About meJohn Pipkin is the author of the forthcoming historical novel "Woodsburner," which springs from an event in the life of Henry David Thoreau. On April 30, 1844, a year before he built his cabin on Walden Pond, Thoreau accidentally started a forest fire that destroyed three hundred acres of the Concord woods—an event that altered the landscape of American thought in a single day.
In "Woodsburner," Thoreau's path intersects with three very different local citizens, each of whom also harbors a secret dream. Their lives, like Thoreau’s, is changed forever by the fire.

John currently lives with his wife and son in Austin, Texas, where he has worked in educational publishing and has served as the Executive Director of the Writers' League of Texas, a non-profit literary arts organization. He has taught literature and writing at St. Louis University, Boston University, and Southwestern University. Originally from Baltimore, he has also lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Missouri.

Mr.Pipkin,

It was a pleasure to meet you personally at the Garcia library. I thoroughly enjoyed "Woodsburner" and said so in my review. You have great talent, I was so impressed. Besides Henry David, I loved the characters of Anezka and Zalenka (what unforgettable subtle hints they give about their deep understanding of the world as it is), as well as Oddmund and Emma. I sympathized a lot with Eliot. What I wanted to know - are all these characters, surrounding Thoreau, completely fictional or composed from real people? (Edward, probably, was real, but how about the others?)

Sincerely,
Clara53
