About meMy Summer TBR list consists mostly of new books (as of July 1, 2009):
The Lost City of Z
The Accidential Billionaires
NYPD Confidential
The Education of an American Dreamer
The Housing Boom and Bust

I'll start there and let you know what else I add.

About my libraryMostly modern-day fiction. I'm trying to read more of the classics and more non-fiction. I try to find books with characters who interest me (both in fiction and nonfiction). I often ask, "Is this someone with whom I would want to have coffee?"

But what I am starting to value the most in a book is how thought-provoking the book is (both writing style and topic). Of course, I enjoy those light, easy, mindless reads once in a while to escape realty. Lately, however, I'm drawn to more powerful, moving books.

Hi;
Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.
hugs and looking forward to hearing from you,
belva
Hi Bridget,

Thanks for the info about the Decatur Book Festival. Hopefully I'll be able to go next year.

Today I accidentally stumbled across a new Writers Series taking place at Ivy Hall in Midtown, not far from where I live (1600 Peachtree). I posted information about Ivy Hall and the five lectures on LibraryThing local. The speakers include Colson Whitehead, Augusten Burroughs and Margaret Atwood, so I'll try to go to all of them if I can. The Ivy Hall events web site is http://www.scad.edu/ivyhall.

Cheers,
Darryl
Hello Bridget...thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries list! I was flattered to see I'm the first one. *preen*

Enjoy LT, I'll see you 'round the Thing

Hi Bridget...Your name keeps popping up on the Talk threads so thought I'd visit your page and was delighted to "meet" your two very cute dogs. I had Lucky (my Yellow Lab) as my Profile pic until a few weeks ago when I changed it to me(!)in front of Louise Erdrich's bookstore in Minneapolis. I see you loved Plague of Doves. I have read all of her books and love how the characters and stories of the Ojibwe tribe in S. Dakota are woven into her fabulous writing.

Cheers! And a belated welcome to LT. ~Donna~
If you're going to read more McEwan, go read Atonement. I want to recommend it to everyone at the library where I work who asks for a good book.
Hi, Bridget- I found your thread and left a message there. I'm in the 50, it's called Mark's 50 Book Challenge. I haven't posted in a few days, so it might be on the 2nd page. I love it that you have just read both Marilynne Robinson's most recent books. I finished "Home" a few weeks ago. She's such a good writer! You should love "The Lost City of Z". It's an excellent read! thanks for the message and I hope to see you around!
Mark
Thanks for the note on my profile page. You are very kind and I hope that the books you've added to your TBR live up to the things I said about them once you read them! You've added a couple to my look out for list also.
