About meI'm a 60-something mother and writer and once upon a time I lived in Notting Hill. But, when I hit middle age, I became invisible. So I moved to England's rural South West, where I lived for 11 years in a 300-year old house full of books that I had been collecting since I was a child. Have now moved to a town full of literary connections in the Chilterns. Less space for books but have easy access to a superb library.
About my libraryOnly a fraction on LibraryThing so far but an eclectic collection that ranges from 19th Russian novelists to books on the wildlife of South Africa. Novels, poetry and travel writing dominate.

The "Competitive Dad" story cracked me up. I could actually picture it
in my mind's eye as you wrote about it.
We have a yellow lab. She is eight months old and whilst a pain at times (because, as you know labs need their little jobs to do or they become very hyper), we adore her and she is so loving and has such a personality. We have never had a lab before and so were not prepared for the energy level. We have always had German Shepards, Springer Spaniels, or mutts. I kind of like the mutts. They usually maintain a low level of energy. But Abby (as we named her, but I really like your "The Boy" name) has caused a lot of changes around our home. We live in a very small town (village, probably to you) of about 1200 persons on a property of 2 1/2 city lots. We had fenced it years ago, but found that labs can jump very high, so we have spent the past 3 months pulling out fencing and putting up new. She never tries to run, but we also have 6 cats and for some bizarre reason Abby does think that they all wish to play with her. And if they would go over the fence, there she would go as well. So now we are finally finished with part 6 foot cedar fence and the remainder we just finished a few days ago with 5 foot beautiful black chain link and 5 gates. Not fancy, just attractive.
Well, I am certain I have bored you quite long enough. It has been my pleasure to communicate with you today.
blessings on your day.

Have you checked out our profile pictures? Yours and mine?
How very, very funny.
I am going to have to change my profile itself soon as I will be
62 in November. Funny, I don't feel any older, but the hair has a
little grey in it, the boobs are not quite so perky, the knees aren't
what they used to be; ya know--things like that change. But my
outlook on life and the things I love remain the same.
So nice of you to stop by. Thank you.
Have a lovely day and pop by any old time.

I know that you read and reviewed "Travels with Charlie"
by John Steinbeck a year ago, but I just now came across it and wanted to share with you what a beautiful review I thought you wrote. The way you put your words together somehow reminded me of the way "the man" did. It is wonderful to see him so appreciated. I think that he will only continue to grow in literary stature as time goes on. He has long been my favorite author though I have not read all of his works. But at the end of the day, I shall have done so.
Thank you again for that beautiful insight into one of his novels.
