The "Marat/Sade" movie was cool. Although, I didn't find Patrick McGee's De Sade anywhere near as intriguing as Geoffrey Rush in "Quills". McGee just seemed rather dour and crabby. Rush's De Sade was just crackling with energy.

Have you read Peter Weiss' 'Marat / Sade'? It's another play that features a fictionalized version of De Sade, also when imprisioned in the Asylum of Charenton. I was lucky enough to see a live performance of that one, and liked it very much.
