The internet is great for knowing prices and for knowing which shops to make an effort to visit, but like you, there is no substitute for holding a book in your hands before buying. And for smelling the bookshop. It would take only a few weeks to complete the 500 titles remaining on my list using the internet and a credit card, but what's the point of that? And what would I do next? And why would I bother visiting my children (Boston, San Francisco and San Diego) if there weren't bookshop visits on the agenda?
