I'm sorry that I cannot reply in German. I studied it in high school and college, but unfortunately have lost much of it over the years. As to Fromkin's book, you will want to pay especial attention to the concluding chapters on the "cause" of World War I. I also have a copy of Sidney B. Fay's two-volume work, the Origins of the World War. Originally published in 1928, my edition 1966. Fromkin refers to Fritz Fischer's 1967 book, Germany's Aims in the First World War as an important addition to our understanding of the subject. The English edition cited in Fromkin is 1967, but that may be a translation of his 1961 book Griff nach der Weltmacht: die Kriegszielpolitik des Kaiserlichen Deutschland, 1914–18, 1961 [source = Wikipedia].

I have long had an interest in the "causes" of war, and not just World War I. The "causes" of the Iraq War are of current interest, with the question as to the extent that the Bush Administration was influenced by the desire to secure Iraq's oil. After all, Cheney worked for Halliburton, and he was a major influence on Bush.
Your list of favorite authors has a similarity with mine. I noted a book in your collection by Niall Ferguson, Der falsche Krieg; Der erste Weltkrieg un das 20. Jahrhundert. I have not seen that title in English. I have several other books by him. Do you know if it was published in English under another title? Have you read David Fromkin's Europe's Last Summer?
Thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries.
