Groups1001 Books to read before you die

About meI'm a big nerd with a ridiculous love of the printed page. I feel no guilt when buying books no matter how crammed my shelves are or how little money i have.
Books are a tangible treasure, a special experience that you can actually hold in your hands. A perfect handfull of story and verse that you can easily sling in your pocket. (Of course, not if you're a Stephen King fan....but i hear his books are available on tape now!)

About my libraryMainly Classics, 20th Century favorites and Poetry.
Trully gorgeous delicate morsels, and hearty big loaves. It's a feast out there, and i plan to sample a bit of everything, so although my library is not a feast yet, i have great catering plans shall we say.

YORKSHIRE IS A BREEDING GROUND FOR RIDICULOUS ACCENTS
dansmell, you've really outdone yourself.
but more importantly, how do you feel about having a picture of peri in your author gallery?
that ain't right.
I have never read Tom Brown's School Days - let me know what you think of it. Currently I am on Abdelrahman Munif's Cities of Salt - the 600+ page opener to a trilogy... I think that will keep me busy for awhile. Let me know how you like A Handful of Dust.
Hello Danielle, and thank you for nice note. I will begin mine with a confession of my own – I have posted under a nom-d’ordinateur. As to Waugh (who I understand was not always a very nice gentleman), I’d be happy to help there – I loved his novels. My favorites are: Decline and Fall, A Handful of Dust, and Vile Bodies. I have not read Scoop, and a friend of mine finds that fact appalling – but there are so many books… Might I plug more? You should really, if you enjoy Waugh and his gift for invective-rich satire, try Alexander Theroux’s Darconville’s Cat, and Frederick Rolfe’s Hadrian VII,– and for sheer painterly beauty of the English language, Jocelyn Brooke’s The Image of a Drawn Sword and the novels of Denton Welch. So there you have my philosophy: time is too spare (like that image of the sparrow, out of Bede) for anything but reading it away and musing upon its awful passage. You appear to have struck upon a marvelous bookclub – one that has taste, rather than Oprah ;^). All the best to you, and happy reading! - Malcolm
I do it all for the belly. :)
