yeah I'm just getting into all that whole audrey hepburn thing, becasue I thought I was concentrating too hard on the actors of hollywood and not the women. I love marilyn monroe and the mystery of how she died too. Can you beleive she was involved with the kennedys? She isn't such a dumb blonde as she makes out in her movies. I love some like it hot with her and tony curtis in it. Gene kelly is incredibly handsome and I wish i could sing in the rain with him. I'm just going to see some of his movies soon.
Cecelia ahern is worth checking out and marian keyes too.
Hi Ruth,

My challenge to you is 'Monster Love' by Carol Topolski. It is a difficult book to read due to the subject matter but it is one I found compelling. Hope this is ok, if not let me know and I will choose something else.

Hi Ruth. My new challenge to you is The Weight Of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf. Hope that's ok. Would you mind choosing another one for me please, the Edgar Jones book has been a challenge for this year and I recently abandoned it. ( I think I put a note on there) Sorry to confuse matters.

Caroline
Hi Ruth

Your my first person I'm picking for in the challenge and the book I'm picking for you is The Girls by Lori Lansens. I read this back in 2007 and thought it was fantastic so I'd really love to see a review from you on this one.

Hope you enjoy it and thanks for everything, you really are a sweetie and I consider you a friend now not a book acquaintance.

Thanks for the challenge Ruth. My challenge to you is Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure - not a great literary read but it is hilarious so I hope you enjoy it. I saw the live show as well and think he is brilliant.

Hi Ruth
You are being organised aren't you?! It's one that has intrigued me for a while, but needed this sort of nudge to get round to it, so thanks for the challenge!

Goaded into action by all your activity, my challenge to you is "Bleak House". Comfortably one of my top 5 all-time reads, I hope you get even half the enjoyment I did out of it. And if you haven't watched the recent BBC series,do treat yourself to it afterwards, as it's one of the Beeb's best efforts at putting book to screen. Enjoy!

Will

PS Can I challenge you to read Lionel Shriver's The Post-Birthday World and I'll try to read it too!

Did meant to ask you id you wnet to see Carolyn Flynn and how did it go. Did think about you as I was sailing away on the Titanic, that was good too !

Best wishes and happy reading

Hi Ruth ~

Great review on "A Fine Balance." Isn't it a fantastic book? I was hooked from the first sentence and could NOT put it down. So compelling, so gut wrenching ....the characters so well drawn they were like my friends I came to care about. Loved it! Glad you enjoyed it, as well. We will most certainly have to read another book by Rohinton Mistry. :) "See" you soon ....take care.
Hi Ruth
Not sure if you are interested but Mark Billingham will be at West Bromwich central library on Tuesday 28th September. If so you need to phone the library and reserve a place then pay on the door ( £5). More details on Mark Billinghams own web site.

Best wishes and happy reading

Hi Ruth ~ We've "met" at the bookclub forum. Like over there ....your library here is fantastic, so thought I would add you as an interesting library. Love your collection and especially love your reviews. Happy reading ....
Hi Ruth
Just read your review on Dracula. Not what I expected from such a classic. I am still keeping mine for Halloween.

I went to our book group last night and we have been invited to an author event at kingswinford Library, 22nd September. Carolyn Flynn is giving a talk and we have just discussed her book What Was Lost. I can't make it as I am going to see Quarry Bank Operatic Society's musical Titanic. One of my fellow members is going to pick me up a book with a signature if available.

Have a good bank holiday and happy reading

Tina xx
Hi Ruth

Noticed you are reading Dracula. I have this on my TBR and have been keeping it for my Halloween reads. I have always been put off reading this due to the old Hammer films with Christopher Lee. I shall look forward to reading your review of this book. We had a day trip recently to Whitby which as you know is Dracula country which was great !

Hope you enjoy the book

Tina xxx
Hi Ruth again

Thanks for the reply. Hope you enjoy the book group at the library. I attend Sedgley. I used to go to the morning group but changed to the new evening one (Thursdays) fits in better with work. Have only just discovered Libraything and think it is a fab site. I swap my unwanted books on www.readitswapit.co.uk and track their journey using bookcrossing. Swapping books is great fun.

Tina xx
Hi there

Added you as an interesting library. Nice collection fo books and some excellent reviews. Notice you are not too far away from me. Do you attend the reading group at kingswinford library. I go to the one at my local and some what we have read have been awful but some have been really good.

Don't give up on this author.... I wasn't too sure about Memory of Running either; and then had the occasion to read Traveler, which I loved; I kept telling my husband "I know these guys!; you know these guys!" but of course we didn't.... so don't toss him out just yet please
ruth i challenge you to the bone collector jeffery deaver

bl
Hmmm, this was really quite interesting - the last few pages change my total understanding of the book!!! I now need to re-read it knowing what I may or may not now possibly know!!!!! I can't say any more Ruth as you haven't read it yet. I'm feeling frustrated because I have so many questions I need to 'chat through' !!!!! -x-
Hi Ruth, I'm upto pg66 of Life of Pi. The 3 religious leaders have all met Pi and his parents and are arguing over who's religion is THE religion. It's funny, I'm not sure what to make of it. I had to really stick at it to start with and now I'm really enjoying it. It strikes me as the kind of book that you could read again and agian and each time get something different from it. I really wish I could get a good chunk of quiet time to absorb myself fully in it. I studied philosophy and Hinduism at A-Level so a lot of it actually means something to me!! -x-

Hi there, we share Andrea Camilleri, Ian Rankin, Ayn Rand, Alexander McCall Smith and Peter Robinson habits. I had just gotten on LT a few months ago and asked for suggestions and got a bunch of them, which is how I got into Inspector Montalbano. Maybe next time I'll just ask you for advice. great to meet you.
More than a member, I own it.. so get back soon! LOL Hope you had a lovely honeymoon. :)
Just saying hi, as we share a few books. :)
Hiya

Yeh as soon as I asked that question I wondered what I would answer if someone asked me the same thing - as you say hard to know - I do go on recommendations quite a lot and often find myself enjoying books that have won the Orange prize bit it is surprising how much influence a book cover can have!!!....perhaps wrongly so but there you go!

Just picked up Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry to read - how about you?

Milesy
Do you have a wishlist on bookmooch.com?
I love your tags! "Over-rated", "inferior to his later work", et al...
Hi Ruth,

Yeah I'm surprised as well. I bought it in Bangkok and read it on an overnight train to Chang Mai about 10 years ago and could'nt put it down.
)

Paul
Hi Ruth

I am fairly new to this site so good to hear from you!

So what made you decide to read some of the 83 books we share?

Cheers

Milesy
Hello Ruth,
I have picked up on you through your review of Margaret Atwoods's 'The Robber Bride'(like most Librythingers we have a lot of current fiction in common) this led me to your other reviews and i wanted to tell you I fully agree with your comments on the superiority of 'Lucky' by Margaret Seabold. It struck me as a particularly stunningly honest recount of something quite awful to happen to a young girl. Beyond her ordeal, I was left with a pretty bad mood considering the role of the American legal system in such cases and its determination to win out at any cost. This skewering of where human concern should reach out to help is depressing, as time passes we should be raising our conciousness and to be fair we have, but there is a way to go yet.
best regards,
Freddy.
