Hi Chellieanne,

Thanks for responding. I have lived in the same house for 2 years now (very settled for me)!!! Yes, before I worked for a real estate developer that moved me around, I averaged around 4 years per house. It is a bit unsettling to move 3,000 miles away from your family and friends (I moved from FL to California), but it can also be an exciting adventure and you learn to quickly build yourself a community. It helps to have a dog to take daily to the dog park and dog beach (I lived in San Diego) I can't imagine 40 years in the same place, although there must be some level of peace to being so stable!!!

I do not knit although I just recently got into Ann Hood (thanks for the reminder) and loved her book The Knitting Circle, and also the memoir aout losing her daughter. Also, my best friend just started knitting lessons. I heard it is very calming, so probably I should look into it, I tend to be a little scattered and hyper.

What State do you live in now? I love Sante Fe, New Mexico and Sedonna, AZ so good luck if you decide to move to either of those States. I am actually trying to sell a condo in Scottsdale, AZ (suburb of Phoenix) at the moment!!!

Well take good care and happy reading!!!!

Anna
Hi, I jut wanted to say hello. I am brand new to this site and still trying to learn my way around it, but saw that we have over 50 books in common! I was just curious if the 2,000+ all books that you have listed are a current collection? Or a total of all the books you have read?

I used this site as a way to catalog the books that I currently have on hand. I used to move on average of once a year with my job, so I have given away countless boxes of books to libraries and friends. Being a book collecter and having a nomadic lifestyle are not a very good fit!!!! But I am super impressed that you have a 2,000 book collection!

I hope you are having a great day!

Peace,
Anna
Hi Chellieanne,
Great to hear from you. As for learning to spin, all you need is a spindle on a drop of some kind. You can make your own using wood or other materials, like clay for the weight. Someone even made one out of an apple with a crochet hook through it. Here is a link to a page that shows how to do it: http://www.mielkesfarm.com/spndl_inst.ht... And another one that has some nice flash animations on it: http://www.joyofhandspinning.com/HowToDr...

I saw someone once who used a real long stick through the weight so that one end rested on the ground and she just rolled it against her lap while sitting in a chair. I have a spinning wheel I got back in 1976 from Canada. It is a lot more technical and you have to keep an eye on it that the wheel doesn't warp or it will throw off the drive band. Very irritating! But when it works, it is a wonderful way to get into a really great inner space of happiness.

Thanks for telling me about ravelry. I never heard of it before. Will check it out. I went ahead and asked for an invite, so will join asap. Looks really good.

As for suggesting a book about ancient cultures, what is your interest? Do you like historical novels or alternative history (I see you are reading Hancock). Are you fascinated by the weird spiritual stuff of their ancient religions? My personal fascination is Ancient Egypt. I also find the Maya quite interesting with their intricate calendar. Oh yes, I also like the Huna, the shamans from Hawaii. If you read about them from Max Freedom Long, he thinks they are like a lost tribe from Egypt or something equally exotic.

Better close. I envy you your climate right now!

God bless,
drj
Hi Chellieanne,
We have 85 books in common! I see you like knitting, I am a crochet person myself. I also do a lot of sewing. It is my favorite artform. Do you by any chance raise sheep? I am always looking for a good resource for my spinning wheel. I see we also share an interest in spirituality -- going beyond the bounds of organized religion to direct contact with the Divine. My favorite time period to explore in that realm is Ancient Egypt. It has been quite interesting that what I have learned from my Native American friends is their outlook on the Divine is very similar.
Anyways, I am looking forward to getting to know you as you seem to be a kindred soul from your choice of reading material.

God bless,
drj
