About meI was a John W. Campbell Award finalist in 1985 for best new science fiction writer of the year. My story "Moments of Clarity" (FULL SPECTRUM, Bantam, 1988) reached preliminary ballot for a 1989 Nebula Award, given by the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America.
In 2009, three publications containing my fiction won awards. IPPY Silver Medalist RIFFING ON STRINGS: CREATIVE WRITING INSPIRED BY STRING THEORY (Scriblerus Press) contained my story "Arachne." Bram Stoker Award-winner UNSPEAKABLE HORROR: FROM THE SHADOWS OF THE CLOSET (Dark Scribe Press) contained my story "Memento Mori." Hugo Award-winner ELECTRIC VELOCIPEDE contained my story "Hermit Crabs" in issue #14. That story is also on the recommended reading list in THE YEAR'S BEST SCIENCE FICTION, 26TH ANNUAL EDITION.
When not writing or reading I have a special fondness for photographing insects and other wildlife in my central Florida neighborhood. I also perform spoken word and extemporaneous a cappella singing at open mics.
