I am a genealogy hobbiest of some 30 years with most of my ancestors arriving in VA in the 1600s or traveling up the Cape Fear River in the 1700s. My current brick wall is the WILLIAMS line of Wayne County. On a website for the BRIGHT line, there is mention of a volume of the NCGS titled "Fee Tail 1751-1774" by John H. Oden III which relates to the WILLIAMS AND HERRING lines. Are you familiar with this article?
I hope you have met with big success on this group. North Carolina supplied many of the settlers for the "West" in the 1800s and their descendents often have the answers we who still live here need to complete our research.
