About meIn an effort to make myself 'better read' in addition to my usual 'reads a lot' I began to read through the 2003 BBC list of top 100 books. Not because I particularity rate this list or like lists in general but I see it as a useful tool for encouraging me to read more widely in 2009.
Typical of the first casualty of war; the plan, has gone awry. I’m one of life’s easily distracted but enthusiastic pupils, so I read one Russian novel, then I’m off .....must read all I own....lets buy many more, then, be it Rushdie and India or Dickens and some decrepit English city, I’m again running down that alley......
This entire alley running is fun; as 2009 starts to close it has seen me read more widely, the original task, a useful tool to my mind, has enriched my life.
Tolstoy, Rushdie, Steinbeck, Dickens, Dostoevsky and others are newly met fellow travellers along my road, can’t wait to see who is loitering around the corner.

Just read your succinct review of "On The Beach" and loved it.
Captures my feeling for the book as well.
Nicely done.
