About meI am a navy veteran with 25 years SCUBA and hardhat diving experience. My childhood heroes pretty much Sea Hunt character Mike Nelson (Lloyd Bridges) and especially the famed French ocean explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Did you know he made his first goggles out of polished tortois shell? I have had the great blessing of diving cliffs, caves, wrecks, and reefs in seven oceans including the Mediterranean and Red seas. In the navy, I did ships hull maintenance (called 'husbandry')and changes propellers on nuclear submarines and large ships. I also operated an air recompression chamber.
I've lived on both coasts of the US, but now live kind'a inland in North Carolina with my wife, Patty. It's weird being so far from the ocean.
I express my interests in the American Civil War as volunteer speaker at the NC Museum of History and a member of 26th NC Troops living history group.

About my libraryI am a passionate student of history. My home library includes an 1866 book about Lincoln, another 1866 book by Alfred E. Pollock, and an 1863 pocket bible once owned by Union soldier and future doctor, James Burns Amberson, whose son would be a leader in lung cancer research with respect to cigarettes (1920s). My more modern books include subjects in the American Civil War, colonial America, biblical history, Egypt - and to keep my languages up, German and Italian editions of Ken Follett, Frederick Forsythe, and Agatha Christie [to name a few].
