About meI got a job! I'm officially an English teacher!! I'll be teaching middle school English in Northern Virginia come fall (2009). I still have a few classes to take to finish my M.Ed. in Secondary Education, but that's incidental. I'm a teacher!

About my libraryMy library is limited to those books that I actually own, though the tags denote that there are several hundred that I have not yet read. Although I do read pretty fast, I also buy books even faster. I also check quite a few books out of the public library, so that slows down my reading what I own. But I figure if I own it, then I'll read it someday. I buy a lot of impulse books as well, because I know that I won't remember I want to read it if I don't buy it and it disappears from the bookstore shelves. If it's on my own shelves I'll at least get to it eventually. In that way I often buy the first book in a series and not the rest, when I've read that first one and like it then I hunt down the others. Or sometimes I just buy them all and hope for the best!

The amount of books I own is also the product of ten years in the book industry. I've been working for some variation of Barnes & Noble since high school and I have yet to give it up on at least a part-time basis. Part of it is I love the atmosphere, the smell of books, the discussion with customers who love books as much as I do, and the great recommendations to them and from them. Most of it, though, is the discount! I haven't paid full price for a book in ten years and I can't possibly start now...at least not until I make enough money that the discount doesn't matter (and that will probably never happen). But the discount is great and the little bit of money I make there, during my one or two shifts a week, goes right back into the store as I spend more than I make there. So basically my job facilitates my habit, but that's the way I like it.

As far as the books I read from the library, you can find them on these lists...

Now that there is a barcode scanner...I might finish it this summer!
Hi Sweetie
Thank You for all the books you have made my job so much more pleasent. xoxoxoxoxox
Nice review on Into Thin Air! After reading Spirited Away I kept thinking that her other book looked familiar and sure enough, it was in my tbr pile. I pulled it out but am not sure when I'll get to it. I have a couple in line ahead of it (including Outlander) so it may be a little while. But, it looks like it will be a lot of fun when I get to it!
Hi, Christy:)

Of course I remember you. We talked paranormals and compared bookshelves. I believe you won that comparison. You're the first person I heard mention Library Thing, and I made a note of it -- just slow to get my profile up and running. I'm so glad you enjoyed Pandora's Box! Thanks for telling me -- you made my day. Yes, The Druid Made Me Do It will be out very soon. I'm nervous. I hope you like it, too. I do plan to get up to DC for stock signing, etc., just not sure when that will be yet. August is ugly busy for me, but I really loved going around and signing and talking books when the opportunity arose (like with you), so I'll make a point of it. Thanks for adding me and for all the kind words!

Best,
Natale
haha, don't worry, we all make embarrassing grammatical slip-ups. Just don't do it in front of your students! :-P It's amazing how fast it all came together; I guess it's just like that sometimes. I remember looking for a job for this summer; I went at it for months and months, and went to more interviews than I could count, and then I did the interview, got a job offer for my current job, and accepted it in one week! Go figure.

I know what you mean about going insane without being able to read; I read barely at all first year of law school, and was utterly miserable. I decided second year that I just needed to read more, even if that meant slacking off a bit, and what do you know, my grades second year were higher than first. Clearly reading leads to being happy, which leads to good grades! Either that or second year really isn't as bad as the first. Let's go with my first hypothesis; it gives us both an excuse to slack off and read.
I just started reading Sherrilyn Kenyon. I think now I have read 2 by her and I enjoy them. I'd love to hear more about her book signing at your store when you know more!

Do you have any particular recommendations by Kenyon? Or other vampire fiction? I'm always looking for something new!
I just saw your question to me in the Romance group. I live in Vienna. Where are you in NOVA?
I saw your comment in the YA comments that you had just read Life as we Knew It. I read and reviewed the book before it was released and loved it. Just wanted to let you know that she has written a sequel to the book from a Boy in another part of the country experiencing the same event in journal form as well. I am anxious to read it as well. If you liked that book, you may like How we Live Now. by Meg Rosoff
Thanks :-) I like yours too, muy romatico!
I saw your comment on KPlaytpus blog about Chronicles of Narnia and wow we think a lot a like. I really like the way you think and am checking out your library.
Sorry I'm responding to your comment so late -- LibraryThing hasn't been sending me my comments in email lately for some reason.

Anyway, my username is a Welsh name that means "white snow". I ran across it in a book years and years ago, liked the way it looks and sounds, and have been using it ever since!

I like your username, too -- the goddess of childbirth, yes?
"I could do such a better job teaching kids to love books" -- then yes, you need to teach! More accurately, the students need you to teach...
What you said reminds of me of what I think when reading the "I was forced to read Stienbeck..." threads: don't blame the classics, it ain't the books, it's the teachers! Although people can have opinions and dislike certain books/authors, there has to be an explanation for why people dread the literature they read in high school (maybe it's just reading while on massive surges of hormones scars one for life...)
I saw your note on legxleg's post about reading YA and becoming a teacher -- very cool, I resemble that remark! Are you keeping a list of recommendable books? I'll prob teach elementary, but still want to keep in touch with the YA lit for more advanced readers (and my sons)...

I love Moonlight and Mick is so fine!!! I will not be reading when that show is on. I DVR the show so I can rewind during his sultry glances. Can I get his pic for my website?
I loved your Suddenly You review! I can totally identify with your damning your day job. I'm currently reading It Happened One Autumn and really wish I could be reading that instead of working (of course, I'm not really working if I'm on LibraryThing am I? Better log off and get back to what I should be doing)
I haven't heard of Moonlight. What is it about?
Hi! I was pleasantly surprised when you put my catalog as a "library of interest." I hadn't even known that was offered by LT! I see we only share 50 books, even though it appears we have much the same taste in reading, but part of the reason for that is I haven't been purchasing books too much over the past 20 years or so. Money was tight, and I decided to pay the mortgage and buy food for my daughter instead of buying books. I know, what was I thinking? My only excuse is I was a victim of mother-love. lol
Wow! I just noticed that we now share 136 books!!
I've seen Here There Be Dragons around at different bookstores. It stuck out to me because the author was posting over on myspace for a bit after the book first came out. I wasn't sure if it looked good or not, but with your recommendation I have moved it into my wishlist :-)
So what did you think of Sherrilyn Kenyon? I picked up her new book yesterday but probably won't start it until next week.
You'll have to tell me all about the Kenyon signing!! Thanks so much for telling me about the Dresden files on DVD. I'm off to check them out on amazon.com. My birthday is coming up and I'll have to drop some hints to my family :-)
Hi, Christy! Thanks for your terrific review of Let's Misbehave at www.betterthanchocolatebookco.com. I really appreciate it. I'm SO glad you liked the story!

Lisa :)
Hi :-) Thanks for the recommendation! I've added it to my amazon wishlist.
Hi, Ilithyia! Thanks for being my LibraryThing friend. You have some great books on your shelf. Have a fun week!

Lisa :)
I kept meaning to drop by and thank you for recommending The Black Tattoo. I wound up taking an impromptu trip with the kids and spaced doing it before! It was pretty interesting. Feel free to make more suggestions :-)
I've not heard of the Thomas Locke books, but will have to check them out. We have a wide online library catalog system so even if books are out of print I'm usually able to find them.

I hope you enjoy Tinker! I really liked both that one and the sequel, Wolf Who Rules. Any sort of urban fantasy with fairies is right up my alley :-)
Thanks for writing a note on my Reading Challenge list. Sometimes I forget it's public and other people may be reading it:)

I appreciate your enjoyment of the Merry books, and perhaps you're right in that had I begun and the beginning I'd be well versed in the style. And I concur, the details, the description and the fantasy world are very well described. It's like a techni-color dream spell in words. And yes, I will admit, the sex scenes are amazing and I do remember a brief sentence describing Merry's lineage from fertility gods, so I can see that sex it a major source of magick power for her.

I suppose I was so fascinated with what would happen at the Goblin Court and the Seelie Court that when I realized, too late, they weren't going to be included in this book, I felt somewhat let down; I like series but I'm not used to storylines being introduced but not concluded within a novel. But I haven't read much fantasy or romance and maybe I'm not acclimated to the style yet.

Thanks for adding your opinion and saying hi! I'll have to see if you're doing a book challenge and see what you're reading. :)
Thanks a bunch for stopping by my 50 Book Challenge list. I love it when people do that! I'm looking forward to reading Storm Front. I was so mad, I went to Borders and they had a deal where you bought one Dresden book and you could get the other half off, but they were out of Storm Front. It didn't make sense to buy any of the others without reading the first one first. I will definitely have to pick it up soon! I wanted to watch the show too, but I never get access to the TV. Maybe the first season will be out on DVD soon.
