About my libraryI try to read anything and everything, and when I find a book that I really enjoy, I'll try to get a copy of everything that the author has written. I'm a particular fan of J.L. Carr.

Hi Antar,

I see that you have the book "Shell Guide to Hampshire" by John Rayner and i am trying to track a copy down. I'm not too sure how this site works, but i'm wondering if i can ask where you got it from? John Rayner is my grandfather and although we have a box of all the research he did for the book, i have never actually read it.

Any ideas of where to find a copy would be very much appreciated.

Cheers.
I too am a huge J L Carr fan, possess 7 of his novels and covet the 8th. I am fascinated by the recurrence of his characters in different novels (and out of chronological sequence!) and am contemplating doing a character index to his novels.
I have only just read for the first time The battle of Pollocks Crossing, and find it very disturbing, saddening, rather than comic -- I have put up on LT a recommendation from it to The Grapes of Wrath, and a quote about Henry F's disenchantment with America. I'm fascinated to see you list Gidner's Brief Lives of the Frontier in your library! Does the book actually exist? Do tell me more of it!

Hi,I'm the other one with "Optimists". Tony Simmons did work for us when I was at JWT and I was glad to find a copy of his book — particularly as it was inscribed. Was'nt it filmed with Peter Sellers?
Also glad to know a fellow JLCarr reader, but haven't you got "What Hetty Did"? I think he signed every copy.
