About meI do like LibraryThing, not just for helping me keep track of my own collection, but also for making it possible to find books or authors new to me that are of interest.

The site does have some serious problems though.

Firstly, the over-reliance on data from Amazon, which are frequently wrong. There are far too many wrong covers, wrong authors, or impossible ISBNs originating from Amazon.

Secondly, the lack of clear histories for edits to Common Knowledge and to disambiguation pages. This makes it much harder to find and fix mistakes and vandalism than it should be.

Thirdly, the lack of any mechanism to report problems to staff, and the absence of response from staff when you do contact them. Customer service is practically non-existent. The Bug Hunters group is full of unacknowledged, or acknowledged but never fixed reports, and while in any of the groups you will see comments urging users to report issues to staff, nowhere will you find a way of doing so! Staff may sometimes ask for issues to be raised directly with them, but will then ignore such reports for months.

Fourthly, the lack of development. Very little seems to have been done of late to improve the experience of users, and while an iPhone app has been produced, it seems that the 80% of smartphone users who use Android are not on the radar for LibraryThing.

I am fed up seeing days of work undone by one editor who clearly does not understand combination, aliasing, and the like, and who has an obvious grudge.
