Thanks for the recommendations. I have actually read each of the authors you mentioned. T. Jefferson Parker I just discovered this year and am definitely very fond of him. Michael Connelly is surely among the greats in this genre. I know I'm in the minority on this one, but Lee Child isn't among my favorites. I've read a couple of his Reacher novels, and Reacher is too "MacGyverish" for me, so there's really no suspense to the books. I've read one Laura Lippman novel. I wasn't blown away, but I'm definitely planning to read more.

I retired last May. Ironically, I have read LESS since then; I've been enjoying my freedon too much. I very much appreciate your suggestions. I'll check all three of them out. Every once in a while is take a sojourn into "literature," but I always end up back in the mysteries.
I've started reading the J.D. Robb DEATH series books. I'm really enjoying them. They are set in the future, but read quite "realistically" (no creatures from outer space, just some imaginative speculation on what the future holds for police procedures and life in general). There is a female protagonist, not usually a favorite of mine, but this gal is interesting and fun.
Thanks for taking the time to write.
