About meI live in Gloucester, Massachusetts, America's oldest seaport, where fishing regulations, the health of the ocean, and the natural beauty of the world are the daily topics of wonder and concern. I am the author of the novel Addled, a social satire that intertwines animal rights with the politics of food. My essays, articles, and short fiction have appeared in a wide variety of literary journals and national publications, and am a regular contributor to the Boston Globe Magazine. My novel, Float, released by Ashland Creek, a press that specializes in environmental literature, swirls around bankruptcy, jellyfish, conceptual art, and plastics in the ocean.

About my libraryMy tastes run to literary novels, and am a big fan of the short story. I love Maugham, Cheever, Updike, George Saunders and Alice Munro for those. My favorite food essayist is MFK Fisher. Novelists I worship are Jeanette Winterson, Nathaniel West and Shirley Jackson, with George Orwell and Joan Didion for non-fiction.
