About me
(credit for above image goes to Akatari)

I'm 23 yrs old, and I want to be a published author someday and own a sanctuary for abused/unwanted/hurt animals of all kinds. Right now, however, I'm just trying to keep my head above water in this crazy game of life.

I love books, all kinda of books. I'm particularly attached to YA books, books that are technically below my reading level but are so good that I can't be bothered to think about that fact (ie Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley, etc). I have many random books but I've realized I don't usually buy random books unless someone has recommended it or it's on a subject I completely love. I usually stick with my tried-and-true authors and series.

I have piles of books that I need/want to get rid of, and I do that on BookMooch, which is pretty much tied with LibraryThing in my mind for the MOST AWESOME book-related website EVAR.

About my libraryWhile this catalogue started out only for books I actually own, I quickly became pulled in to the point where it now includes all the books I own (including To Be Read books), my favorite library books, plus books I read and liked but no longer have (including children's books and books from school).

One of my favorite things about my catalogue is that it keeps getting bigger, and sometimes in unexpected ways. It keeps growing and growing, and a lot of that is because of surfing around the site and finding books that I'd forgotten about that I'd read years ago!

Explanation of some of my tags:

"don't know where or when I read it" ... Mainly self-explanatory. I've come across a few books that I *know* I've read, I remember them very well, but I don't own them and they aren't in my list of given-away books, and I can't remember if they were library books.

"special memories" is kind of self-explanatory as well. It mostly refers to books from my past, teen or childrens books, that have for whatever reason made a big impact on me.

"influenced my stories": I'm an amature (read: unpublished) author, and there are some books that have heavily influenced the way I write, the things I write about, ideas for scenes, etc.

"read as a child": At first I used this tag vaguely, and it's been applied to stuff I read when I was 5 years old, AND when I was 15. I've tried to narrow down the definition, though, and now it (hopefully?) means books that I read while in grade school. ... Not saying there won't be mistake/exceptions.

I'm glad it got there okay! :D
How are you doing today?
Your Marda book arrived! Let me know where you'd like me to send it.

I hope your thanksgiving was fun and your health is doing better. I have been praying for your treatment and recovery from your illness and I was wondering if you would share an update with all.

I have not seen you in the Bookmooch Tea Room board lately so I thought I would post it here.
Hi Heather, Bad Alice arrived so I have made an angel listing for you here: http://bookmooch.com/m/detail/BM1303188224351377328
I'm a frequent reader, infrequent poster on the BM threads. I recently finished The Eighty-Dollar Champion which I received through Early Reviewers. It's about a horse named Snowman who competed in jumping shows starting in the mid-1950's. It's an Advance Uncorrected Proof, so there are some minor errors in the book which were probably corrected in final editing, and the cover is generic. If I recall correctly, you collect horse books, so I wanted to offer it to you first before posting it to my BM inventory.

Kristin
I understand, I have been doing the same, although somewhat less successfully. Although I have been somewhat successful, so that is saying something :P
How are you doing? Beetle Bailey can be fun, I love those older collections of comics :) Little Lulu is being put back out in book form. I found one at the used book store, and they are a hoot! :)
Thank you thank you thank you even just for looking, Heather.
Hi Heather,
just got back from vacation and wanted to let you know I rec'd your recommendation email for the angel-mooch but since I can't log in to BookMooch from work, I won't be able to mooch until I get home tonight. Thanks again for being an angel!
~jenni
Hi Heather,
Thanks for angel-mooching "My Dog Does My Homework". Too bad about "The Giving Tree". I'm sure another copy will pop up eventually. And since it's for my new grand-nephew's library, I have time to search -- it will be some time yet until he's able to read :-)
~jenni

I just read a bit of your dreamwidth blog (but I can't comment there) about the books about Sheila. I've read the first book, which made me search for other books by Torey Hayden. I haven't been able to find the second book about Sheila yet though, but I do want to read it sometime.

Also, I like your TBR bookcase with labels :)
Yes, 2's are 8.5 x 11.
0 are the smaller size: 1 paperback, 1 DVD, etc
4s and 5s are bigger. 5's seem to be 11x17.
Any particular sizes, m'dear? I mainly have 2's available, but some 4s and 5s.
Ugh, I never thought of myself as young... But everyone on here is older... :PPPPPPP
I love the books by Dave Pelzer! I have one chapter left of "A Child Called It".
Have you seen this book? It's supposed to be absolutely awful, and yet I'm still tempted....
So glad you liked 'A Turn of the Blade' - thank you! The U.S. edition had a lot cut out of it - they said it was too long! - the Australian edition published by HarperCollins has about 40 extra pages - this is the book I wrote. I've just uploaded my seventh book as an ebook. Bless you for caring for animals - you must have a great heart. Kind regards,
Veronica.
Oops sorry Heather I did not realize that it was spam to advertise a giveaway I won't do it again thank you for letting me know!

Kitty
Thanks so much, love!
If you're still running a home for Babysitter's Club books, I got a couple as freebies.
45: Kristy and the Baby Parade
63: Claudia's Friend
SS8: Baby-sitters at Shadow Lake.

If you want the trio, I'll list one and send the rest to you as freebies. Otherwise, they're going to Goodwill.

Also! Do you need a horse calendar? Swedish Warmbloods.
***Hugs***
Thank you for your tip about authors. I'd be happy to discuss books about horses with you.
ps- If you do decide to buy a program, I won BitDefender in a contest and loved it so much I am going to renew when the time is up. Mcaffee is a no-no, takes up lots of memory/slows computer down.
Got it, and reserved for you on BookMooch now
Mooch accepted! I'll let you know when I get it.
Cheers
Donogh
Thanks for the offer to send Eragon, Heather! I was able to mooch a copy last night. If that falls through, I'll get back to you. Thanks again!
Heather,

Thanks for your kind response. I discovered really quickly that I had made a mistake and I am sorry for that. I'm new here. My publisher suggested I open an account on Library Thing and I'm glad I did, but I should have taken a little more time to familiarize myself with the rules.

Surprisingly, a number of gay people read my blog, so I was a bit taken aback by the harshness of the comments here. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about what I write. Yes, I'm sure we differ in our opinions about sexuality, but primarily my issue has been with the mistreatment and judgment inflicted on people. Hence, the idea of survival.

My other books, "Those Not-So-Still Small Voices," and "Like Father, Like Son (and Daughter, Too), were about family and raising children. Not quite so controversial.

I have offered five copies of the "Surviving" as giveaways and also posted that I would be happy to be interviewed. Perhaps something will come of that.

Thanks again for your very gracious note.

Thom
Strangely, I am fine. Upset at the changes mind you, but not shakey/weepy or any of that. More mobilized I guess. Hopefully he will see some sense.

Rearranging the TBR piles sounds like fun! I may try to do some reading...
Good for you Heather, you go girl :)
Hi Heather, I'm doing better than I expected. {{hugs}} The Tillerman books are excellent, I have the whole set too and have read all of them. I've reserved them in tags and will post them for you probably on Friday. I want to get the first batch of my mom's books mailed out before I post any more.
This just gives me more incentive to mail your package sooner. :)
Yay! I'm glad the books arrived. I'm torn about The SL. Part of me doesn't really want it, part of me says it's just for a quick re-read, so condition shouldn't matter. I think as long as all the pages are intact, I will mooch the book. I would really hate to get to the last page and find out that it's not there! Let me know when the books are posted and I will mooch.
thanks for angelling the Barzun book! Don't hesitate to remind me of the extra points, especially if the mooch takes place in November!
Hi - re the angeling - yes, I'll list on BM when it arrives. Sorry, still getting used to LT and the angeling process! Yvann
It's upsetting we don't have any books in common, though I hit the free account limit of 200 and you've gone energizer rabbit.
Sorry for the late reply but i've already mooched the books that i wanted. Thanks for offereing :)
Just mooched it. Thanks so much!!!!
My grandma used to watch his show (I lived with her) and later I went to see all the Lawrence Welk show regulars in person/in concert when I was in 8th grade. Not a ton of people my age are fans, but I am and I am so thrilled to get this book.
Thanks so much!
Nancy
I wasn't sure if you still have the Lawrence Welk book...if you do I'd love to mooch it from you. Let me know. Thanks!
Ahh, that is the place I noticed it most. Thanks! Was feeling a bit left-out. XD
hey, love, is there any protocol I should know? I joined a couple groups and commented on a few threads, but those that have replies after me have completely ignored me. I can understand on the ones where I didn't think to say I was new, but even when I did...

I dunno. Maybe TSR has me spoiled... ;)
Yeah, my first four books work for that, imo, as well as lots of hugs *hug*.
I have read quite a few Elisabeth Bathory books too. It is a trickle over effect of my obsession with Vlad Tepes. I am just excited that I know someone with that book. It has seriously been like a unicorn for me. I am glad to hear that it is great. I will keep looking for a copy. You have given me hope. :)
when you are ready I would like to read your stories.
OMG! You got Countess Dracula by Tony Thorne on BOOKMOOCH!?!?! That book has been my unicorn for years! It is like 100 bucks on Amazon. You will have to tell me how it is after you read it.
i like your new title.
Hi Heather,

The book was just published at the end of 2009. It is historical fiction and is based on the life of Elizabeth Bathory told from the point of view of a lady in waiting. It follows her time line and includes many real people she encountered in history. Also, Dandelions In The Garden is book one, there is a sequel coming out this summer, The HIdden Will of the Dragon, which focuses on the second and final part of Elizabeth's life.

Thanks for sending a note and I hope you enjoy the book(s)!

Charlie
This looks like you.
http://www.librarything.com/topic/90907
You asked me about the capitalization rules I use for titles.

I use the same kind of style, roughly speaking, as the APA style guide; the Library of Congress also seems to use this style.
I was noticing before that we seem to have a lot of the same books wishlisted!
I have 8 word-finds and 4 crosswords. Any preference on points? I will only accept 11 or lower as an answer for 12 books, or 7 or lower if you don't want the crosswords.
Hi Heather (v good name btw!)

I don't know if you remember but way back at the beginning of January you were looking for someone to angel Behind Closed Doors by Jenny Tomlin from the UK to you. I mooched it from the owner and have been sending reminders, but when I checked today he has been vacationed (not sure who by) and hasn't logged in for 27 days.... He never accepted the mooch either.

I'm happy to hold on if you want to but I have a feeling it may not be coming.... Grrr :-( Let me know what you want to do, so sorry this hasn't worked out so far.

Heather

Whenever you feel like shipping it is fine with me! I am just so excited about getting it! Joss Whedon is my biggest fangirl crush ever and I love everything he does. My husband will laugh at me in my Willow and Tara shirt and I don't care!!

Whenever you are ready to send it out, let me know and I will give you my address.

Thanks again and I hope your March is not as bad as you think it will be! :)

Jenn
Thaks awfully for the NaNo wishes, HEather!

Cheers

Hi Heather,

Thank you for angelling "the time of the dark". If you need a second mooch, don't hesitate to tell me ;)

Hi Heather, I'm dropping in to say hi to everyone on the NaNoWriMo thread. I love the puppy picture and I hope to save unwanted abused, etc animals also, when I retire. I have a rescue of sorts now, a chinese crested and have fostered a harlequin great dane that I managed to get adopted within a week of taking her home. She went to the home of a man who takes in unwanted animals such as pot-bellied pigs, two black swans who were attacking people walking by "their" lake, miniature horses, etc on acres and acres of land. He had just lost "Spike" his GD and stopped me in the middle of a walk to pat Phoenix. When he heard she was available for adoption, that was all she wrote! It was all done officially through a rescue and I hope to have the opportunity to do the same again someday when life gives me the time. Well, see you in November. MB
Hiya

Just to let you know that the Animal Ark books have arrived and I've reserved them for you on BM. Also, the sender said that she has a whole bag of them so if there were others that you wanted, you could let me know and I could see if she has them?

Take care
Sending you big cyber hugs, and hoping that you are feeling better about your nightmare mooch earlier today....I am a little late in checking the board tonight, but I trust that your many LT friends helped to calm you :)

Michelle
Heather,
BBC *sigh* I ment BSC (Baby-Sitters Club). I've actually begun to think I should pick them up at the thrift stores as the local book stores don't sell them any more. I actually didn't get into Tamora Pierce until after Harry Potter. I was 20 when I first found her and I guess I just enjoyed a fantsay novel with a femal lead that I fell in love with both her worlds.

As for Nancy Drew I love that they are mysteries that don't talk down to the child who is reading them. I also like that I still have a hard time seeing who the bad guy is until the author has Nancy figure it out.
~ Missy
Well.... yeah. Some days everyone is, even Ani.

What's the puppy's name?
LOL Heather,
I was obsessed with Nancy Drew and BBC books when I was a kid. Then I got into the Hardy Boys after I started the joint mysteries. *snort* I had almost all the BBC books, but when I got to college my mom asked if she could give them to a friend. I didn't have enought room so I was like sure go ahead. *sigh* now I regret not still having the BBC books, I held onto the the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys ones. Anyway long explanation for nothing really.

Thanks for grabbing those for me. I had a copy of Tricksters Queen that was suppose to come to me but the moochers account was put on hold. Those shipping to her got a account closed notice but I didn't. They are almost the last two I need from Tamora Pierce to have all her books. Now I just need the White Tiger one and I got them all. *dances* My dad and bf have both told me I need to stop getting books I just rolled my eyes and picked up my book to finish reading. Any who thanks again I really appreciate it!

BTW I'm ArtemisAthene on bookmooch.
~ Missy
Hi Heather,
For some reason I can't post on the forum right now - it's saying debug test?

Anyways, thank you so much for angel mooching those two books for me (Wally Lamb and Things I Learned From Women Who Dumped Me). I really appreciate it. My BM ID is the same as on LT - michellereads, and my member name is michelle (Canada).

I tried to find a Heather from Arizona on BM but I didn't have much luck. Please pass along your BM ID to me so that I can find you!

Thanks again,
Michelle
Hi Heather, that's not a problem at all.
Thanks
Donna
Hi Heather,
I have just gotten a reply about your 'angel' mooch request: Women Out of Control: How the Girls Next Door Became Some of the World's Most Notorious Criminals, as I managed to contact the member. She wrote:

Hi Lyn,

I've been meaning to send you an email. I kind of live in two places and the book you have asked for is in the NT at the moment. I'm FIFO at a mine there and currently it is sitting in my donga. I go back to work on tuesday next week. I'll try and send it from work if possible. If not I will not be able to send it for at least a week and a half.

Really sorry. I should get into the habit of checking me email at work so I can make sure I bring the books that are wanted to be mooched.

I told her not to worry and we wouldn't mind waiting until she could send it... so I hope you won't! NT is Northern Territory BTW, and you may have known that, and I am not sure if she is in another state at present; I asked what a FIFO did, and otherwise I will wait now, until it is sent. :)
I am actually very pleased to get this reply, as I was worrying this would turn into another case of a new member disappearing.

Hope this IS all OK with you,
~Lyn
Sneaky girl...because of you I just spent HOURS updating my library, and now I'll have to organize it except I haven't got all the books yet and...

You just wanted someone else hooked. :P

*HUG*
You found Beauvallet and The Nonesuch, and will reserve them for me on BM??? *grabs Heather in a bear hug and spins around madly*

^ That's a yes! :) :) :) Thanks awfully!
Hiya!

Oh, good. I would send the boxy thing if you really wanted it, but it would have been more difficult to package!

Angel mooch is up:
http://www.bookmooch.com/detail/BM1194851479743589312

Ooooooh, such a cute puppy!!

Hi Heather,

Ever written a haiku? There's been a mini-outbreak of haiku on the topic of "Waiting for Collections" -- I don't know if you're into that sort of thing, but for some reason I was thinking that you might want to join in the fun... Check out this thread and, of course, the LibraryThing Haikus page.

Silent
Sorry it took a while to get back to you -- I've been away and had a large email backlog.

Most of my titles at Loose Id are also available through Fictionwise, which does allow you to pay by cheque via the Micropay system, which lets you to buy credit to use later. I haven't used it myself, but I know people who use this to buy enough credit to cover a few books by cheque and then buy books as they see an interesting title.
Hi! Was just reading your "rant" from Jan 16. Just joined this group. Yes, I too have the problem of only being able to send out so many shipments a month due to a tight budget (You know what's as bad as a 20-yr-old trying to get by.....a 48-yr single mom w/ a special needs child whose *7%#@*&^!! of an ex isn't paying his child support). What got me was I had started w/ changing my status message indicating I could not accept any more mooches for that particular month & people would keep on mooching!! My biggest rant: "I THOUGHT we're a site of READERS! Why aren't you READING my status message?"

So now I go on vacation in between sending out bks in the beginning of each month, for chunks of 6-10 days.

It's true, communication needs to be clear on both sides. I just wish some of the BM members would finally 'get' it.
Ahh, okay. I think I can manage that without getting my panties in a twist. ;-)

 thanks!
Hey, Heather. Somebody, either you or b'go, said I could track books I want to read here, too. Can I make a TBR list here? How?

KD
To tell you the truth, I just came on because I'm procrastinating. :-P Facebook has a similar feature now, so I was adding books there, and then I remembered about LT.

And no, I don't tend to read the kind of books you read. ;-)
Heather,

I've thought some more about your post and would now like to transfer my data listing positive review that I put in the reviews field into a comments field. Is there an easy way to do this? Also is there a way to add additional fields? I wouldn't have used the reviews field at all if I knew how to add more fields. Thanks. Deb
Well, it seems like Libra has been abandoned! And I have not been able to enter my videos/CD's with the ISBN number, only manually....So, I would say it is good for books, but limited for everything else!
Dorla
Glad they arrived safely. Clara
I would love to mooch the 10th Circle. I will email you.
How's your Sweet Valley re-purchasing going? I've realized lately that I'm almost jealous of you--I keep seeing so many Sweet Valley books in the used bookstores and remembering the excitement of buying them the first time! I'm seriously tempted to try to buy a second set of them just for the fun of it. I think I may be crazy....
I read your review of the Disinformation Book of Lists.

So... when're you going to be giving me your copy? ;P

*evil laugh*

Anyway, I thought of Lurlene McDaniel the other day. You are explicably connected in my brain to her name.
I hate when libraries move things around!

Your ferret is cute.
Hi heather :-)
I'm not sure....

I read Keeping You A Secret a while ago--maybe two years? And Far From Xanadu I read about a year ago.

Have you read Luna, too? And Define Normal?
Re your post "and the books I don't want my mom to see go together in a special place"

I used to have that issue. I asked my grandparents for a foot locker for christmas, and I got one. It had a key and everything. Absolutely essential for reading what you're not supposed to be... :)
Hi Heather--

Re: your Calvin and Hobbes thank you--You're welcome! Always glad to share a bit of trivia with a neighbor.

--J.
Hi! See, here I am!!!
I'm glad to hear it! :D
Heather, I saw some Sweet Valley books for $1 each at a book sale today and I thought of you! I hope you're managing to rebuild your collection!
Thank you. Owning a second-hand bookshop would be a magnificent way for me to go bankrupt!
LOL! I forgot that I had my BookMooch account on my profile here. Nothing is random chance anymore!
That Ann Rule book you just mooched on BM....that was me! :)
Hi, Heather,

I'm sorry to take this long to respond to your very kind comments; we just got back from a long vacation. Anyway, I'm glad to know you liked my reviews, and I enjoyed looking over your library. It's always nice to meet another comic-strip afficiando; sometimes it seems like it's only folks from my generation that appreciate them.

Mike
Heather: I'm so sorry about your grandfather's books. Isn't it incredible how thoughtless some people can be?
Hi Heather! :)

Thanks so very much for your comment - very sweet of you. It always puts a bright smile on my face to read comments from others on my page. What a day brightener! *smile* You know that Nancy Drew habit of yours could be quite profitable in the end, those books can sell for a bundle should you ever be inclined to sell them. I know I've been holding onto my YA collection of like titles in my collection for that reason among others.

*chuckle*

Well, that and the fact that I, like you, can't bear to part with them. It pains me to get rid of any books unless I already have a second copy or (very very rarely) really don't like the book and then it's no problem to part with it. But that really only happens about once a blue moon or so as it really takes a lot for me not to want to hold onto a book and keep it in my collection. However, it looks like we share a good collection of books, so I'm sure you know how that is.

Thanks for the comment again. :)
Much bliss & happy reading!
~PandorasRequiem
From one Nancy Drew, SVH, and babysitter club fan, I just stopped by to say, "Hi!!"
The book that I wrote that about was the graphic novel adaptation of "The Truth About Stacey". That book and also "Kristy's Great Idea" have been adapted into graphic novels by Raina Telgemeier, published by Graphix (which is an imprint of Scholastic publishing). I believe there's a third one expected out sometime in the next year (though I couldn't tell you which one!). If you're a BSC fan, I'd recommend checking them out. I found that both were pretty faithful to the original stories.
Even better (re: the # of books we share)! :)

I know what you mean about the restrictions of how many books you can have in your catalog. I finally gave in and paid the whole fee, because after a couple weeks of adding books, I realized I'd reached 200 a lot quicker than I'd expected. :)

Oh yeah, there are tons of BSC books, especially if you include the spin-off series: Baby-sitters Little Sister, California Diaries, etc.
Cool, we share similar tastes in kids books--22 so far. :) Happy reading!
