finding a new love interest in the elusive vampire Blake, knows that she can only stay on this island for so long before her destiny calls. After all, she is still the One, and all eyes still look to her to find her father and the other weapon that might save them all.

Torn between her new friends and her lingering feelings for Caleb, she must come to decide where her true loyalties lie, and whether she is willing to risk it all to try to find Caleb and have him in her life once again….

BETRAYED is Book #3 in the Vampire Journals (following TURNED and LOVED), and yet it also stands alone as a self-contained novel. BETRAYED is over 60,000 words.

Tomato Rhapsody by Adam Schell

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Adam_Schell (author): To celebrate the second anniversary of the publication of his acclaimed first novel, Adam Schell is giving away two copies of Tomato Rhapsody. A review is appreciated, but not required. May the sauce be with you!

Description: A village in Tuscany is the setting for this joyous debut—a novel that defies all our expectations as it puts a fresh, clever, captivating spin on the age-old tale of forbidden love. Rich in literary delights, filled with spectacular wordplay, and rife with the bawdy humor of Shakespeare’s comedies, Tomato Rhapsody is the almost-true tale of how the tomato came to Italy—at once a brilliantly inventive fable of love, lust, and longing, and a dazzling feast for the imagination.

This is a story born from love—a forbidden love—between Davido, an Ebreo tomato farmer, and Mari, a beautiful Catholic girl. But it’s not only Davido and Mari who have secrets of the heart. Everyone around them yearns for something—from Davido’s grandfather, who tenderly cultivates the tomato plant he stole on his voyages with Columbus, to Mari’s villainous stepfather, whose eye is trained on his stepdaughter’s virginity and his neighbor’s land.

Caught in the midst of these passions and machinations is a village full of eccentrics who speak in rhyme, celebrate the Feast of the Drunken Saint, and live a life untouched by the passage of time. The schemes and dreams of these men and women are about to change as what is forbidden becomes too delicious to resist. Tradition, religion, and good taste collide unforgettably in a story about the courage to pursue love and tomato sauce at all costs.A village in Tuscany is the setting for this joyous debut—a novel that defies all our expectations as it puts a fresh, clever, captivating spin on the age-old tale of forbidden love. Injustice in Perugia: A Book Detailing the Wrongful Conviction of Amanda Know & Raffaele Sollecito by Bruce Fisher (CreateSpace)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by RoeschLeisure: Gift paperback in great condition. It was published in 2011, so a review would be in order here.

Description: Meredith Kercher was murdered on November 1, 2007 in Perugia, Italy. Three people have been tried and convicted for her murder; Rudy Guede, Amanda Knox, and Raffaele Sollecito. This book was written with one objective in mind; to provide the honest truth about this case. When you silence the noise of the media spin and focus on the actual facts, you will clearly see that Amanda and Raffaele had nothing to do with this crime. All credible evidence points to one man; Rudy Guede. If you are looking for a suspenseful mystery with a surprise ending, this is not the book for you. I certainly don't view this case as a mystery. I believe the truth is clear for anyone who is willing to see it. Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito have been wrongfully convicted. This was a horrible murder, but not a complicated one. Rudy Guede attacked and murdered Meredith Kercher, and he acted alone. This case became complicated when two innocent people were accused and convicted of murder. Wrongful convictions create additional victims. Amanda and Raffaele are victims. They have been incarcerated for a crime they did not commit. They have gained unwanted fame from this injustice that will have to be dealt with for the rest of their lives. This book is the result of the hard work of many people. Extensive research has been done to fulfill my commitment of providing you with the honest truth about this case. Resources include independent scientist's opinions regarding DNA evidence, hours of crime scene video, hundreds of crime scene photographs, presentations given by both sides in court, the court’s motivation document, appeals filed by both defense teams, Amanda’s email home, and diary excerpts of the accused. Information detailing the physical evidence is based on expert opinion from contributors to Injustice in Perugia, along with actual expert testimony that was presented in court. Injustice in Perugia is an independent grassroots organization working to correct the injustice committed against Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito. This group will not rest until Amanda and Raffaele are fully exonerated and back home with their families.

Inspired by the underground sexploitation films of the 1960s, this bold updating of the "roughie" subgenre and lampoon of auteur filmmaking largely takes place in New York City's East Village (circa the Bush era), and it chronicles the rise and fall of a unique and intense relationship. Dolores and Serena, two chemically dependent, down-and-out artists set out to take control of their lives by making a fetish-noir/femdom movie. Of course, things don't exactly turn out as planned.

IS THIS S/EXPLOITATION NOVEL RIGHT FOR YOU?

"Funny, stylish, and always engrossing ... extraordinarily well-drawn and psychologically realistic. All in all, it's a vastly entertaining and also poignant work, and it made me very curious about and sympathetic to the worlds of BDSM and of drug-addled dreamers."
—Anna Biller, writer-director of the neo-sexploitation film, VIVA

The Cavern of Death by Anonymous (Valancourt Press)

Offered by SandySchmitz: Deleting from my collection. Very good condition.

Description: After a three year absence and a terrifying journey through the Black Forest, young Sir Albert has returned to Dornheim, eager to see again his friend Lord Frederic and his true love, the lady Constance. The Baron of Dornheim is set to marry her in three days, and, anxious to prevent the marriage and wed her himself, Frederic solicits the horrified Albert to assassinate the Baron. Determined to spare Constance a future with either the aged Dornheim or the murderous Frederic, Albert plots to rescue her from her father's castle, But when their plans are discovered and a band of assassins are sent to murder Albert, he flees to the haunted Cavern of Death, where a phantom, a skeleton, and a bloody sword will reveal an unspeakable murder and the long-concealed secret of his own birth. Fire-Tongue by Sax Rohmer (Book Jungle)

Offered by SandySchmitz: Deleting from my collection. Very good condition.

Description: "Some of Paul Harley's most interesting cases were brought to his notice in an almost accidental way. Although he closed his office in Chancery Lane sharply at the hour of six, the hour of six by no means marked the end of his business day. His work was practically ceaseless. But even in times of leisure, the club or theatre, fate would sometimes cast in his path the first slender thread which was ultimately to lead him into some unsuspected labyrinth, perhaps in the underworld of London, perhaps in a city of the Far East.
His investigation of the case of the man with the shaven skull afforded an instance of this, and even more notable was his first meeting with Major Jack Ragstaff of the Cavalry Club, a meeting that took place after the office had been closed, but which led to the unmasking of perhaps the most cunning murderer in the annals of crime."

You Were Born For This by Bruce Wilkinson

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by jacquet: I received a copy of this book through member giveaways and figured I would send it on for someone else to review!

Description:

His New York Times phenomenon The Prayer of Jabez changed how millions pray. Now Bruce Wilkinson wants to change what they do next.

Anyone can do a good deed, but some good works can only happen by an act of God. Around the world these acts are called miracles–not that even religious people expect to see one any time soon. But what would happen if millions of ordinary people walked out each morning expecting God to deliver a miracle through them to a person in need? You Were Born for This starts with the dramatic premise that everyone at all times is in need of a miracle, and that God is ready to meet those needs supernaturally through ordinary people who are willing to learn the "protocol of heaven."

In the straightforward, story-driven, highly motivating style for which he is known, Wilkinson describes how anyone can be a 'Delivery Guy' from heaven in such universally significant arenas of life as finances, practical help, relationships, purpose and spiritual growth.

You Were Born for This will change how you see your world and show you what you can expect God to do through you to meet real needs. You will master seven simple tools of service, and come to say with confidence, "I want to deliver a supernatural gift from God to someone in need today–and I expect to!"

Offered by odrach: I am the translator.

Description: A peculiar blend of farce and nightmare, Wave of Terror takes a darkly humorous look at the occupation of Belarus (then eastern Poland) by the Soviet Union at the start of WWII. Ivan Kulik has just become headmaster of School Number 7. It is through his eyes that the reader witnesses the tragedy of Stalinist domination, where people are randomly deported to labor camps, tortured or slain. Description: "When Miss Fox-Seton descended from the two-penny bus as it drew up, she gathered her trim tailor-made skirt about her with neatness and decorum, being well used to getting in and out of twopenny buses and to making her way along muddy London streets. A woman whose tailor-made suit must last two or three years soon learns how to protect it from splashes and how to aid it to retain the freshness of its folds. During her trudging about this morning in the wet Emily Fox-Seton had been very careful and, in fact, was returning to Mortimer Street as unspotted as she had left it."

The Uttermost Farthing by R. Austin Freeman (Book Jungle)

Offered by SandySchmitz: Deleting from my collection. Very good condition.

Description: "It is not without some misgivings that I at length make public the strange history communicated to me by my lamented friend Humphrey Challoner. The outlook of the narrator is so evidently abnormal, his ethical standards are so remote from those ordinarily current, that the chronicle of his life and actions may not only fail to secure the sympathy of the reader but may even excite a certain amount of moral repulsion. But by those who knew him, his generosity to the poor, and especially to those who struggled against undeserved misfortune, will be an ample set-off to his severity and even ferocity towards the enemies of society.
Humphrey Challoner was a great savant spoiled by untimely wealth. When I knew him, he had lapsed into a mere dilettante; at least, so I thought at the time, though subsequent revelations showed him in a rather different light. He had some reputation as a criminal anthropologist and had formerly been well known as a comparative anatomist, but when I made his acquaintance he seemed to be occupied chiefly by making endless additions to the specimens in his private museum. It consisted chiefly of human and other mammalian skeletons, all of which presented certain small deviations from the normal; but its object I could never make out—until after his death; and then, indeed, the revelation was a truly astounding one."

The Summer We Came To Life by Deborah Cloyed (Mira)

Offered by NineTiger: I actually bought this based on a review, and now I am passing it along for someone else to enjoy.

Description: From book jacket: "Every summer, Samantha Wheland joins her childhood friends—Isabel, Kendra and Mina—on a vacation, somewhere exotic and fabulous. Together with their mixed bag of parents, they've created a lifetime of memories. This year it's a beach house in Honduras. But for the first time, their clan is not complete. Mina lost her battle against cancer six months ago, and the friends she left behind are still struggling to find their way forward without her.

For Samantha, the vacation just feels wrong without Mina. Despite being surrounded by her friends—the closest thing she has to family—Mina's death has left Sam a little lost. Unsure what direction her life should take. Fearful that whatever decision she makes about her wealthy French boyfriend's surprise proposal, it'll be the wrong one.

The answers aren't in the journal Mina gave Sam before she died. Or in the messages Sam believes Mina is sending as guideposts. Before the trip ends, the bonds of friendship with her living friends, the older generation's stories of love and loss, and Sam's glimpse into a world far removed from the one in which she belongs will convince her to trust her heart. And follow it. "

Curios by Richard Marsh (Valancourt Books)

Offered by SandySchmitz: Deleting from my collection. Very good condition.

Description: Curios is a series of seven short stories narrated alternately by Mr. Pugh and Mr. Tress, rival collectors of "curios", who are sometimes best of friends and often worst of enemies. Pugh is superstitious, tending to believe every antique he comes across is haunted. Tress is cold and cynical and will stop at nothing—even theft or murder—to add to his collection.

Ranging in tone from horrifyuing to mysterious to darkly comical, these stories follow Tress and Pugh as they come in contact with an array of strange objects, including a poisoned pipe that seems to come to life when smoked, a 13th century severed hand bent on murder, and a phonograph record on which a murdered woman speaks from beyond the grave.

Curios was first published in 1898, the year following Marsh's greatest success, The Beetle.

In the after-knowledge I now possess of what was to happen there, that impression is not more clearly definite than it was at my first sight of the place. Let me at once set down that this is not the story of a haunted house. It is, or was, a beleaguered house; strangely besieged as was Prague in the old legend, when a midnight army of specters unfurled pale banneras and encamped around the city walls.

Of course, I did not know all this, the day that my real-estate agent brought his little car to a stop before the dilapidated farm."

Bright Light: Spiritual Lessons from a Life in Acting by Dee Wallace (O-Books)

Offered by NineTiger: Received from a Member Giveaway. Read, enjoyed, and now ready to pass on to someone else who would like the opportunity to read it.

Description: From publisher page:
Like you, Dee Wallace came in as a bright shiny light, and she knew from the beginning that her soul quest was to keep that light shining and share it with others. This was a challenge growing up poor in Kansas amidst all the conflicting religious and social messages of her upbringing. But she stuck to this strong intent and followed her knowingness in a meteoric rise as an actress, becoming an acting icon after only five years with the success of E.T., and then faltering and losing her way only to reclaim the power of that knowingness later in life. Bright Light works as an autobiographical tale of an actor’s life and craft, and how that journey applies to everyone’s spiritual journey. It is the story of Everyman: the reclaiming of Self. Each chapter of Dee Wallace’s story is characterized by a concept like “intention,” in which the narrative becomes an allegorical exploration of its qualities. Dee Wallace has rediscovered the wisdom that we all know but forget: that true success comes from following the heart’s lead, and that the mind only creates form for spirit’s creative manifestation. Our consciousness is our intelligence.

All he has to do is get her to sin, and Luc is as tempting as they come.
Unfortunately for Luc, heaven has other plans, and he's just started making progress when the angel Gabriel shows up. Gabe will do anything to keep Luc from getting what he came for, and his angelic charm might just be enough to keep Frannie on the right path.
It isn't long before Luc and Gabe find themselves fighting for more than just Frannie's soul. But if Luc fails to win her over, there will be Hell to pay...for all of them.

Young and In Love: Challenging the Unnecessary Delay of Marriage by Ted Cunningham (Cook)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Adayriddle: I received a copy of this book to review and the publisher sent one to offer as a give-a-away to further promote the book. A review, or your thoughts on the book would be appreciated though they are not required. You can send your review comments to Audra Jennings (ajennings@tbbmedia.com) of B&B Media or post them on their FB wall.

Description: Developing a godly relationship can be hard when you fall in love at a young age. Few people offer support. many doubt your love is real. It seems almost everyone - your friends, your parents, even your church - thinks you're much too young for marriage. You're not ready. But maybe that's not true.

Pastor Ted Cunningham reveals the secrets to creating a healthy, successful, and lifelong relationship in early adulthood. He explains where the arguments against young marriage often go wrong. Then he offers wisdom on how to know if you are making the right choice and helps you understand what it takes to be ready for marriage. And along the way, he shows you that, far from kissing dating good-bye, the answer to staying pure might be to prepare for marriage. Because it's often easier to say, "Let's wait" when "I do" isn't so far away.

Your Soul's Plan: Discovering the Real Meaning of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born by Robert Schwartz (Frog Books)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by CourageousSouls (author): 1 book in exchange for a review.

Description: Synopsis

The book Your Soul’s Plan: Discovering the Real Meaning of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born by Robert Schwartz (www.yoursoulsplan.com) explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we’re born for purposes of spiritual growth. The book contains ten true stories of people who planned physical illness, having disabled children, deafness, blindness, drug addiction, alcoholism, losing a loved one, and severe accidents. The information about their pre-birth plans was obtained by four gifted mediums and channels. The book presents the actual conversations people had with their future parents, children, spouses, friends, and other loved ones when they planned their lives together. For readers, suffering that once seemed purposeless becomes imbued with deep meaning. Wisdom may be acquired in a more conscious manner; feelings of anger, guilt, blame, and victimization are healed and replaced by acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude, and peace.

Author Bio

In a personal session with a medium in 2003, author Robert Schwartz was astonished to speak with nonphysical beings who knew everything about him - not just what he had done in life, but also what he had thought and felt. They told him that he had planned many of his most difficult experiences before he was born. Realizing that a knowledge of pre-birth planning would bring great healing to people and allow them to understand the deeper purpose of their life challenges, he decided to devote his life to the study of pre-birth planning. The extraordinary insights that have emerged from his work speak to our heartfelt, universal yearning to know . . . why.
