Really though, I prefer historical fiction, certain styles of fantasy, and adventure/expedition type fiction. I also enjoy reading fiction that deals with Canadian places and issues. I'm a huge supporter of the library and rarely ever buy books. GroupsAudiobooks, Canadian Literature, FantasyFans, Historical Fiction, Reading Globally, Reading Globally II, What Are You Reading Now? I noticed that you wondered about The Purchase by Linda Spalding. Personally I really enjoyed it!Unfortunately I did not write a review on it when I read it. It is a very sad story and it seems that what could go wrong, did go wrong. Essentially it's the story of a Quaker man, who loses his young wife during childbirth. The couple already have several young children and he hires a young girl of about 14 to help look after his young children after the loss of his wife. Very quickly he and his children are driven out of their Quaker community and all of a sudden Daniel is left with his children , the girl he hired to try to make it in the wilderness however he can. Daniel tries to maintain his Quaker morals, including being anti slavery -but his purchase is that of black slave . Things kind of go from bad to worse. Personally I really enjoyed it.
I see that you enjoyed OUR DAILY BREAD - I did too - very much! The books are very dissimilar, but perhaps both of us don't mind a dark read?
