About meI read, there for I am. A life without books is just unthinkable.

About my libraryMy library includes books about New York City (the center of the known intelligent universe IMHO), history of technology, railroads, maritime history, the Napoleanic Wars and everyone's favorite subject - food. I started adding art monographs to my library a few years ago for the joy of it and the fact I'll never be hanging any Rothko's or Sorolla's on my wall. I've bought a few books from Ursus Books in NY, who specialize in art books and prints, and the rest on-line from Amazon, Abebooks, Buy.com and a few other online sellers. Its amazing to me how the value of some of these books has gone up over the last few years. Anyway my focus is on figurative painters, Impressionism, the early Modernists and Abstract Expressionism.

So, slowly but steadily my books are taking over more and more space in my modest apartment. Getting close to buying another bookshelf but for me that's like putting another lane on a crowded highway. Traffic just expands to take over the available space. It's the same with books and bookshelves I think. To keep things from getting out of hand I do recycle much of my fiction reading at the Strand on Broadway. A few keepers but I've always been more attached to my non-fiction.

Yes-the Strand! If it was an island, I'd move there.
Thank you for accepting my friends invitation. I hope my profile gave you some new insights into Volney, Jefferson and Franco-American history. I will be glad to answer any questions you might have regarding Volney, his views, or book purchases. All Zee Best, TCW

BTW--Volney passed through NYC in 1798 during his return from the American west. He had dinner there with John Jay and Alexander Hamilton. Also, there's a famous apartment building in NYC named The Volney. Dorthy Parker died there (search Google). Also, just east of Buffalo you can find the small town of Volney, NY. I presume it's named after him.
Hi noticed that we share a lot of interesting books. Did you read Jacoby's "Freethinkers"? Masterful!
Thanks for adding me to your "Interesting Libraries". I love your photo -- nothing better than an bookcase full of good books. And you seem to know my very good friend MtnSk8tr!
Your GEORGE WA BRIDGE book looks fascinating, & yet another book to put on my "to read" list. I saw it several times when visiting NYC last March -- what an amazing structure. Oh, how I want to visit again!

I wish LT had some way to make a "wish list" because I don't want to catalog anything I don't have in my library, yet there are certain books I really want to read. I guess I'll go to amazon.com & add it to my wish list there.
Thanks for the review of FALLEN GIANTS. It is very appreciated! I'll make a point of adding it to our library ASAP. Sharing book info is yet one more reason why I love LT!

We still have quite a few climbing books to be cataloged, esp. the technical/ instructional ones, and guidebooks (a Sisyphean task, at best!). I really enjoy seeing what books others are cataloging.
