About me How y'all doing???
I am Ken and I live in the Columbia, South Carolina area. I am married with 2 children, and work in the computer programming industry for a health insurance company. I also have a part-time position as a church organist for a local Presbyterian Church.
My main hobby is reading, as well as music. I also enjoy collecting signed modern first editions.
The picture on my profile is one taken back in 1995 when I had the fortune of meeting one of my favorite authors, Helene Hanff. She was very cordial and kind to allow me to spend approximately an hour visiting her while on a long weekend trip to NYC.

The World According to Garp was my first Irving read, I've been hooked ever since! I'm also pretty crazy about Catch 22, I've read it many times. Have you read A Confederacy of Dunces? I'm halfway through but stalled for a bit. I usually read several books at once, bouncing back and forth. Must be ADD.

The Stained glass is by Tiffany, I think called Mermaid, the original hangs in the Field Museum in Chicago in the gem room. I find it mesmerizing. The Chicago Cultural Center has the largest Tiffany piece in the world, a domed ceiling that also mesmerizes me!
Thanks for the comment with more details on Helene - she is so tiny! I laughed at your remark about feeling kindof goofy about the reviews - me too! At first, I didn't realize they were public, and some were very eloquent, like Ugh. Or Yuk. But then I became an early reviewer and got really full of myself. I've read enough reviews now to understand that it is an art form and a calling as a profession, but I amuse myself on LT by continuing to write them, and the older I get, the more I need to refer to them to remember why I liked a book or what it was about!
Incidentally, John Irving is one of my very favorite authors too. A Prayer for Owen Meany was a revelation. I'm going to have to check out your other favorites as I am not familiar with them all. I hope you don't mind me adding you as an interesting library!
Your review of The Geurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Society was exactly what I would have written - especially reminiscent of 84 Charring Cross Road - one of my very favorite and most loved books. I am in awe of your photo with Helene Hanff, and pleased to learn that she was so nice in person. Happy reading, and on to the next good book!

Should I refrain from labelling "The Night Climbers" a shaggy-dog story? I've noticed laudatory reviews, and did stay interested, but at the end I wondered if I should have realized what was coming!!
How lucky to have met Helene Hanff! (I think everybody who reads her books would envy you.) I come to you because you are 1 of 4 with "The Night Climbers." ~~~~Incidentally the group your name was in (50 bk challenge or some similar title is "dormant" so you might want to look at some active groups if you want to be involved in LibraryThing.)
