The American Revolutionary War Memorial
Learn more about the American Revolutionary War Memorial in Veteran’s Memorial Park! This is a new memorial that is designed to highlight the relationship of the formative period in our national history to people of Kansas. The educational memorial includes a center piece identifying those who were participants in the ‘Rebellions in the Colonies’ by including their names and the battles (not only in the ‘North’ but in the ‘South’ and ‘West’.
Becky Hunter will provide more information about this memorial and what this effort means to you and how you can help. She is involved in the American Revolutionary War Memorial Board as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at the local and Kansas levels. If you have questions, suggestions or answers from your family history efforts please bring them!

A Conversation with Charlie Whitworth - “Historic Wichita North Side”
Charlie Whitworth, Wichita historian and well-known personality will lead an Open Forum focusing on the “History of the North Side”. Charlie plans to start with a discussion of the poem “Cinnamon Summer” followed by highlights of the North Side Cattle Industry, the Livestock Exchange Building, the Stock Yards, and the Street car.
We want to “Bring your own knowledge to share” and may be able to capture this personal-level grass-roots history for those who follow.

Larry Skelton – "Wichita's oil derrick"
Larry Skelton, well-known geologist and local historian, will discuss the Wichita Oil Well that was in the area of 15th and Market. The well was drilled by the City of Wichita to produce ‘oil, natural gas, or anything to provide income for the city’. The results, wrapped in city and area politics, was a failure. Larry will review the reasons for the failure and other impacts on the development of the city.
