About meAndrea Alban (a.k.a. Andrea Gosline) was born in 1959 in Baltimore, MD but spent her childhood in San Francisco, where she still lives with her family in a garden cottage. She received her B.A. cum laude in English/Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and is currently a Masters degree candidate.

Andrea self-published her first poetry book at the age of six—a hand-lettered scroll tied with red ribbon. Years later, she is the bestselling author of three picture books: The Happiness Tree: Celebrating the Gifts of Trees We Treasure (Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan, 2008); Ten Little Wishes: A baby animal counting book (Harpercollins,2007); and January’s Child: The Birthday Month Book (Scholastic, 2007). Her forthcoming debut novel, Anya’s Echo, is loosely based on her father’s childhood as one of the Shanghai Jews, and will publish in Winter 2011 (Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan). Andrea’s inspirational parenting titles include: Little Moments of Peace (Pengun Putnam Tarcher, 2004); Welcoming Ways: Creating your baby’s welcome ceremony with the wisdom of world tradition (Cedco, 2001); and Celebrating Motherhood (Red Wheel Weiser Conari, 1999), a NAPPA Gold Award recipient.

Through her company, Ambledance Pictures and Verse, she is the co-creator and licensor of the Welcome Tiny Star Baby Journal; the Mother’s Nature Pregnancy Journal, two inspiration card boxes— Calm and Confidence for Mothers and Times to Treasure for Families, and a line of greeting cards, bookmarks, gift wrap, and photo albums for Papyrus stores.

Andrea loves to teach children about the creative process and presents her poetry workshop, accompanied by her apple tree puppet, at schools, museums, libraries and literary festivals throughout the Bay Area and beyond. She also teaches essay classes to middle school students. She serves on the faculty of Book Passage and its annual Children’s Writer Conference. She consults privately with writers of all ages to shape, polish and package their manuscripts.
