About meI'm like a Hypochondriac except that instead of coming up with real diseases for non-existent symptoms I come up with far-fetched explanations for very real and mysterious maladies that plague me. And then I go to the doctor. You'd think I'd learn after a while, but then again I'm insane, which by definition means I'm virtually incapable of learning from my mistakes.
Hi.
I like to read.
I'm double majoring in English and Philosophy at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX. I plan to grow up to be a starving artist, note, I'm running water through my roommate's coffee maker so that I can heat my ramen noodles. I win at starving artistry.
Also note, Texas is too hot. It should be abolished.
About my libraryMainly literature and poetry, although the non-fiction is slowly making it's own appearance.
Unlike my father, I enjoy paperbacks. I like the feel of them better. There's something very close to childhood and home in the feel of a paperback, and I'm big on nostalgia wherever I can grab it, because most of the things I enjoyed in childhood are lost or feel too foreign to me now.
My library is non-discriminatory in a highly discriminatory way. In other words, I'm not particular about the subject material that goes in, I will read just about whatever subject you put in front of me, but it must be well written. My library doesn't contain many science fiction or fantasy novels, because I find the majority of them are poorly written. What I do have in there are the classics of the genre or are exceptional in some way.
In the same vein, I don't have a lot of contemporary fiction in my library because I find the majority of that to be poorly written as well, or merely suitable for mindless reads while falling asleep by the pool. I might check those books out and read them, but I prefer not to spend the money to buy them. Instead, I enjoy slightly older modern fiction authors like John Fowles, Milan Kundera, and Francoise Sagan.
Maybe I'll think of more to say later, but I can smell my ramen cooking and it's making me oh so hungry.
EDIT: The ramen was really nasty. I should avoid using tap water in the future. :(
My rating system: (based purely on how much I enjoyed the work)
1/2 - Horrid, needs to be burned.
1 - Quite awful, nothing literary to recommend it.
1 1/2 - Almost has a little merit, but still nothing there to keep me interested
2 - Was a good idea, but author failed to carry out well.
2 1/2 - I'm tired of explaining the half-star points. You get the idea.
3 - Liked it, was a good read, has literary merit, probably won't read again.
4 - Definitely enjoyed, would consider reading again, had depth, and was well written.
5 - Same as four stars only I liked it that much more. Something with five stars I really really enjoyed.

Curious that you state "My library doesn't contain many science fiction or fantasy novels, because I find the majority of them are poorly written. What I do have in there are the classics of the genre or are exceptional in some way."
Abd then go on to rate Harry Potters at 4*? while they are many things I wouldn't have put the HPs in the class of well written fantasy. Oh well. Have a great new year, and hope the ramen thing works out better.

Neat! You go to Saint Mary's University in San Antonio, USA - I go to Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Canada.
You have some fabulous books - I have been making a wishlist for myself from your library (I keep seeing books in your list & thinking, "oh! - I saw that in the bookstore - that DOES look good" or "I've been wondering if that was decent...") Thanks. ^_^
