About meI am a mother of 4, wife to an amazing chef, and a homeschool teacher. I collect and share knowledge, sometimes in the form of books. I do not consider myself to be well read, but am working on it.

About my libraryMost of my library is for my children. I have bought books for them since before they were born. Many of my books are from second hand sales or swap sites. Many are new, purchased as gifts. A few are from my mother's childhood. I also own shelves full of books for my homeschooling.

I now have several books that I have requested as Early Review books that haven't been sent. This is probably keeping me from getting others that I've requested. One has been on there since January. Why would they put books out there for review and then never send them? I know that some publishers take quite a while to get their books to a reviewer, but six months is a bit much.
We are currently doing an author study, that is reading several books by the same author and comparing them. The author we are reading is Kathleen Krull. Many of the books we have picked up are in her Giants of Science series, as well as other biographies. My children are really enjoying these books. They are written for children, but are not dumbed down in the least. My children appreciate the opportunity to read informative text that is not dry, but also not patronizing.
Kids are very excited about the new FableHaven book coming out in March by Brandon Mull. We have enjoyed all of his books thus far. I really liked Candy Shop Wars. It sparked many discussions in my house about honesty, power struggles, drugs, and stranger danger. Very cool author.
I am so happy the children love the book! I was excited just thinking about them examing each and every page with its pop-ups. We really have been fortunate with respect to the amount of snow accumulation so far. Most of the snow storms have been around us. The most we have received at one time was about 2-3 inches, which is below normal for this month. However, we often get huge amounts in February, and once a 16-inch storm on March 17! It has been abnormally cold, but that should improve within a few days (unless they change the weather forecast again). Will let you know when we get a truly big storm.

Happy New Year to you and your precious family!!

Hi Heather,
Just wondering if your children (except the wee one), enjoyed Christmas Around the World. I am sure you are very busy starting a new home school semester, but would enjoy knowing.

Irene
P.S. I bet you make a mean cup of hot chocolate. Growing up I was the only one who enjoyed a cup on winter "snow days," and winter evenings. Always made it from scratch with Hershey's cocoa, and always made it according to the directions on the container. What a treat! Now, I don't even Hershey's cocoa in my cupboard! What a shame..

Hi Heather, Thanks for adding me to your "interesting" library list. How do you think the new legislation for resale of children's books will affect the homeschool community?
It's an epidemic! I'm a homeschool mom and I too suffer from a compulsion to buy children's books. Ann
Hi Heather, I am also a homeschool mom, also...I feel I am afflicted with the same illness, "children's book collectitis".
