Welcome to LT, cien. I am sure you are going to have a good time. I liked reading your reviews. They seem very open and honest. What more can you ask? I wish more people would post personal reviews of books; it's fascinating to mull over different opinions.
Cheers, Kevin (dylanwolf)
oh, and what kind of writing? just curious.
that was very kind of you. what's your favorite book in your collection?

and yeah, the coetzee just bowled me over. he was like saramago--i knew i had to get around to reading him one of these days, because everything was conspiring to get me to--the formal recognition, friends pushing me, the way their names kept coming up based on stuff i already liked--but i just kept resisting out of laziness and contrarian tendency, i guess. but wow! yes. he shot right up there. i can't wait to read disgrace, and want to read his essays too. oh, and i'm like you--once i've read a great book by someone new to me, i scoop up all i can by them, even stuff i've no idea about. ha.
Hey. Have just read your review of Disgrace after discussing it in the 'Geeks Who Love the Classics' group, and I think you are spot on. The stubbornness of the characters, particularly, is one of the things that really stood out about the book for me; a 'false' or 'foolish' nobility as you so eloquently put it. This, coupled with the fascinating father-daughter relationship and the bleak imagery makes it, for me at least, a brilliant novel. I'm just glad someone else loved it as much as I did, and was able to better articulate how I felt about it!

Oh, and good luck with the writing project that you mentioned on another thread!
