GroupsArt is Life

About meI graze from many pastures as I read, and teach a variety of subjects. I teach high school full time (Art History, Philosophy, Humanities) and college three-quarter time (Old and New Testament, Humanities). I enjoy playing guitar and have belonged to several bands over the years. I'm a practicing artist (my work can be viewed on my website www.recollections54.com), and I can never read enough, or find enough people with whom to discuss books. I'm still struggling to master this library system, and still have books to load. I hope someone out there is interested in discussing these matters.

About my libraryPhilosophy, literature, art, music, biography, theology, biblical studies--these are what I've gleaned since 1972, when I decided I wanted to build a pesonal library. I love the history of ideas, and wish I would have soaked my entire adult life in that discipline. This is what fuels my art endeavors. My website (www.recollections54.com) will show my original work.

have you checked into the "Art is life" group lately?:
I'm reading The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian. Has anyone else here read this? I'm not sure I like it - he's using Gatsby as though it's nonfiction. The main character comes from West Egg, belonged to a country club that was once Gatsby's house, is trying to figure out how to get hold of Tom and Daisy's daughter Pamela...

It's well-written and seems thus far to be a good story, but I'm not sure I can make it through without eventually throwing the book at the wall in frustration.
David,

As I recall, I got this link from the following profile:http://www.librarything.com/profile/them...

David, I am working my way through Loneliness as a Way of Life. I have so many different books going at the same time, I get distracted. Still I am somewhat disappointed with the book, I was hoping that the auther would talk more directly about what loneliness is and the affect it has,but he seems to circle the issue. He does have some interesting things to say about Death of Salesman and Moby-Dick. The writer is a socialogist and writes like one. I remember my class is college in socialogy, lots of words that never seemed to really say anything. my prejudice.
Thanks much for your thoughtful posts at the group I started, Art is Life. I especially love the one on art/painters. You must tell us sometime how you convey your love of art to high schoolers.
Thanks for the comments, DMTripp.

It is quite a while since I have been able to visit the group Art is Life, but it is an excellent and thought-provoking group. Perhaps one of the reasons, is my pace of life, which does not suit my brain's pace at all.

Anyway, nice to persue your profile and interesting selection of books. Always a pleasure to meet new people on LT and expand horizons.

Cheers,

Karen
Thanks for the note re: do you suffer for your art. I think the problem with me is, when I'm not working all my critical faculties are turned on ME and the scrutiny and analysis, the conclusions I'm forced to draw as to my ultimate worthiness, can be pretty bloody dire. So I'd rather use all my cerebral energies chasing down a good story or spending three bloody years writing a novel it's unlikely more than 1,000 people in the world will ever read. Ah, the artistic milieu...gotta love it. Have a great weekend...
I saw that you have read Stephen Fritchman. He was a dear friend of mine and I miss him........ our family name is Tripp, so I just had to contact you.
my Bible Readings are now available for free download.
If interested, go to http://charlescameron.wordpress.com & click on e-books, at the top of the page, for details.
Best wishes.

Hi - to my shame though I own Paulus I haven't yet read it! I admire Tillich, though.
Thanks for your reply. I hope you find my work on Scripture and theology useful.
God bless you.
Charlie
I see that you & I share a couple of books. I wonder if you might be interested in my Bible Reading Notes, covering the whole Scripture, posted in November 2006 at www.christinallthescriptures.blogspot.co... www.theologyofgcberkouwer.blogspot.com http://chascameron.spaces.live.com
Happy New Year.
