About meI study religion, its my passion. However I do not subscribe to any particular organized religion, I am closer to a Mystic or Occultist, maybe a Philosopher, than a person of religious faith.

I love to read, I read so much that my friends routinely joke about it. Other than reading I enjoy good food, good movies and TV, a good beer every once and a while, good friends, and intelligent conversation. I'm currently working on a Religious Studies major in college. Not sure what exactly I'm going to do with it, although it'll probably be in applied theology, ie a spiritual councilor.

About my libraryI'm currently working on weeding my library, something I said I'd never do again. However, I've admitted that, at least until I have my own place, I'm not going to be able to have a giant library like I'd like. As always I'm also working on my tagging system, eternally adding new tags, retagging stuff, etc. I found a star system I like (thanks Karenmarie) so I'm also working on rerating all the books I've already done, and will actually be rating each book as I read it from now on.

Book rating system:

Masterpiece *****
Stunning ****1/2
Excellent ****
Very Good *** 1/2
Good ***
Average ** 1/2
Bad **
Very Bad * 1/2
Don't Bother *
Anathema 1/2

I will say that there are certain books that get 5 stars automatically. I'll leave you to figure out which ones.

Hi DXL!

I don't blame you. You are now learning how difficult college can be, it is high time for a new nickname!
I personally prefer birth initials, that way, they can only be changed with great difficulty!

Best,
chg1 (the 1 is 'cause someone else has the chg!)
Hi (former) CofL !

Why the Handle change?

Thank you for extending your hand in friendship, this journey is a curious one and I always enjoying meeting fellow travelers along the way. Just recently, a friend mentioned a book named "The Shack" said it was a must read for spiritual seekers, have you heard of this? I'm looking for it now, I have a source already but at this time I don't know what it's about.
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed the KNP; it's one of the influences that nudged me towards biology, as I've been going there whenever time and funds permit since I was 4 years old (a long time ago). Unfortunately, as the facilities have improved, so the price has gone out of reach of ordinary South Africans. When I was a kid it was one of the cheapest holiday options going; now even the camping is expensive relative to other places.
I do think tonight really jumped ahead. The scenes for next week's episode look like the teaser commercails for a cliffhanger season ending. I am not sure what Joss is thinking. I expected a few more weeks of Ballard investigating. I expected the doll across the hall from him to be his snuggle bunny for a while. I thought we'd have a few bits of info about Caroline dropped into each episode in little doses. I surely didn't see that we would learn so much about her in one week. It feels alittle bit like maybe he is afraid they'll cancel without giving him a chance to tell his story. So he is ramping it up so he can tell the whole thing before going off the air. I would like it to be little slower paced. I like a build-up to the mythology. The clever little clues dropped in here and there that the viewer has to add up on their own. I don't much care for having the whole plot spelled out for me in capital letters and one syllable easy to understand words. I like the coyness and the sneaky feeling of having to pay attention and figure stuff out.

All that said, i am certainly going to keep watching. I just hope it doesn't degenrate into something that will have to be cancelled because it just isn't smart enough anymore. It only got to be really smart for about 3 episodes.

What did you think?
Just wondering how you changed your name in the end. I'd like to post a bit more freely about my life and it would be nice to be a bit more anonymous but the username changer still seems to be offline?
Hi!

I found you because you listed John P. Johnston's book 'This Side of the Gate' in Pearls of W & E. We have, it appears, very similar interests (and attitudes) re/religion and I invite you to check out my library.

We could discuss things. I believe I will mark your library as an interesting library (the first I have so marked).

Regards,

Fred

McMinnville. I've been there. It's a very nice town. Oh. Have you checked out the library at the monastery in Mt. Angel?
Daisies

(Frank Dempster Sherman)

At evening when I go to bed
I see the stars shine overhead.
They are the little daisies white
That dot the meadow of the night.

And often while I'm dreaming so,
Across the sky the moon will go.
It is a lady, sweet and fair,
Who comes to gather daisies there.

For, when at morning I arise,
There's not a star left in the skies,
She's picked them all
and dropped them down
Into the meadows of the town.
It's good to see that the transition from C_o_L to DxL went over without a hitch.
WOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!! Glad you like the new handle!!!
Try to find a Mac Users group!!! Don't give up your mac.
Yup, you are probably right about WRII. I dunno, LibraryThing is about as thoughtful as internet discussions seem to get, and yet sometimes it seems as if not much communication takes place, just a rehearsed noise as ships pass in the night.
It sounds like you've already got a script for the Statham-as-Christ film "Salvator" :)
Autobiography of a Yogi is one of my favourite classics in this field, indeed!
Hello Robert,
Thanks for the kind words!

Robert,

Thanks for adding me to your list of interesting libraries. I have read your profile before, I don't remember what led me to your profile, probably one of the groups. I see you're majoring in Religious Studies. If the reason of your interest in my library is Osho and you want to know more, send me an E-mail.

Regards,
Richard

Thirty years ago, I read the book, The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, by Julian James (see www.julianjaynes.org/index.html) At the time, I looked on this book as a godsend in that it gave me hope that there was an “empirical” method of validating much of the now-called “new age” material which had always been the basis of my own “default religion”, i.e., that there was physiological evidence that can be the anchor of espousing such as the Hindu Samadhi and the Buddhist nirvana. With the appearance of Bruce Lipton’s The Biology of Belief and, recently, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor’s My Stroke of Insight, and their approaches to so-called “hallucinatory” states of mind, I feel very confident in asserting these as ordinary avenues of explanation of our present existence. These intellectual patterns fit very well within the parameters of existentialism. Incidentally, Jill Taylor mentions the pictorial right brain vs. the linear left brain. This causes me to speculate on one of the reality templates of the oriental (e.g., Chinese) mentality, e.g. pictograph language expression as opposed to the Western linear word labels.

Also, you might check out The Messengers by Julia Ingram and G.W. Hardin.
Robert,

I would look forward to hearing more about your journey and the path you may be discerning in your life and ministry; as well as sharing any insights and/or resources that you may find helpful in this regard. Also, if you see a book or two from my collection you would like to have or borrow, please ask- I am glad to share books with fellow readers and thinkers.

Peace in the name of all that is holy to you,

Hi--I've noticed your messages on a couple of threads and came to look at your library. I like your ambition to have a spiritual library with the great books of many faiths. Looks like you've got some interesting books!
