About meI enjoy reading a wide variety of subjects, especially non-fiction. Reading has meant opening up new worlds, starting in the early days with Classics Illustrated. Then, I graduated to full texts with the first book in junior high being Ivanhoe. Over the years science fiction, travel, biography, westerns, crime and spy novels, and, especially military history, have consumed a great deal of time.

Reading has increased with participation in Study/Discussion Groups of the Plato Society of Los Angeles (now independent). We usually have core books for many of these 14- as well as 10- and 7-week courses. To a degree, I have participated in book groups at our church. It is my dream to someday write a blog about the wonderful world of books, stressing non-fiction.

About my libraryMy library strongly concentrates on military history. Additionally, biographies constitute a considerable part of the shelves. Shelves also contain higher education texts and philosophies, classical music, research in education, and presidencies. American Indian Wars have two shelves devoted to the subject; two shelves contain Knighthood in Flower texts. Rome has two shelves devoted to the subject. Colonial America is gaining popularity, along with books on George Washington and the Founding Fathers.

Along the way, I have collected major books about voyages of discovery on every continent. An entire shelf now contains the South Pole and the North Pole. Art history is not neglected as well as Ocean Liners of different eras. The latest craze to receive shelf is the Gold Rushes of the World. It is part of the preparation for the Study/Discussion Group (S/DG) on "Race for Riches: Looking for the Mother Lode." I am starting to invest in an Insurgency and Counterinsurgency shelf for the next S/DG planned for Winter, 2014.
