Hi, you had asked on the "What Are you Reading Now" thread from....back in October?...how I liked Furies of Calderon....I just now got back to the thread, and thought I'd respond!

I think you're right, it is a bit too formulaic. I picked it up because I loved the Dresden books, but this is just not the same quality. Or perhaps it's just that it's not as original an idea as the Dresden books, I think the writing is about the same.

Anyway....sorry for the late response!

A great book. I actually did the same thing as you, and regretted it when I picked it back up. Simmons, if you've ever read anything else by him, pulls different elements together seemlessly. First it's a fictional retelling of the Franklin Expedition, then it's a horror story, and suddenly it's both. I'd definately suggest reading it.
