I'm reading *In Praise ---* as a nod to Vargas Llosa's Nobel too. You asked which you should have read, and I just want to recommend The War of the End of the World as one of my top 50 or so books in 66 years of reading. My buddy Larry Riley, whom you may know, also recommends Conversation in the Cathedral as being even better. I would have tried it now, but I have too many other big things going on. Don't give up on VL!
