About meI like people, food, animals. Furthermore, I'm a teacher of different things. Currently, I'm developing curriculum for adult literacy. I am a vegan and I enjoy cooking greatly. I live in Austin, though I've just returned from my new second home, Ecuador. I'm very much into self-empowerment through student-centered education, metacognition, and empathy. I also play hockey.

About my libraryLots of school books, lots of satire. Love Vonnegut, love Pynchon, love Brautigan, Kesey, DeLillo, Hemingway (though I think he's a prick). As far as school stuff, I love Freire, Giroux, hooks, Ayers, Macedo. I also enjoy sociological issues in both fiction and nonfiction form. Many of the books I have yet to read, although I get excited just thinking about them.
I think words, and books especially, have a metaphysical power unlike anything else in the universe.

Noticed you liked The Bluest Eye, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Ooh, I wish you hadn't seen my incredibly creative username. Haha! Well, I made it, and I have been officially hired as a fourth grade teacher at a tiny school in central Austin. I'm excited! So things are...busy. I'm behind. How are those west-coast schools you've been checking out?
Is it a mere coincidence that we have similar Education books AND Women's Ways of Knowing? Hello CAM?
