Description: For the discussion of Appalachian history, folk customs (to include herbalism and folk magic) and folklore. Many excellent books on this subject are published by John F. Blair such as Blue Ridge Heritage by John Lane Idol Jr., Mountain Voices by Warren Moore, Footsteps of the Cherokees by Vicki Rozema, Bushwhackers: The Civil War in North Carolina by William R. Trotter, and The Granny Curse
and Other Ghosts and Legends from East Tennessee by Randy Russell and Janet Barnett.

Books also included are those on Native Indians from this region, the mystery race known as the Melungeons, and other mountain folk.

Appalachia is a 205,000-square-mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to northern Mississippi. It includes all of West Virginia and parts of 12 other states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
