About meI'm a film critic based in the UK, just outside London. I'm the author of two books: MONTE HELLMAN: HIS LIFE AND FILMS (McFarland, 2003) and ABEL FERRARA: THE MORAL VISION (FAB Press, 2004). I write regularly for SIGHT & SOUND, VIDEO WATCHDOG, THE DARK SIDE, and the SENSES OF CINEMA website. I have also contributed to the 2008 edition of THE INTERNATIONAL FILM GUIDE, and Chris Fujiwara's THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK: MOVIES. I recorded commentary tracks (in collaboration with R Dixon Smith) for the Masters of Cinema DVDs of F W Murnau's NOSFERATU and TABU. I appear in the documentaries A SHORT FILM ABOUT THE LONG CAREER OF ABEL FERRARA and ODYSSEY IN ROME, and can be seen interviewing Christopher Lee on the VCI and Salvation DVDs of THE CITY OF THE DEAD. I have also written DVD sleeve notes for SHOCK CORRIDOR, THE NAKED KISS, FULL METAL JACKET, THE DRILLER KILLER and LA NOTTE. I was on the jury at the Oldenburg Film Festival in 2007.
