About meI'm a cultural historian, writer, and sometime dance critic who does American historical (and some other) research for a major federal cultural institution. I also have a deep interest in the natural world and its relationship to the human imagination; and in my faith tradition, Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

About my libraryCataloging my books on LibraryThing is a slow, if immensely enjoyable, work-in-progress. At the moment the cataloged books are little more than a limited and arbitrary sampling, based on what was nearest my laptop at any given time, together with (some) recent purchases. I hope that concentrated effort during some long weekends will enable me to accelerate toward a perpetual 99% completion rate within the next year (2009).

I am looking forward to meeting you. I don't know how soon you will come, but I suggest you avoid the first weekend in September, for we have a bishop coming then and things would be too busy for us to talk much.
A little bird has told me that, among other things, you work at the LOC. If you come to St. John's, be sure to say hi the deacon named John.

It was your advocacy for the Icon and Book Service that drew my attention initially.
Forgive me, but you wouldn't happen to pray at St. John the Baptist, would you?
