About me40-something, UK. Came from an almost book-free childhood home and didn't really discover the joys of books until I was 18. Now over-compensated in the other direction.

About my libraryAbout another thousand volumes that I haven't got round to adding yet. Need to do some serious weeding.

Major genres: Natural history, photography, zen/taoism, poetry, letters/diaries, essays, social history, philosophy, art, etc.

I'll always try to get the hardback edition rather than the paperback, unless the price difference is too great. Started buying some non-illustrated works on Kindle, but only because I have no more room for the physical versions.

Hello David

Many thanks indeed for your helpful comments. I had the chance to look at the new Clancy at the Birdfair last Sunday. I had already ordered Manley and was not feeling flush enough to add the new book to my shelves. It looks useful, but there are now so many field guides one has to be (sometimes brutally!) selective.

Your library is very impressive - it must be a pleasure to retreat into on a rainy day! If I added my field guides and zen books we would end up with a lot in common.

Thanks again! Chris

Hello Dioctria. I hope you don't mind me contacting you, but I see you just added Clancy et al.'s new macromoth guide and that you have very similar field guides to me (very few of mine catalogued here). I saw mixed reviews of this book on the web and just wondered what your opinion of the book is. I have WTL, Skinner and Souths, but not the A & C Black photo guide. How does the new one compare?
