About my libraryThe only way to describe it is eclectic. Come in and browse around. You might find anything from the latest bestseller to your heart's desire. You might even find a few surprises. It is my cat Henry's favorite room in the house. Mine too. No wonder we get along so well!

I thought that I would add a little about my rating system for anyone who might be interested.

5 stars = I loved it/would read it again
4 stars = I really liked it/might read it again
3 stars = I liked it/probably won't get a reread though
2 stars = I didn't like it/very unlikely for a reread
1 star = I hated it/give it away to a good home

My library is always open to visitors, and so of course, you are welcome to visit anytime! Thank you for being envious, and take solace in the fact that I, as well, envy others, so there really isn't ever an end to the envy.
Thank you for your comment about our profile pic. It was taken with our old Canon point & shoot during the full moon in the Bahamas last year.

Yeah I know what you mean about the writing, but consider the time. For a women to even smoke a cigarett was wild behavior. They were Victorian in more ways than one and I just consider that as ancient history, these days I think I'm being wild if I drink more than one beer.I still think it would have made a better movie than the one they made. Recently I read the new Frankenstein by Dean Kootz, all three books and it was a real kick. I'm still not sure Kootz is from this planet.Later,S
Hello,
and thanks for adding me to you list of 'Interesting Libraries'. It has taken many years to collect, but has been a labour of love as they say. I'm pleased that you find it worth looking through.
I like the picture that heads your Profile page and also the comment there about your cat Henry.
Very best wishes from the English Midlands.
Thanks, Velma, I appreciate the kind words about the review. Knowing that they are useful/enjoyable to people helps inspire me to write more reviews.

Best,
Andrew
You're right about Dracula, easy to read but it reminds me of Sherlock Holmes stories. The book list is huge but a few are Where Angels fear to thread by E.M Forester and The Autumn of the Patriarch by Gabriel Marquez and an interesting book published in 1947 called Proud Destiny by Lion Feuchtwanger, how's that for a name? At that time,he already had 18 books published so I'll be interested to see what his style is like. There's over 200 books in the pile so it may take me awhile to get a handle on it. In the meantime,I keep reading and wishing they had made the movie more like the book. I never could figure out where Van Helsing came from and now I know. Later, S
Well that's just really weird,I too am reading Dracula, spooky man,I was cleaning up the barn for an upcoming project and came across three boxes of books that are collections from old roommates and me from an earlier life and in that found Stokers Dracula and an original paperback of War of the Worlds, original price: 50 cents! Anyway, yes,Dracula is amazing,I can't remember if I had read it before but I don't think so.Needless to say I won't be buying any books for awhile unless Barnes and Nobles calls and blames the recession on me.Later,S
Hey Velma, someone's been in my library, and someone's been eating my porridge, and that someone is just right,(chuckle) I hope you are well and reading up a storm. I just raced through 3 quickies and will be on the prowl for something new. Belva's had a run of bad luck, her niece was in a horrible car wreck and has much recovery to do but she's holding her own. You might drop by and give her a word of encouragement.Take care, S
Thanks for including my library in your list of interesing one. We share quite a few books. I look forward to a browse through your titles.
LOL Thanks Kirconnell, Now I just need more shelving. Someday I'll be able to have everything in one lovely room. /sigh/ :)

I see you have a Ruth Downie Medicus novel, I have the first one, or at least I think it's the first one. I'd read a review awhile back and it looked as though it was historically accurate, and your review confirms that.
Good reviews btw.
Howdy Miss V, I've been suffering from lbs(lousy book syndrome),no,not really, but sort of. Last time I came back from the Crusades I launched into a pile that my neighbor left me and the only one that emerged as a keeper was the Poisonwood Bible,I consider it a masterpiece despite the reviewers take on it. I went to the fort at Goliad one time and the feeling there was so bad,I left as soon as possible. The Mexican army waited til the Texans surrendered then executed every one of them, it still feels creepy even now. Well it's late, it was nice to hear from you,S
Anytime, Velma.
Thank you for taking an interest in my little library. I am happy you found something worth your while. The Mitford sisters are fascinating to me. I haven't read much on them yet, but have several books about them that I want to read. I have been doing too much shopping and not enough reading, if you know what I mean. Kind of like my "plate being bigger than my tummy" sort of thing.
Thank you for coming by. I appreciate it.
You take care and I will see you on the threads.
hugs,
belva
Hey...You may not remember me but I had to leave you a message thanking you for recommending a book. I had mentioned in the new year that I read Marley and Me. You told me that I would probably enjoy All My Patients Are Under The Bed. Funny thing is. I recently moved and started cataloging my books on LT. While going through my books I found that I already had a copy of this book that you had recommended. How lucky is that? I just started it but really enjoying it. Thanks a million.

Not sure if you have checked out my thread...

Would love to hear from you.
Yikes! All the more reason to stay in ac
Hey Velma, Hadn't heard from you in awhile so thought I'd do a driveby Howdy, Howdy! Just another trip down to Houston and driving through those tall pines made me think of you, ever read the Relgion yet? I still Tim Willocks is one the best I've read but he's apparently too busy in real life to write much. Me too actually, anyway I hope this finds doing well and reading much, Slim
Hi, Velma!
Thanks so much for the recommendation of books in Spanish. Yes, my daughter is always looking for some good titles. And she has recently started working at the Latin American Library on campus at school, so she has great access to books in Spanish. Right now she is studying in Spain, so maybe she can find some while she is there.
I am sorry that I took so long to write back. I have been out of town. But as fun as it is to travel, it is also fun to return to my own bed!! Thanks again so much for the recommendation. Have a great day!

Oh good, glad Garden Spells arrived. I meant to send you a message to let you know I'd sent it media mail w/out a note or card. I hope you enjoy it, I'll be interested to hear your take on it.

I hope the storm doesn't cause damage for you; glad to hear you're inland away from the worst of it. I'm concerned - sounds like we might lose another city, Galveston. I have a sister in Houston, she's a ways north and hunkered down, we're keeping in touch.

Best of everything -
Terri
You said that perfectly. One can never have too many friends or too many books. Looking forward to keeping in touch.
Thank you so much for the warm welcome. So often you go to a new site and you feel out of the loop. It isn't like that here. I am only sorry that I didn't come across it earlier. I don't even remember how I found this place but boy I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Velma, That I, unknowingly, was the one to provide you with the artist and name of a painting that you so obviously love, really made my day. And yes, you are right; I do like art, history, mysteries, hiking and, don't forget, science.

John
btw, the photo on my profile page now is part of a wonderful collection called Ashes and Snow; some very powerful images on the site. I've linked to it a little farther down my profile page.

Hope your week is going well!
Oh yes, that's it. Wonderful stuff. I'll have to spend some hours poring over that art. Thanks so much!
Oh! I forgot to say that I really like the fact that the 77 books we share form an eclectic collection by themselves. I often see that the books I share with another library are all on one subject, and I find that boring.

Cheers
John
Thank you in return. Great minds think alike. :-) I even see that you have a Gonsalves painting (Sunset Sails) as your avatar. I uses a few of his as part of my screensaver.

Cheers.
John
Hi again! Thanks very much for reading The Matchmaker. I'm so glad you liked the story.

Have a great week!

Lisa :)
Yes I saw that Kinsella had been picked for me. I'll have to get it from the library now before it closes for renovation!

I was not sure if it was ok to put two books in the post for GRTB. I know you wanted Mathew Reilly but I couldnt see it on your list. I was kinda hoping someone would pick rollins for me to so I would have my excuse to pick it up before the other books I have to read LOL. Your TBR pile though was huge! makes mine of about 10 books look really sad.

Cheers
Casp
Hi Velma! Thanks for being my LibraryThing friend. It's nice to meet you. We have some great books in common!

Lisa :)
Well I took a crack at GRTB and coincidentally I got you! Hopefully I did it right. Which Mathew Reilly book did you get? The only ones of his I haven't read are the ones on my librarything marked TBR and Ice Station which is the very first of his Shane Schofield series which is strange I know but I though originally it was a standalone book like Temple and I could read it when ever but then realised while reading Area 7 I had missed something. Lucky it was only one book and it didn't make a big difference. Keith has read all of them and loves them.

Cheers

Hi Velma -- I'd be happy to send along my copy of Garden Spells. I bought it cheap at Goodwill (thank goodness). You may feel very different about it than I did - it sure got rave reviews on LT! I had just finished one of the best books of the year, so the bar was set pretty high.

Anyway, if you'd like me to mail it, leave me a private message with your address, I'll pop it off to you sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for the invite. I'm truly impressed by your personal library numbers. I thought I was a book fanatic, but I don't hold a candle to you. Here's to a long book friendship.
Hi Kirconnell

Glad to hear your mum is out of hospital now. I still havent worked out GRTB just yet and to be honest I have been far to busy planning my holiday. Its getting close now only 3 weeks to go and this time in 3 weeks I will be in Singapore!

Anyway back to GRTB do I have to pick the last person posted or can I just say "Kirconnell I choose you?"?

Ok gonna scurry off to bed so I can read The Tower which has gotten really interesting :)

Cheers
Casp
You're dead-on with the picture guess - it's in the Great White Desert in central Egypt. Definitely the most desolate and probably the most beautiful place I've ever been; if you find yourself in the area, I can recommend some Bedouin guides!

Anyhow, enjoy reading, I'm looking forward to the review.
Thanks! He is a sweet, furry thing.
Add away, kirconnell - I certainly don't mind. My wishlist has gotten E-NORMOUS since joining LT - and I love it. And thank you for the welcome to the Go Review That Book! group. I only stumbled upon it this last Thursday and knew when I realized what it was all about that I had to be part of it. I really like giving the control over some of my choices to someone else and then having to write a review. It makes me feel more disciplined - something I could use more of. Now I must go and post an ER review, add you to my interesting libraries (ok?) and then - start the book carlym picked out for me.
Tea and cookies sound wonderful, thanks! I see you're making the most of LT since you joined - that's an impressive bit of cataloging since May!

Yes, do let me know if you find out whose art it is. It reminds me a bit of this: http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpapers/ - there are pages and pages of his artwork, I love lots of it.

Enjoy your weekend!
Terri
The picture on your profile page is amazing! Whose art is it?
i'm a history fan, too. will definitely have to browse around ur library soon... :-)
Wow, you've got quite a varied library. You (and your cat) have pretty good taste!
Have you ever read DEVIL IN VELVET by John Dickson Carr? It's a terrific historical romance/mystery.
It looks like you love history as much as I do. I adore Mary Renault! When I read her books I feel as if I am in ancient Greece. I enjoy the Kate Shugak books as well. Thanks for the welcome!
