I'm glad you liked the selections. We do have a lot in common. Ayala is my married name. My husband's family is from Puerto Rico but now they live in Connecticut. We live in Atlanta. I saw you also liked to read some children/YA books. I am a school librarian so I read alot of children's books. Hope you enjoy the books and have a great new year.

Hi there

My wife has the whole Ingalls collection from her childhood, I think for a time she thought she was Anne of Green Gables. I've never read them... but then I didn't read much as a young kid, I was a late bloomer. My first book I remember reading just for fun was Eye of the World by Robert Jordan, the first of 12 books of an unfinished fantasy series. I was already 17...kind of sad, no?

I'm reading again, yay!. I've been casually reading a baseball book to get in the mood for opening day, and it has me hooked. Shadow of the Wind has made it to my "bed side" (which actually isn't next to my bed, but serves the same purpose). But, I need to give Othello a try before my wife and I see a performance next weekend, and then I have an Earlier Reviewer book coming ("A Delightful Compendium of Consolation" by Burton L. Visotzky - fascinating topic, but no clue if it will be any good or not) and I still have two books I actually meant to read in March but haven't started yet.... so, unless I'm stricken by some kind of sudden impulse (not unheard of with me), it will be awhile before I pick it up. I'll let you know when I do. I'm looking forward to it.

Hi,

Thanks for the friend invite! On a whim, I checked my library for "Little Black Riding Hood" ... no luck. So, I checked google - lots of stuff, but no books.

Time Traveler's Wife is NOT corny...well... anyway it was an absolutely wonderful book. Occasionally someone on Talk here on LT mentions they hated it. But, a lot of comments are something like "I really did not want to like this book, but I loved it anyway." Funny the complexes we have with the concepts of "literature." I recognize everything on your list, except Saramago & The Monsters of Templeton. But, I haven't read any others yet. Shadow of the Wind is on my shelf, calling. And Thirteenth Tale is on my "get from the library sometime" list. I've never read Stephen King, but I wouldn't be against picking up Duma Key - it had a nice review in my local paper.

Like you, I read a lot of variety. I've tried to focus in on one topic or style, but as soon as I do that, everything else looks suddenly looks so much better. My problem is I can't figure out what I want to read right now. I've given up on three books lately after reading over 100 pages. Work has been kind of consuming me, mentally. And my reading itch, which is so important to me, has been kind of fading or turning gray. This is weird, but I think it's just a temporary state of mind. Maybe my reading needs a rebirth of sorts. And I think this all has something to do with why I'm putting all the children's books in now.

Anyway, hope Monsters pans out for you, or something much better comes along. Have you tried Middlesex or Bel Canto?

OK, now I want that "pothead" children's book! Oh, but it's probably only in spanish. Oh well.

I'm in a strange state of mind and I don't even know what my "grownup" favorites are right now. My usual answer is "A River Runs Through It" by Norman Maclean. 'Out Stealing Horses" blew me away recently. Just to help answer your question I added the tag "favorites" to my library. (I also added "Children's Favorites"... but since most of our children's books are in, it's only a partial list). Some are very personal, others are universally good books the most people will at least like. Let me know your favorites.

I'm glad Mikel has so much input into his library, that puts his reviews in a new light :).

I love Goodnight Moon and Llama Llama Red Pajama. I wonder how my daughter would rate the books. I rate them based on how much I like them. But, she has her own opinions and some of her favorites of the moments are just painful to read. I hope my own opinions don't color hers too much.

My favorites of the moment are "How to Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?", "Eat Your Peas, Ivy Louise", "Fish is Fish"... among many many others. (in my library, sort my rating and select the "children's tag to see some - I've only just begun to enter all out children's books)

I'm curious about that freaky story book.

Can you send me an email with exactly what happened? You were on Add books, and you entered what, a title, and ISBN? Searching Amazon? A Library (which one)? Then the titles appeared on the right, and you clicked one, and it added (or didn't) to your catalog?

And is it still happening?

I am SO glad you got the other book - I didn't like to say anything earlier when you mentioned just PopCo; I thought I'd made a mistake & ordered over the limit so you didn't get both! The List of Seven is one of my favourites; the author Mark Frost co-wrote Twin Peaks with David Lynch. If you like The List of Seven, there is a sequel, The Six Messiahs.
