First is something I read in Reader's Digest when I was about 10. If you can train yourself to blink at the end of every sentence, it can increase your retention as much as 80%. It took me about a week to learn to do this, and I've found it really helps to read faster because I remember much more.
Second, I used to bounce between multiple books at once. When I stopped doing that and started reading one book all the way through before starting another, I also found it was easier and faster to read. I went from reading about 150 books a year to more than double.
Third, I read ALL THE TIME when I'm not working or sleeping. So it might look like I read unusually quickly, but it's more likely because I read about 6 hours a day.
