Re: Aces High and Richard Bong FYI
I live in Duluth, MN, across from Superior, Wisconsin where there is the Richard Bong Memorial Museum. His father was a farmer and bought a Caterpillar tractor to plow the fields. When young Richard got to the end of the field and had to turn, he had to manipulate a number of levers etc. to make a fast turn. This is how he learned to quickly maneuver his plane and helped him become the ace he was. That tractor or a similar one is on display in the museum and tells his story. The military pulled him from active duty and used him for publicity. Unfortunately, when he left the Air Force he tested new aircraft and was killed in a crash at the young age of 26.
