About meI wish I had more time to spend with books. I read daily, but all too often it is only for a short time before sleep. While traveling, however, I read incessantly. Many of my favorite days have been spent with a book at our family cottage in northern Michigan.

About my libraryIt's interesting to see the tag clouds of my library develop. I still need to refine many of them (so many are just "fiction" which doesn't narrow it much), but they start to show the eclectic interests I have. I wish I knew of the perfect way to categorize those big, sweeping sagas that just transport you to another place and make pulling yourself back to reality so difficult.

Hi Kirk,

I recently became the chair of the Library Committee at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh. If you are ever in the mood to weed your library we'd like to have any of your items that might be of GLBT interest. We're looking for books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, directories, etc. If you send us duplicate items we'll put them in our book sale. We're also starting a lending collection of adult (XXX) DVDs and video. Send those to us if you are so inclined.

We'll reimburse you for your costs if you ship via US Mail. We'll also send you a letter acknowledging the value of your contribution for tax purposes.

Check out the GLCC Library here on LT and become a fan of the GLCC Library on FaceBook.

I hope you'll consider donating to the GLCC Library of Pittsburgh.

Thanks.

Dan

PS

If you can't donate to us please donate to your local GLBT Library. I'm sure they need your help too.
Noticed you liked Ordinary People, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family struggling with death and mental illness. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hi Cageym:
Thanks for adding me to your friends group. Comparing tag lists, it seems we have quite a few in common. Art, Gay Fiction and Cooking - what more could you ask for?
I'll give the award for most compelling to _Critical Injuries_ by Joan Barfoot. I have a complex opinion of _The Vintner's Luck_. It could have been so much more, but I still find it unforgettable.

I really enjoyed the Josh Lanyon mysteries: _Fatal Shadows_, et al, but I put them in the category of light reading.
Hey Kirk,

Thanks for adding me to your interesting library list. I'm flattered. I see you just added a book by James Kirkwood. I think I read everything he ever wrote when I was in high school. I liked them all but I loved P.S. Your Cat is Dead. Wow, you just added Marathon Man which I also read in HS. Also read Heart-Sounds while in HS or College. Nostalgia is one thing, now your making me feel my age.

What are you reading now? I'm just finishing up One Night Stand by Ben Tyler. It's much better than I expected. The sex is good and it's actually very well written. Nothing serious, mind you, but well done. Keep in touch.

Dan
Hi Kirk,

I'm one of the guys who recommended Light Fell.

Wow, we have a lot of titles in common. Looking at some of those I'd guess we're both about the same age. (somewhere between 40 and ... death).

Try Light Fell when you can. You should be able to get it at Unabridged. I also recently finished The Magician's Assistant by Ann Patchett. It was very good. I read her Bel Canto a few years ago (very good) and an LT friend recommended Assistant.

Happy reading.

Dan
Hello Kirk, thanks for the useful caveat. I wonder if it's not better to start with audiobooks on many authors of period fiction. It seems somehow more personal, more immediate, to have the book delivered by voice, and that's often what seems to prevent people I know from appreciating period fiction.

Cheers

Hi there CAGEYM, I see you have Aubrey and Maturin books. Where do you fall on the recommendation spectrum with these books? I'm not so sure I want to start the series, since I hear such passionate advocacy coupled with tepid non-recommendations from the non-sailors.

Please to advise, yes?

Cheers

Hi and thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries list! I think of that as a compliment of the highest order.

I see we share quite a lot of books, 45 of your current catalog of 748. And some of my favorites, too...Freckles was a childhood love; The Sparrow is an all-time winner; Uncle Mame was such a treasure, to discover more about "Patrick Dennis" as a real person (well, a real persona anyway) instead of a character.

Cheers and see you around the Thing
Richard
