Author Shelley Shepard Gray (June 1)
The Learned Owl Book Shop, Saturday, June 1 at 1pm
Meet author Shelley Shepard Gray, whose latest book is Ray of Light.

In book two of Shelley's Days of Redemption series, Roman Keim falls for a young widow while visiting the Amish snowbird community in Florida. As he faces his return to Ohio, can he ever forget Amanda Yoder and her daughter? After all the uproar over his grandparents' secrets and his younger sister's engagement, Roman can't wait to head to Pinecraft, the Amish Snowbird community in Florida. He plans to enjoy a week's vacation with Uncle Sam and Aunt Judith and his cousins. The warm weather is a welcome break from the bleak Ohio winters, and Roman is ready for a break from the drama.

But in the condominium next door is a young widow, Amanda, and her daughter, Regina. It soon becomes obvious that there's something special brewing between Roman and Amanda.

There's something attractive about Roman that Amanda can't deny. But in the two years since Wesley died, she's never looked at another man. She certainly doesn't intend to get married again. But as the week comes to a close, she knows she's given Roman part of her heart in spite of her attempt to remain distant. And Regina seems to have fallen in love, too.

Is there hope for a second chance at love for Amanda? Or will Roman return to Ohio, and forget about the two sweet girls who have captured his heart?

Shelley Shepard Gray is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Sisters of the Heart, Seasons of Sugarcreek, Secrets of Crittenden County, and Families of Honor series. Before writing, she was a teacher in both Texas and Colorado. She now lives in Southern Ohio where she writes full time.

YOUNG ADULT AUTHORS GIVE BACK TOUR
Mac's Backs Books, Friday, June 7 at 4pm
Mac's Backs and Lake Erie Ink will co-sponsor the Young Authors Give Back Tour on Friday, June 7th from 4-6 p.m at Lake Erie Ink, 2843 Washington Blvd. in the Coventry School Building. The event features four touring writers who will conduct writing workshops for aspiring young authors and then talk about their own careers. The writers will spend 1-2 hrs discussing craft, doing writing exercises and answering questions. Workshops will be open to registrants ages 13-22 (a little younger or a little older is ok) and space is limited. The workshops are free. Call or email Mac's or Lake Erie Ink to register.

The authors are all recently published and have been writing since their teens.

Erin Bowman, author of Taken, used to tell stories visually as a web designer. Now a full-time writer, she relies solely on words. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband and when not writing she can often be found hiking, commenting on good typography, and obsessing over all things Harry Potter.

Susan Dennard is a reader, writer, lover of animals, and eater of cookies. She used to be a marine biologist, but now she writes novels–and not novels about fish, but novels about kick-butt heroines and swoon-worthy rogues. Her debut novel is Something Strange and Deadly. She lives in the Midwestern US with her French husband and Irish setter.

Sarah J. Maas, author of Throne of Glass was born and raised in New York City, but after graduating from Hamilton College in 2008, she moved to Southern California. She’s always been just a tad obsessed with fairy-tales and folklore, though she’d much rather be the one slaying the dragon (instead of the damsel in distress). When she’s not busy writing, she can be found geeking out over things like Han Solo, gaudy nail polish, and ballet.

Kat Zhang is an avid traveler, and after a childhood spent living in one book after another, she now builds stories for other people to visit. An English major at Vanderbilt University, she spends her free time performing Spoken Word poetry, raiding local bookstores, and plotting where to travel next. What's Left of Me---about a girl with two souls—is her first novel.

Mac's Backs and Lake Erie Ink are sponsoring this event. Lake Erie Ink is a writing center for children and teens located in the Coventry School. They offer a full array of programming including summer writing camps. Info at

MAC'S BOOK CLUB ~ GONE BY CATHI HANAUER
Mac's Backs Books, Wednesday, June 19 at 7:30pm
Mac's Book Club will discuss Gone by Cathi Hanauer on Wednesday, June 19th at 7:30 p.m.

For the past fourteen years, Eve Adams has worked part-time while raising her two children and emotionally supporting her sculptor husband, Eric, through his early fame and success. Now, at forty-two, she suddenly finds herself with a growing career of her own—a private nutritionist practice and a book deal—even as Eric’s career sinks deeper into the slump it slipped into a few years ago.

After a dinner at a local restaurant to celebrate Eve’s success, Eric drives the babysitter home and, simply, doesn’t come back. Eve must now shift the family in possibly irreparable ways, forcing her to realize that competence in one area of life doesn’t always keep things from unraveling in another.

Gone is an outstanding novel about change and about redefining, in middle age, everything from one’s marriage to one’s career to one’s role as a best friend, parent, and spouse. It is a novel about passion and forgiveness and knowing when to let something go and when to fight to hold on to it, about learning to say goodbye—but, if you’re lucky, not forever.

Cathi Hanauer is the author of the novels My Sister's Bones and Sweet Ruin and the editor of the New York Times bestselling essay anthology The Bitch in the House: 26 Women Tell the Truth About Sex, Solitude, Work, Motherhood, and Marriage. Her articles, essays, and/or criticism have appeared in The New York Times, Elle, O, Glamour, Self, Parenting, Whole Living, and other magazines. She lives with her family in western Massachusetts. Visit her website at CathiHanauer.com.
