Hi Law - thanks I already have Coplan's book and have enjoyed it although I have picked up one or two small errors in it! He mentions my late brother Chris in it and has made a mistake about his band The Blue Notes which was a sextet and not a big band and Pondo Blues was a composition by Eric Nomvete who did win with this composition in 1962 I believe. Also the caption to plate 31 says the BLue Notes on a visit to Britain - they had actually settled there in 1965! But from the sub-title you mention maybe the copy you have is of a later edition in which these things might have been corrected. The edition I have is the 1985 Ravan Press edition. By the way, if you could put me in touch with David Coplan I would be grateful. I am researching south african jazz and am sure he would be able to assist me in my researches.
All the best - Tony
