About meMy mother said I taught myself to read when I was three years old by looking at newspaper headlines. She should have stopped me or bought a different paper!

About my libraryWhat can I say? I'm hopelessly addicted to reading and my surroundings bear witness to the strength of that addiction. I walk very carefully on the sagging floorboards while dodging the tottering towers of books that try to trip me up at every turn. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hi
Yes I can't believe Murder One will be closing - what a tragedy. But I think they are trying to keep the online part functioning, it's not the same though is it? Also one of my other favourites, my local (very small chain)independent bookshop Mahers is closing in February. I'm devastated. It'll be getting to a point soon when all there will be left is Waterstone's & Amazon.
Hope you don't mind but I'm adding you to my Interesting Libraries - you list quite a few of my favourite authors as well as particular books.
We uniquely share the Lysistrata of Aritstophanes. I saw a review in about 1968 and to my amazement my mother produced it for my birthday. Facsimile, one of about 500 in a lined solander. Cheers
I see you already have the book I would have recommended, Kimono by Liza Dalby. I'm primarily interested in the Heian period rather than the Edo period, so I don't know if my recommendations will interest you, but I quite like both The World of the Shining Prince by Ivan Morris and Uncovering Heian Japan by Thomas Lamarre. If you're more interested in the naughty side of things, Pink Samurai is a pretty decent overview of sexual mores in Japan, and for a more specialized view, I recommend Cartographies of Desire, which is a history of male/male sexuality in Japan. Was there something specific you were interested in?
We only share one book, yes, but what a book it is. Actually, I have stacks of mystery novels, fantasy novels, gay fiction, Tudor and Stuart drama, etc. around too; they're just easier for me to keep track of than manga, so I entered the manga first.
Hi,
Found you in my "shared authors'. I love the Judge Dee books. Mine are currently in a box somewhere in my extremely hot garage, Arizona in August is not a joke. I used to buy the Poppy Z. Brite books for my son. I'm addicted to Laurie King and Carol O'Connell. We share a lot of books and our tastes seem to be all over the place. I own one copy of lots of authors, tried 'em, didn't care for 'em and won't buy anymore without a really, really good recommendation from someone. Just wanted to say "hi".
Discovered your library via artymiss - very heartening to discover someone who likes Jane Gaskell *and* Judge Dee !!
