About me I'm an active service army officer serving on staff at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Canada. I'm a past Commanding Officer of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada and the author of several military history books. My specialties are the Highland regiments and Georgian Army in North America during the Seven Years' War (French & Indian War) and my graduate research was on the Canadian Corps in WW1. I've worked as a historical consultant for the CBC and A&E History Channel.
See CV on website.
About my library As a military historian, my library has gone through several changes. My second wife told me I had too many books, so an entire wall of World War One and Two books including regimental & corp histories went off to the antiquarian book dealer in exchange for the Champlain Society's limited edition reprint of John Knox's The Siege of Quebec and the Campaigns in North America, 1757-1760, (London, 1769) in three volumes, a gold mine of information on the Seven Years War in North America. For relaxation any historical fiction will do. Those of a nautical nature, a mystery included, or presenting alternative or fantasy histories are the most intriguing.

Recently finished the first three books of Gregory Keyes brilliant "Kingdoms of Bone & Thorn" series. He paints a rich world of mythos and lyrical history superimposed with a suspenseful and fast moving storyline. Any fans of Tolkien, Guy Gavriel Kay, Julian May or Robin Hobb are sure to enjoy........
The first three titles are;
The Briar King
The Charnel Prince
The Blood Knight

Funny, I have been meaning to contact you after I saw you were also a member - so thanks for reaching out first. Certainly want to thank you for autographing my copies of "Sons of the Mountains", it's a real honor to own them. My friend Ed bought them for me when he last visited Fort Ti - he's a piper/soldier in our living history group, the re-created 84th Highlanders, based out of Maryland, USA (I live in Philly, PA). The F&I and AWI period is one of my passions, as is portraying a Highlander in King George's army. I also try to participate in F&I events as well, sometimes as a ranger, when my already busy schedule allows.
I enjoy your books very heartily, having some Celtic roots myself (strong McBride blood on my father's side...). I also noticed when I created my LibraryThing account that we shared a lot of the same titles/interests. While I have an ever growing library, I am but a lowly amateur when it comes to depth of knowledge. I read what I can get my hands on, but things generally go into the head, rattle around a bit, and fall out a few books down the road. Small bits and pieces linger! So I'll never claim to be a historian. Just a very enthusiastic fan! And very glad to have found your books. Please keep up the good work, there's a lot of enthusiasts like myself out there...
Contact me offline at ryanophilly@yahoo.com and we can chat more! Thanks for visiting my library, and for your suggestions. I look forward to learning more from you!
Cheers,
Ryan Ott
