About meLove books and reading and learning about new places, people and things. I enjoy classical music, also jazz and some contemporary.

About my libraryMy collectible library began with vintage classics that originally belonged to and were read by my mother when she was growing up. I've added my own titles as I've read them over the years. My nonfiction books reflect my various special interests and also serve as mementos of places I've lived or visited.

Cheryl, thanks for adding me to your "Interesting Libraries" constellation! I'm in extremely good company, I see.

Cheers
Hi Again Cheryl,

Quick question - right now my wife is blasting through Dana Stabenow's "Kate Shugak" series and I'm looking for something similar to follow up with - any suggestions?
Hi Cheryl,

I just wanted to say thanks for commenting on my post about reading authors in publication order. I've actually found with the two mystery series I've ready - The Spenser books by Robert B. Parker, and The Brother Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters, reading them in order made a HUGE difference as they often refer back to previous books and sometimes even use previous villains, locations, etc.

Currently, what is your favourite mystery series?

Kirk "Bookmonkey" MacLeod
Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries connections. I see we're both members of 50-Somethingers, historical fiction and crime... too. I thought your name sounded familiar. I also see we really have 71 books in common -- Anne Perry being the biggie. You know I've read every Pitt book and am saving Monk, don't ask me why, just incase I run out of neo-Victorian mysteries I guess!

Regards,
Dayna
Hi Cheryl-- Thanks for adding me to your library list. It always makes me happy to be found interesting, or at least my books anyway, LOL. I am actually surprised by how LITTLE our books overlap! So, that begs the questions, how did you find me? And why do you like my library? Off to peruse your books...Happy reading.
I'm a little over half way through with "Stories In Stone: Travels Through Urban Geology." It's pretty interesting. The book features examples of rocks used in buildings (i.e. Brownstone) and also connects geology with architecture, poetry, etc. It's changing the way I look at buildings. My background is in engineering, but I'm enjoying learning more about geology. Best...Harry
Thanks Cheryl for the attention. If you have any points of discussion regarding my books, etc. (or any books, etc.)please don't hesitate. Best...Harry
Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries! How very special to be noticed by the books that you read. You have quite an impressive library. I must write down some of the titles because they look very interesting, and I have not read them. I am impressed that you read "....And Ladies of the Club." In my own circle of local book friends, only one has read that book.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Now, I am going to write down some titles!

All the very best,
Irene
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries. (Sorry so long to respond, I've been off-line, traveling). You have a very interesting library, too, and are much more organized than I am in documenting your mystery series books!
I kind of gathered that from the reviews I read. I did find 6 of her books, but not the first in the series. Probably makes sense to order from Amazon or Alibris what the library doesnt have and wait to read them in order. It's not like I don't have anything else to read. I did bring home "Find Me" but will take your advice and put it aside. I skimmed enough to know I will enjoy this writer.

I have fond memories of the Route 66 TV series too. With the recent death of Gail Storm, I was reminded how much I also loved "My Little Margie". Growing up in the mid- west, the idea of living in NYC seemed ever so glamorous. It's probably why, in part, I eventually wound up on the east coast.
Oooh! Thanks for the recommendations, Cheryl. I've added them to the TBR as they are right down my alley.
Hi Catgwinn

I am honored that you have added my library to your list of interesting libraries. What, in particular, have you found interesting in my lbrary? It looks like you love to cook and bake. Are you also an active quilter?
Hello Catgwin--

Thanks for making my library an interesting library. I'm very flattered. (Sorry to be so long in getting back to you).

I see you've just rated Hearts and Hands: The Influence of Women and Quilts on American Society. Are you a quilter?

I also see we're both in What are You Reading Now?, so I'm sure I'll see you around.

Deborah
It's great to hear that he's writing again. I look forward to more of our favorite antiquarian book dealer detective.
Hi Catwinn, after you said that you were a fan of John Dunning, I had to add your library to my list. I've read everything he's written so far, except for his early book Scout. However, I know I'll get around to it sooner rather than later. Happy Booking!
Hi Catwinn, this is one of the many reason I love LT, meeting interesting people from all over. I have travelled throughout the Western USA but have never been to Texas. And Texas is a place I'd "dearly love" to visit! Hopefuly one day I will make it. See you on the threads! Judy
Hello Catwinn,
Many thanks for adding me to your list of Interesting Libraries.
It was kind of you to bring the John Dunning series to my attention, albeit if you go through my library (no easy matter as I well know) you will see that I have them listed and in fact like the series very much.
The link to his site is useful however,so thanks for that.
Anyway it is great of you to get in touch.
All the best from the English Midlands.
Hi Catgwinn. Thanks for adding me to your list of interesting libraries. I see we have a love of mysteries and historical fiction in common, and you have a great list of children's classics like Little Women and Heidi that I loved as a girl. I always enjoy pawing through your library on the "Chose A Book" Thread. Happy reading! Judy
Thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries! Jan
I found Stonehenge a very calm place, it put me in touch with the past in a very powerful way (bearing in mind that I was 8 when I went there) But at Avebury, even on a sunny day (and it was) I felt a presence of evil and death. I'm not particularly fey, but I do have a sensitivity to places. Did you ever go to Clearbury Ring near Salisbury? (several good websites if you're interested - I recently did a search for a friend) It's a Saxon hill fort that the Romans sacked (archaeologists have traced the trajectory of the ballista bolts - aren't they amazing?)and if ever there was a place where 'echo, whatever is asked her, answers "death"' this is it! Beautiful views, lovely, flowery grassland, and terror. Sorry to sound so melodramatic!
Hi
Avebury gives me the creeps - all the hair stands up on the back of my neck - and I never want to go there again!!
Hey CAtgwinn
I'm flattered that you've marked my library 'interesting'. You obviously like England, did you live here for long? I went to school in Salisbury, and spent a lot of time in the Cathedral and at Old Sarum. I even went to Stonehenge before they fenced it off - an experience I treasure.
Have you come across Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beaumont? I found it an excellent complement to Rebecca.
Best wishes,
G
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries! We certainly have a diverse set of books in common.
Thank you for adding me to your list of interesting libraries. I see that of the books in common we both seemed to have rated them very highly - same tastes, though I'm not a mystery reader. I see you have a wonderful book in your library that I used to have and my son loved "Good Dog, Carl" We loved that one when he was little!
That sounds like a military life. I was born and raised in Florida, lived in other states, then came back for what I hope is my last job before I die. I've been to England several times and of course am a Jane Austen fan, spent a week in Bath once. I have no patience with the library, they never have what I want when I want it and now that I have enough money I buy them, then resell.
Thanks for adding me on your interesting library list. My library is so diverse, I wonder what interested you? I do have some cat books, also lots of mystery/thriller.
What a small world! I seem to meet a lot of people that either lived in Grinnell or attended Grinnell College where I work.

Sharon
Thanks for the post about my kitties. It would be so boring not having them around!

Have you read Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron (http://www.librarything.com/work/6829415...)? It is such a heart-warming book about a kitten that was dumped in a book drop at the Spencer Public Library in Spencer, Iowa and lived in the library for 19 years.

I live in Grinnell, Iowa so it really touches home for me.

Enjoy!
Sharon
Thank you for including my library in your list. I see that you have many interesting titles on your shelves as well; several of which I am making note of to read in the future.
Best wishes :)
Hi, and thanks for adding my library to your list. I see that we are in several of the same groups, so we'll run into each other often!

Hi,

Thank you for adding me to your interesting library list. I see that you are part of The Coffee Trader book group, as am I. I look forward to sharing thoughts and ideas with you. See you there!

Happy reading,
Lorie
I'm in Birmingham which isn't so bad, lots of history. I have a love hate relationship with London but I do love Yorkshire, beautiful and wild in parts.
Thanks for adding me as an interesting library. I just took another look at yours and found The Last Enchantment by Mary Stewart, I read that years and years ago and remember I loved it, so thanks - Mary Stewart has been added to my authors to read pile. It's great when you find an old favourite you'd forgotten.
Hi Catgwinn,
Thanks for visiting my library--I'm glad you liked it! My cat picture is Scamper, and I had to say goodbye to her just a few weeks ago. I'm glad you got to see her, I've been thinking of changing my picture, because it almost makes me cry everytime I see it:( She was my reading and writing companion, often from her perch atop that wall.

I find your library very interesting also, and have added a few of your titles to my wish list. Love Among the Butterflies looks especially good...

Thanks for your note,
~~robbieg
Thanks for adding me to your interesting library list^^
Hello, and thanks for the compliment on my boys! They are awesome cats, very good boys, although spoiled terribly. I don't know what we'd do without them.

Nice to meet you and enjoy LT! Stop in at some of the forums and chat with us...

~ Julie aka "porchy"
I am flattered you added my library to your interesting library list!
Hi and thanks for considering my library interesting! I'm still working slowly at adding my books here, so feel free to come back and browse for new additions! I have boxes to go!
I absolutely love "The Library!" ALA was selling posters of the cover a few years ago and between cats, books and red hair I couldn't find a better piece of art.
We will certainly enjoy browsing each other's libraries! I'll get on my search for Miss Jaster right away - I'm so glad you read my profile!
Thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries list. I see you like Torey Hayden. I love her too. I will be in touch. Hubby came in and wants me to do useful things so must go now.
Jenny
I am greatly honored to be added as one of your interesting libraries. You are the first to designate my library as such. Thanks!

We have more in common than books. I notice that you are from McKinney. I grew up in Plano. I haven't lived there since the 70s and my parents left there in the late 80s after retiring and moving to another part of Texas. All of my family is in Texas, so I make it back once or twice a year. I was just there this past August. Can't stay away from that Texas heat! Please keep in touch.

Teresa
You're the second person who likes what iI have read - Wow.

I notice Louisa May Alcott on your list. She and I share a birthday, though I am a bit younger!! I have also read all the L. M. Montgomery books, though they are not as yet in my library - but thanks for reminding me that they should get there. My daughter loved the miniseries of Anne of Green Gables and we boought the whole set. I finished them; I am not sure she did.

Enjoy the library.
Hi Catgwinn,

Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries list. I've added you too. I've been having terrible trouble with my internet connection recently, so although I've read a lot more books of late, it's been very frustrating not being able to get on Librarything to see what other people are saying!
Hello Catgwinn,

Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries list, I shall return the compliment, and come back to your profile to check out your books. Looks like you like cats, too?

I must agree with Booksloth's comment previously, about being able to buy books faster than read them!! There are some I bought over ten years ago, and still haven't read. Ridiculous! Oh well, at least it means there's always delight in store...

Cheers

Sue
They sound interesting I will add them to my wish list. Thanks.
Penny
Hello Catgwinn,

Thank you for adding my library to your interesting list, I see you are a fan of the Bronte's. While I love Jane Eyre, I think The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. Have you read it and what did you think of it?

-TT
Hi, yes you are right I have read Dunning's books and really liked them. I wish he would write more in the series. Any other ideas?
Penny
Hello! Thank you for considering my library interesting, it is flattering indeed.
I think that the building of a library is a real labour of love, it takes a long time and a lot of patience. LibraryThing is a wonderful place, don't you think so? I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and that you will meet many great friends.
Happy reading!

Paola :-))
Thanks for the compliment! McKinney has (or at least used to have) a great cat-toy store.
Hi, this is a rather belated thanks for deeming my library an interesting one (I've been away for a few weeks). I think it's interesting but don't always imagine it would be interesting to someone else:-) Hope you are enjoying your time on LT as much as I am. I have just met in person my oldest LT friend who lives 10,000 miles from me! Best, Lois
Cambridge must have been a wonderful place for bookshops! Here in Plymouth we have two branches of Waterstones and one small independent shop. Between them they pretty much cater for everything though I do tend to get most of my books online these days.

I like what you said about rediscovering your books as you list them on LT. I found just the same - ended up with a massive pile of 'I really must read these again'. I never did get round to rereading many of them as I can buy so much faster than I can read, and there will never be enough time in the world for me to read even a tiny fraction of the books I want to read. I have made a vow lately to do at least one reread every month, and I've managed to stick with it so far.
What Booksloth said! Drop by any time. And thanks for the compliment. Sometimes I feel "interesting" only to my cat!
Just wanted to say thanks for adding me to your 'interestings'. I think there's pretty much something for everyone in there. Do feel free to have a good wander round any time you feel like it!
