About meI am an avid reader and collector. I enjoy books on art, cooking, the Great War and the Roman Empire.
About my libraryI dream every day about the library I want to build in my garage. This is a 24' x 18' x 9' space that currently has an old wood-burning fireplace in the centre and a cement floor. I want to fill three walls with floor-to-ceiling hardwood bookcases and I want natural light to pour in from skylights in the rafters.

On another note, go ahead with your dedicated library idea as soon as you can - you won't regret it. Most of my books live in a shed at the bottom of the garden. My profile picture shows part of it. It has books on three and a quarter sides, windows and door on the rest of the fourth side and three skylights - so, very similar to your plan.

Anyway, thanks for your interest. I will reciprocate, for what that's worth. 8-)

Re the Great War - have you read 'Tip and Run' (about the African Theatre) and 'The White War' (about the Italian theatre)
Both extremely interesting books :)
Cheers

I have recommendations, but finding the books may be hard, since most are rather old.
The Enemy Below - D.A. Rayner (it was made into a movie in the 50s)
A Sailor of Austria - John Biggins (WWI)
Sharks and Little Fish - Wolfgang Ott (WWII U-Boat)
The Bedford Incident - Mark Rascovich (also a movie, not really about a sub, but involves one)
If you are interested in non-fiction, then there are too many to list. If you could tell me what period you are interested in I could narrow it down.

I do hope that last Sunday was the last day I had to shovel snow! Otherwise, things are starting to get warmer here. Still about 2-3' of snow, but the sun is warm and I can almost imagine reading on the deck.
Lots of spring skiing in the Rockies and lots of happy skiers.
Finishing Imperium by Robert Harris, working through Shadows of the Mind by Roger Penrose, but most important of all re-orging my big bookshelf and setting to building a new set of shelves to catch some overflow. Yippee!
Hope all is well out your way.

Thanks for the comment about my profile picture. I don't actually remember where I got it. I have friends that know what a book fanatic I am, and they send me really cool book/library graphics. I switch the pictures from time to time.
Good luck on building that library. I have always wanted one myself. I live in a 600 square foot house.... not nearly enough room for my books!!!

I dream of my perfect library too - I just live in rooms full of books, including teetering towers of them that tend to tumble from time to time. A good way of rediscovering something you'd forgotton at the bottom of a TBR pile I guess!
Seasons greatings and plenty of reading time!
Kind regards
Caroline
